ture. If there is a risk of entrapment by the steering column, move the steering wheel adjustment lever or press the position button of the mem- ory function. If there is a risk of entrapment by the seat, you can also cancel the adjustment procedure by moving the switch for seat adjustment. The steering column and driver's seat stop moving immediately. Never leave children unsupervised in the vehi- cle. They could open the driver's door and thereby unintentionally activate the EASY- ENTRY/EXIT feature and become trapped.
You can make a setting in COMAND so that the steering wheel swings upwards and/or the driver's seat moves backwards before you get into the vehicle. You can make the fol- lowing settings: ROff: the function is switched off. RSteering column: the steering wheel swings upwards. RSteering column and seat: the steering wheel swings upwards and the driver’s seat moves backwards.

Exterior light: you can set whether and for how long you want the exterior lighting to remain on in the dark after the doors have been closed. The exterior lighting automati- cally switches off after the switch-off delay has elapsed. You may select from the following settings: R0 seconds: delayed switch-off is deactiva-
ted.
R15, 30, 45, 60 seconds: delayed switch-off
is activated.
i You can reactivate this function by open- ing a door within one minute. If none of the doors are opened after the key is removed from the ignition lock or if a door is not closed after it has been opened, the exte- rior lights switch off after 60 seconds.

Switching the locator lighting on/off If you switch on the locator lighting, the fol- lowing come on in the dark after you have unlocked the vehicle using the remote con- trol: Rthe side lamps Rthe tail lamps Rthe licence plate lighting Rthe front foglamps Rthe entry lamps in the exterior mirror The locator lighting switches off again if you open the driver’s door. If you do not open the driver’s door, the locator lighting switches off automatically after 40 seconds.

Switching the automatic locking fea- ture on/off You can use this function to activate or deac- tivate the automatic central locking feature. If the automatic locking feature is activated, your vehicle will lock centrally from a speed of approximately 15 km/h.

Automatic climate control Introduction to automatic climate con- trol You can operate automatic climate control using COMAND or the buttons on the upper section of the centre console (Y page 305). Several special automatic climate control functions can only be adjusted using COMAND. You can access the automatic climate control menu via the air-conditioning function bar. To do so, make certain that the key is in posi- tion 2 in the ignition lock.

Rset the Airflow for the air vents Roperate the Rear air conditioning from the front Rset the Auxiliary heating, depar‐ ture time Switching cooling with air dehumidifica- tion on/off Cooling is operational when the engine is run- ning, and cools according to the selected interior temperature for the vehicle. Cooling also dehumidifies the air inside the vehicle and, thereby, prevents the windows from misting up. G WARNING If you deactivate the cooling function with air dehumidification, the vehicle will not be cooled in warm weather and the air will not be dehumidified. The windows could mist up more quickly. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby caus- ing an accident.
i Condensation may collect on the under- side of the vehicle when the cooler is oper- ating.

Controlling climate control centrally You can use the Mono function to set all the air-conditioning zones in the vehicle to the same settings. If the Mono function is
switched on and you adjust climate control on the driver’s side, these changes will also be made in all the air-conditioning zones. X Select the climate control main menu in the
air-conditioning function bar by turning cVd the COMAND controller and press W to confirm. The climate control menu opens. X Select Mono and press W. A tick appears when the function is selec- ted.

rear-compartment control panel Adjusting the footwell temperature You can use the Footwell temperature function to set the temperature difference between the footwell and the rest of the vehi- cle interior. i This setting is quite effective in automatic mode, especially at low outside tempera- tures.

X To confirm your selection: press W. Setting the blower settings for the air vents This function allows you to determine the way the air is blown through the air vents in auto- matic mode. You can select: RFocused (high blower setting) RMedium (standard setting) RDiffuse (low blower setting) i This setting is quite effective in automatic mode, especially at high outside tempera- tures.
If the vehicle has become very warm and the automatic air conditioning is cooling the inte- rior, the blower settings are briefly cancelled. X Select the climate control main menu in the
air-conditioning function bar by turning cVd the COMAND controller and press W to confirm. The climate control menu opens. X Select Airflow and press W. A menu appears. The current setting is indicated by a # dot.

