Awesome power boost. I've only just finished putting a t3/t4 turbo on my hilux(4x4). It needs a aftermarket computer. But is absoluty insane on the road. And loves it when I feed it boost. Can't wait to see more of these conversions on the road. drool.gif

hows it running with the factory comp? I had the problem of it stalling all the time when backing off, mainly when pulling up at the lights etc. dunno.gif the air flo censor couldnt work out what the hell was going on, put an after market comp on and it's sweet now.

and guys i searched this forum looking for 3RZ Turbos before i posted and couldnt find squat, so thanks for the link hi_lux

ive got a 2x4 98 model dually the turbo gear goes on this weekend been buyin bits and pieces for a few weeks now ive got everything should be fun.

r u pullin 236 with an unopened engine?

if it was me id be cc'ing the combustion chambers a bit to try lower the compression a tad 236hp is a massive step up from standard haha

any problems with gearboxs yet?

my m8 just bought the black one out of zoom mag a year or 2 ago.. 11.7 sec quarter with a std bottm end only engine mods were metal gasket , cc'd combustion chambers and head work

the rest was bolt on and the turbo isnt a real monster. being in a hilux has 0 traction the car runs 15/295's on the rear and still fries the arse out of them in 2nd no probs

Yes this an unopened engine, I am not going to touch it until i have to, but i have thought about decompressing it with a copper or steel gasket.
IT runs boost control on the dash (twist a knob) bottom setting is around 8 PSI and max is set at around 13 PSI and at the moment there is no virtually no lag it comes on strong from 2000RPM.
Brad where did u get your manifold?
and whos doing the job?
and no i havent had any gearbox trouble yet (touch wood). When i started looking into this about 2 years ago or more i couldnt find anyone worth mentioning that had done one so i started my own, it just took a lot of time because i'm a bit of a slacko, and other stuff kept coming up, now it looks to be one of the more popular mods, there were no manifolds around thats why i made my own.
I'd love to have one of these in a 2 wheeler!!!
Good luck with yours and keep us posted. thumbsup.gif

um i bought the manifold from a guy who upgraded to a stainless one. me and a mate are doing it over the weekend a whole sheet metal factory on hand so we'll knock it over piece of piss..

yer it seem to be around 150rwhp on 8psi is the go with a std ecu, all ive seen with 150rwhp are 2 but both 4x4 dont know weather the 4x4 transfer case would suck any power but the ecu is only there until my aftermarket one arrives.. \

keep me posted with any mods and power gains, im interestd to know not alot of thse round, and if therer around there not to be found

Where did he get his stainless manifold? how much? what did you pay for his old one and where did he get it if you dont mind me asking? ther dosent seem to be to many around, thats why i made mine in the end.

Toyota 3RZ, how good are they!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep that’s right, good old trusty hilux donk

I had not heard of these engines up until recently, but when you break it down they are a perfect recipe for HP. 4 cyl, square bore, 2.7 litre, double overhead cam, 4 valve / cyl. Cast iron block, alloy head, 16v!

ARE here in Brisbane decided to build one to showcase their new dry ice intercooler setups with awesome results.

744hp @ a dyno day a few weeks back (30psi)

785hp during a testing tune.

How long until we start seeing these things everywhere (drag car's tough street cars.... gulp, lo-lux's).

More pics and specs found at -> http://are.com.au/Big%20HP/grunter.htm

I must also congratulate ARE for a fantastically finished engine bay / setup that performs as good as it looks.

What do you guys mean by getting the combustion chambers CC'd?

All CCing is is a measurement of the volume of the combustion chamber to work out the Compression ratio.

i.e Comp. Ratio = Swept Volume : Combustion Chamber

Or is there some thing I'm missing?

The 3RZ is a tough ass motor any ways, built a few of them at work.

I think there talking about opening up the combustion chamber? same as adding a spacer to lower compression, but i'm just guessing.

It was a while ago but from memory,

- gt28 $1100
- 3" exhaust $450
- Fuel pump and injectors $2000 that was fitted and tuned on the Dyno with some other bits as well
- LINK about $800 I think plus fitting and tuning on top
did lots myself, all the fitting except the elec and stuff listed above
made all pipe work and manifold in my shed at home.
these are approx prices from a clouded memory

cc ing the combustion chamber is when you grind a little metal out of the head around the valve faces etc. This gives lower compression as you have increased the volume of the combustion area(basically the air fuel mix does not get suashed as much). For all you 3rz fiends checkout www.lcengineering.com,These guys have as many aftermarket bits for 3rz and 22re as just jap do for sr 20s. They are American but not too exspensive. They f@$kin love these donks in usa and im sure oz will get swept up in the craze soon .

CC'ing the combustion chamber is when you match the combustion chamber volumes from cylinder to cylinder, i thought. It has nothing to do with raising compression, as far as i know. I'll stand corrected if i'm wrong though.

I know this is an old thread but can anyone recommend bigger injectors for the 2.7.
I'm currently turbocharging my 3RZ.
I have a set of 1UZFE injectors but Im not sure if they will do the job.

Any help or advice is appreciated.
