Does anyone know what requirements are there, if any, to transfer registered ownership from one family member to another? Is the usual roadworthy certificate and all that crap still necessary (as when you legally sell a car) or can it be done with just a completion of a form at QLD Transport and possibly pay a small fee? The transfer does not involve any third party - it is simply a change of ownership from one family member to another. The car is still to be kept within the family. Hope someone who might have done this before or knows some info about how QLD Transport handles this can help.

Um...if its from a spuse to another spose or a parent to a child u dont have to pay a fee but u still need a road worthy....i dont think it counts the same if its a brother sister swap....if u get the rego change papers its all there on the back or u can just call qld transport thumbsup.gif

It will be exactly like transferring the vehicle to another owner, rwc/safety certificate and all the valid forms are needed to be filled in with qld transport. Do not know what they would do with stamp duty if the car is a "gift" since its staying in the family.

they use "market value"... There's no savings when it comes to Qld Transport!!

get a change of registration form it outlines the whole thing. if its from family member to family member/deceased estate etc you dont have to pay stamp duty, you do though need a safety cert etc. but yeah the whole thing explaining it is on the papers, which you can download from transport.qld.gov.au as well