Operating the rear-compartment air-con- ditioning system from the front The rear-compartment air-conditioning sys- tem is operated in the same way as climate control for the driver and front passenger. Setting the departure time for the auxili- ary heating You can use the Auxiliary heating, departure time function to: Renter a departure time at which the vehicle
is preheated by the auxiliary heating
Rselect a time from the three stored depar-
ture times
The auxiliary heating timer function calcu- lates the switch-on time according to the out- side temperature so that the vehicle is pre- heated by the departure time. When the departure time is reached, the auxiliary heat- ing continues to heat for a further five minutes and then switches off. Multicontour seat i Information about the components and operating principles of COMAND can be found on (Y page 117).
The contour of the driver's seat and front- passenger seat backrests can be individually adjusted to provide optimum support for your back. This is achieved by controlling the pres- sure in the air chambers in the multicontour seat. The adjustments are made using the COMAND display. i When you adjust the multicontour seat, you may hear the air being pumped in or released.
You can adjust the following air cushions: Rseat side bolsters Rseat backrest side bolsters Rbackrest curvature in the lumbar region Rbackrest curvature in the upper back
region
X Make sure that the key is in position 2 in
the ignition lock.
X Press the T function button.
Selecting the seat You must first select the seat for which you wish to make adjustments. X Press the T function button.

Display values Two values are displayed on the setting scale if you adjust the multicontour seat: Rred: this is the desired value which you
specify when making the setting.
Rwhite: this is the current value. It is changed gradually until it reaches the desired value.
Adjusting the seat side bolsters This function allows you to adjust the air cushions in the seat side bolsters. X Select the seat (Y page 284). X Select Seat sides by sliding XVY or turn- ing cVd the COMAND controller and press W to confirm. A scale appears.

Massage function (PULSE) The massage function helps you to prevent muscle tension on long journeys. X Select the seat (Y page 284). Uploading/downloading data With this function, you can transfer COMAND data from one system (vehicle) to another system (vehicle). You can use either a USB stick or an SD card as temporary storage. You can only transfer the complete transfer- able data record. The following data is included in the complete transferable data record: Rnavigation destination memory and last

Copying data to a storage medium X Insert an SD card into the SD card slot or X Insert a USB stick into the socket on the side in the glove compartment. X If there is not enough storage capacity, remove the storage medium. Make more storage space available on the storage medium. Then, try to copy the COMAND data to the storage medium again.
X Remove the storage medium.
Transferring data to another system (vehicle) X Insert/connect the storage medium (SD
card or USB stick) with the saved data into/ to the relevant interface. X Select Vehicle in the main function bar by turning cVd the COMAND controller and press W to confirm. The "Vehicle" menu appears. X Select System and press W to confirm. X Select Upload/download data and press W to confirm. X Select Import data from storage medium and press W to confirm. Exterior lighting Important safety notes For reasons of safety, Mercedes-Benz recom- mends that you drive with the lights switched on even during the daytime. In some coun- tries, operation of the headlamps varies due to legal requirements and self-imposed obli- gations.
Notes on driving abroad To convert to symmetrical dipped beam when driving abroad: switch the headlamps to symmetrical dipped beam in countries in which traffic drives on the opposite side of the road to the country where the vehicle is reg- istered. This prevents glare to oncoming traf- fic. When using symmetrical lights, the edge of the carriageway is not lit as widely and as far ahead as normal. Convert the headlamps as close to the border as possible before driving in these countries (Y page 406). Convert to asymmetrical dipped beam after returning: convert the headlamps back to asymmetrical dipped beam as soon as pos- sible after crossing the border when returning (Y page 406).
If the headlamps are converted to symmetri- cal dipped beam, the "motorway mode" and "extended range foglamps" functions (Intelli- gent Light System) are not available.

