the refund of it also only is from the rego side, the ctp side isn't refunded at all That's not correct, in Queensland you receive a pro rata refund of the CTP premium (I know this is different in New South Wales and possibly other states as well). I just cancelled the registration on one of my cars that is destined for life as a track hack and an admin fee was deducted, about $40 from memory. Also I believe that only the registration and CTP components are refunded, other minor duties and charges that are incurred when registering a car are not refundable upon cancellation. I don't own a 4 cylinder so I wouldn't know the exact amount but if it was $350 for instance I'd expect something in the order of $280 to be refunded. |

be handed back in our plates and were refiunded for 5months worth which came to be just under $150, CTP we were advised is only refunded if initial purchase of it does not go ahead when its bought to have vehicle moved original in the attempt of gaining a rwc. You were advised incorrectly, I'll dig up the relevant legislation tomorrow but will quote the DOT website for the time being: QUOTE If you are cancelling vehicle or motorbike registration, the Department of Transport and Main Roads will, on behalf of your compulsory third party (CTP) insurer, include a refund of the remainder of your compulsory third party insurer's premium with the registration refund.

Same with my rego but I had just over 4 months remaining and got sometime like $149.50 or something like that.....I read in the paper a while back some pensioner lady tried canceling her rego the day after it was paid and she got like $100 less then what she paid a day earlier |

I had mine cancelled from when my xr8 was reported stolen and it was cancelled 2 weeks later and it had 8 weeks out of the 6 months and I got $265 back and it cost nearly $500 for 6 months so I think I did well out of it |

For shits and giggles I just did an online quote for a 4 cylinder, if the registration was renewed for 6 months and cancelled later the same day a refund of $286.80 will be issued (total of registration fee and CTP less traffic improvement fee, surcharge and administrative fee). The admin fee is only $14.70 so I was a bit off with that guess lol. |
