Since the standard ca18det injectors
max out and underfuel after more than 12 psi nearing redline, it was decided
it would definately be a good idea to upgrade the injectors!
The cheapest and quickest solution I found was a set of four 440cc injectors
from a mates rb26dett powered skyline.. one of his injectors were leaking so
I guess he wasn't able to sell them as a set of six anyway (6 cylinders so 6
injectors in the rb26.. annnnyway)..
There are two main bolts to undo to get the fuel rail off, which are easy as
pie, but there's one in a real bitch of a spot near the fuel regulator that
made things a bit tricky.. I used a socket and a long extension on it and
placing it up through various pipes with alot of screwing around to get the
little nut off to get the fuel rail off..
Here's the new injectors.. (well, second hand, but new to me!)
I tried to take a close up to compare the size difference of the nozzle
hole.. its noticeably larger in the newer injector on the ... right(?) but
this photo doesn't really demonstrate it and is a waste of time I guess..
I got a few breather hoses and stuff outta the way, and removed the whole
idle control assembly bit in the middle to make alot of room.. the brackets
between the engine and intake manifold would be handy to be removed as well
to get more throw on the spanner.. you won't be able to get a socket in
there :)
The spot marked in green, just under there, there's that 3rd bolt/nut that
you need to get out.. without it, you won't get the ful rail off enuf to get
the injectors out..
And a shot with no injectors at all..you will notice I still have the fuel
rail in there, I simply got it outta the way to get the injectors out and
in.. if I was to get the fuel rail out completely for whatever reason, I'd
have to undo the fuel lines etc etc.. bugger that when ya can make do with
it like this.. there's *just* enuf room to do it.. those engineers at nissan
made this job relatively painless.
The result was the car started straight away to my surprise.. now to
adjusting the ecu to suit though.