The exterior lighting (except the side lamps/ parking lamps) switches off automatically if you: Rremove the key from the ignition lock Ropen the driver's door with the key in posi-

driving lights18 or the side lamps and dipped-beam headlamps are switched on or off automatically. When the dipped-beam headlamps are switched on, the T indicator lamp on the light switch lights up. G WARNING If the light switch is set to c, the dipped- beam headlamps will not come on automati- cally if it is foggy. This could endanger you and others. Therefore, turn the light switch to L in fog. The automatic headlamp feature is only an aid. The driver is responsible for the vehicle's lighting at all times. G WARNING When it is dark or foggy, turn the light switch from c to L in good time. Otherwise, the headlamps could switch off temporarily and you could cause an accident.
Foglamps G WARNING If you suspect that driving conditions will be foggy, turn the light switch to L before you start your journey. Your vehicle may other- wise not be visible and you could endanger yourself and others.
X To switch on the foglamps: turn the key in the ignition lock to position 2 or start the engine.
X Turn the light switch to L or T. If the
light switch is set to c, you cannot switch on the foglamps.
If you hear a warning tone when you leave the vehicle, the lights may still be switched on. X Turn the light switch to $ or c. or X If the rear foglamp is switched on: press the
light switch in to the stop.
Dipped-beam headlamps X To switch on the dipped-beam head-
lamps: turn the key in the ignition lock to position 2 or start the engine. X Turn the light switch to L.
The T indicator lamp on the light switch lights up.
X To switch off the dipped-beam head-
lamps: turn the light switch to $.
Daytime driving lights You can activate or deactivate the daytime driving lights function using the on-board computer (Y page 406). X Daytime driving lights: activate the day- time driving lights function using the on- board computer.
X Turn the light switch to $ or c.
When the engine is on: depending on the ambient light conditions, the daytime driv- ing lights or the dipped-beam headlamps are switched on. When the dipped-beam headlamps are switched on, the T indicator lamp on the light switch lights up.
Automatic headlamp mode X To switch on automatic headlamp mode: turn the light switch to c. Key in position 1 in the ignition lock: the side lamps are switched on or off automat- ically depending on the brightness of the ambient light. With the engine running: depending on the brightness of the ambient light, the daytime

X Pull the light switch out to the first detent. The green N indicator lamp on the light switch lights up.
X To switch off the front foglamps: press
the light switch in as far as it will go. The green N indicator lamp on the light switch goes out.
Rear foglamp X To switch on the rear foglamp: turn the key in the ignition lock to position 2 or start the engine.
X Turn the light switch to L or T (vehi- cles with foglamps), or turn the light switch to L (vehicles without foglamps). When the light switch is set to c, you cannot switch on the rear foglamp.
X Pull the light switch out to the second stop (vehicles with foglamps) or pull it out to the stop (vehicles without foglamps). The yellow R indicator lamp on the light switch lights up.
X To switch off the rear foglamp: press the
light switch in as far as it will go. The yellow R indicator lamp on the light switch goes out.
Headlamp cleaning system If the "Wipe with washer fluid" function is operated five times (Y page 299) while the lights are on and the engine is running, the headlamps are cleaned automatically. When you switch off the ignition, the automatic headlamp cleaning system is reset and count- ing is resumed from 0.
Combination switch Turn signals

Hazard warning lamps
Intelligent Light System Important notes The Intelligent Light System is a system that adjusts the headlamps automatically to suit the prevailing driving and weather conditions. It offers advanced functions for improved illu- mination of the road surface, e.g. depending on the vehicle speed or weather conditions. The system includes the active light function, cornering light function, motorway mode and extended range foglamps. The system is only active when it is dark. You can activate or deactivate the "Intelligent Light System" using the on-board computer (Y page 406).
Active light function
The hazard warning lamps automatically switch on if: Ran airbag is deployed. Rthe vehicle decelerates rapidly from a
speed of more than 70 km/h and comes to a standstill.
X To switch on the hazard warning lamps:
press button :. All turn signals flash. If you now switch on a turn signal using the combination switch, only the turn signal lamp on the corre- sponding side of the vehicle will flash. X To switch off the hazard warning
lamps: press button :.
The hazard warning lamps switch off auto- matically if the vehicle reaches a speed of over 10 km/h again after a full brake appli- cation. i The hazard warning lamps still operate if
the ignition is switched off.
The active light function is a system that moves the headlamps according to the steer- ing movements of the front wheels. In this way, relevant areas remain illuminated while driving. This allows you to recognise pedes- trians, cyclists and animals. Active: when the lights are switched on.

