Vehicle status messages in the multifunction display

Warning and malfunction messages appear in the multifunction display located in the instrument cluster. Certain warning and malfunction messag- es are accompanied by an audible signal. Address these messages accordingly and follow the additional instructions given in this Operator’s Manual. Selecting the vehicle status message memory menu in the control system (컄 page 132) displays both cleared and uncleared messages. High-priority messages appear in the multifunction display in red color.

Certain messages of high priority cannot be cleared from the multifunction display using the reset button (컄 page 24) or button j, k, ÿ, or è on the steering wheel. Other messages of high priority and messages of less immediate priority can be cleared from the multifunction display using the reset button (컄 page 24) or button j, k, ÿ, or è on the steering wheel. These are then stored in the vehicle status message memory (컄 page 132). Remember that clearing a message will only make the message dis- appear. Clearing a message will not cor- rect the condition that caused the message to appear.

Practical hints What to do if …

Warning!

All categories of messages contain important information which should be taken note of and, where a malfunction is indicated, addressed as soon as possible at an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Failure to repair condition noted may cause damage not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty, or result in property damage or personal injury.

Warning!

No messages will be displayed if either the instrument cluster or the multifunction display is inoperative.

Contact your nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Front-pass airbag activated See Operator’s Manual

Possible cause Air bag is activated while driving even though a child, small individual, or object below the system's weight threshold is on the front passenger seat, or the front pas- senger seat is empty. between seat cushion and child seat and check installation of the child seat.

Practical hints Replacing SmartKey batteries

If the batteries in the SmartKey are dis- charged, the vehicle can no longer be locked or unlocked. It is recommended to have the batteries replaced at an autho- rized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Batteries contain materials that can harm the environment if disposed of improperly. Recycling of batteries is the preferred method of disposal. Many states require sellers of batteries to accept old batteries for recycling.

Warning!

Keep the batteries out of reach of children.

If a battery is swallowed, seek medical help immediately.

When inserting the batteries, make sure they are clean and free of lint.

When changing batteries, always replace both batteries. The required replacement batteries are available at any Mercedes-Benz Center.

Practical hints Replacing bulbs

Safe vehicle operation depends on proper exterior lighting and signaling. It is there- fore essential that all bulbs and lamp as- semblies are in good working order at all times. Correct headlamp adjustment is extremely important. Have headlamps checked and readjusted at regular intervals and when a bulb has been replaced. See an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center for headlamp adjustment.

Bulbs

If the headlamps or front fog lamps are fogged up on the inside as a result of high humidity, driving the vehicle a dis- tance with the lights on should clear up the fogging.

Substitute bulbs will be brought into use when lamps malfunction. Observe the messages in the multifunction dis- play (컄 page 366).