Cornering light function
Motorway mode increases the range of the beam. Active: Rif you are driving at speeds above
110 km/h and do not make any large steer- ing movements for 1000 m
Rif you are driving at speeds above
130 km/h
Not active: if you are driving at speeds below 80 km/h following activation.
Extended range foglamps
The cornering light function improves the illu- mination of the road over a wide angle in the direction you are turning, enabling better vis- ibility in tight bends, for example. The corner- ing light function can only be activated when the dipped-beam headlamps are switched on. Active: Rif you are driving at speeds below
40 km/h and switch on the turn signal or turn the steering wheel.
Rif you are driving at speeds between
40 km/h and 70 km/h and turn the steer- ing wheel.
Not active: if you are driving at speeds above 40 km/h or switch off the turn signal or turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead posi- tion. The cornering light function may remain lit for a short time, but is automatically switched off after no more than three minutes.
Motorway mode
The extended range foglamps reduce the glare experienced by the driver and improve the illumination of the edge of the carriage- way. Active: if you are driving at speeds below 70 km/h and you switch on the rear foglamp Not active: if you are driving at speeds above 100 km/h or if you switch off the rear foglamp following activation
Adaptive Highbeam Assist You can use this function to set the head- lamps to change between dipped beam and main beam automatically. The system recog- nises vehicles with their lights on, either approaching from the opposite direction or travelling in front of your vehicle, and conse- quently switches the headlamps from main beam to dipped beam. The system automatically adapts the dipped- beam headlamp range depending on the dis-
tance to the other vehicle. Once the system no longer detects any other vehicles, it reac- tivates the main-beam headlamps. The system's optical sensor is located behind the windscreen near the overhead control panel.
X To activate: activate the Adaptive High- beam Assist function using the on-board computer (Y page 407).
X Turn the light switch to c. X Press the combination switch beyond the
pressure point in the direction of arrow : (Y page 292). If it is dark and the light sensor activates the dipped-beam headlamps, the _ indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up. If you are driving at speeds above 45 km/h: the headlamp range is set automatically depending on the distance between the vehicle and other road users. If you are driving at speeds above 55 km/h and no other road users are rec- ognised:

the main-beam headlamps are switched on automatically. The K indicator lamp in the instrument cluster also lights up. If you are driving at speeds below 45 km/h or other road users are recog- nised or the roads are adequately lit: the main-beam headlamps are switched off automatically. The K indicator lamp in the instrument cluster goes out. The _ indicator lamp in the instrument cluster stays on.
X To deactivate: move the combination
switch back to its normal position. The _ indicator lamp in the instrument cluster goes out. G WARNING Adaptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid designed to assist driving. The driver is responsible for adjusting the vehicle's lighting to the prevailing light, vision and traffic con- ditions. The system may be impaired or deactivated: Rif there is poor visibility, e.g. due to snow,
rain, fog or spray
Rif the area of the windscreen around the

The automatic main-beam headlamps will not be deactivated, or they may be activated despite road users travelling in front of or approaching the vehicle. Thus, you could cause an accident and injure yourself and others. Always observe traffic

conditions and, if necessary, dip the lights manually.
Headlamps misted up on the inside The headlamps may mist up on the inside if there is high atmospheric humidity. X Drive with the headlamps switched on.
The level of moisture diminishes, depend- ing on the length of the journey and the weather conditions (humidity and temper- ature).
If the level of moisture does not diminish: X Have the headlamps checked at a qualified
specialist workshop.

Interior lighting control Important notes In order to prevent the vehicle's battery from discharging, the interior lighting functions are automatically deactivated after some time except for when the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.
Automatic interior lighting control X To switch on/off: press the | button. The OFF indicator lamp shows whether the automatic interior lighting control is deac- tivated (indicator lamp on) or activated (indicator lamp off).
The interior lighting automatically switches on if you: Runlock the vehicle Ropen a door Rremove the key from the ignition lock The interior light is activated for a short while when the key is removed from the ignition lock. You can activate this delayed switch-off using COMAND (Y page 275).

Replacing bulbs Important safety notes Xenon bulbs G DANGER Xenon bulbs are under high voltage. If you touch the electrical contacts of a xenon bulb, you could suffer an electric shock and be seri- ously or even fatally injured. For this reason, do not remove the cover of xenon bulbs. Do not change the xenon bulbs yourself, but have them replaced at a qualified workshop.
If your vehicle is equipped with xenon bulbs, you can recognise this by the following: the cone of light from the xenon bulbs moves from the top to the bottom and back again when you start the engine. For this to be observed, the lights must be switched on before starting the engine. Bulbs and lamps are an important aspect of vehicle safety. You must therefore make sure that these function correctly at all times. Have the headlamp setting checked regularly.
Other bulbs There are bulbs other than the xenon bulbs that you cannot replace. Replace only the bulbs listed (Y page 297). Have the bulbs that you cannot replace yourself changed at a qualified specialist workshop. If you require assistance changing bulbs, con- sult a qualified specialist workshop. Do not touch the glass tube of new bulbs with your bare hands. Even minor contamination

can burn into the glass surface and reduce the service life of the bulbs. Always use a lint- free cloth or only touch the base of the bulb when fitting. Only use bulbs of the correct type. If the new bulb still does not light up, consult a qualified specialist workshop. Bulbs and lamps are an important aspect of vehicle safety. You must therefore make sure that these function correctly at all times. Have the headlamp setting checked regularly. G WARNING Bulbs and lamps can be very hot. You should therefore allow them to cool down before you change them. Otherwise, you could be burned if you touch them. Keep bulbs out of the reach of children. Oth- erwise, they could damage the bulbs, for example, and injure themselves. Never use a bulb which has been dropped. Such a bulb may break or even explode and injure you. Halogen bulbs are pressurised and can explode when you change them, particularly if they are very hot. You should therefore wear eye protection and gloves when you are changing them.

Windscreen wipers Switching the windscreen wipers on/ off G WARNING The windscreen will not longer be wiped prop- erly if the wiper blades are worn. This could prevent you from observing the traffic condi- tions, thereby causing an accident. Replace the wiper blades twice a year, ideally in spring and autumn.
! Do not operate the windscreen wipers when the windscreen is dry, as this could damage the wiper blades. Moreover, dust that has collected on the windscreen can scratch the glass if wiping takes place when the windscreen is dry.
! If the windscreen wipers leave smears on the windscreen after the vehicle has been washed in an automatic car wash, this may be due to wax or other residue. Clean the windscreen with washer fluid after an auto- matic car wash.

! Intermittent wiping with rain sensor: due to optical influences and the windscreen becoming dirty in dry weather conditions, the windscreen wipers may be activated inadvertently. This could damage the wind- screen wiper blades or scratch the wind- screen. For this reason, you should always switch off the windscreen wipers in dry weather. In the Ä or Å position, the appropriate wiping frequency is set automatically accord- ing to the intensity of the rain. In the Å position, the rain sensor is more sensitive than in the Ä position, causing the wind- screen wiper to wipe more frequently.

Replacing the wiper blades Important safety notes G WARNING The wiper arms could start moving and cause an injury if you leave the windscreen wipers switched on. Remove the key from the ignition lock before replacing the wiper blades.
! Never open the bonnet if a windscreen wiper arm has been folded away from the windscreen. Never fold a windscreen wiper arm without a wiper blade back onto the windscreen. Hold the windscreen wiper arm firmly when you change the wiper blade. If you release the windscreen wiper arm without a wiper blade and it falls onto the windscreen, the windscreen may be damaged by the force of the impact. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have the wiper blades replaced by a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a Mercedes- Benz Service Centre.
! To avoid damaging the windscreen wiper blades, make sure that you touch only the wiper arm of the windscreen wiper.
