BLUETOOTH PHONE OPERATION (IF EQUIPPED)
CAUTION
If the vehicle is moving do not use a cellular phone or connect the Bluetooth phone.
✽✽ NOTICE Some Bluetooth devices do not offer a perfect compatibility with this system.
■ General Feature (cid:129) This system supports Bluetooth, a wire- less system that allows you to make or receive calls without taking your hands from the steering wheel and using cables to connect the phone to the sys- tem.
(cid:129) The phone must be paired to the system
before using the hands-free feature. Only one linked cellular phone can be used with the system at a time. The sys- tem is available in English, Spanish and French.
Features of your vehicle
■ Voice Recognition Activation (cid:129) The voice recognition engine contained in the Bluetooth System can be activat- ed in the following conditions: - Button Activation
The voice recognition system will be active when the button is pressed and after the sound of a Beep.
- Active Listening
The voice recognition system will be active for a period of time when the Voice Recognition system has asked for a customer response.
(cid:129) The system can recognize single digits from zero to nine while numbers greater than ten will not be recognized.
(cid:129) If the command is not recognized, the system will announce "Pardon" or there will be No input voice signal from micro- phone. (No response)
(cid:129) The system shall cancel voice recogni- tion mode in the following cases : When pressing the button and saying cancel following the beep. When not making a call and pressing the but- ton. When voice recognition has failed 3
consecutive times.(cid:129) At any time if you say "help", the system will announce what commands are available.

■ Receiving a phone call When receiving a phone call, a ring tone is heard and the system changes to tele- phone mode. When receiving a phone call, the phone number and the message "Incoming" will be displayed.
■ Talking on the phone When talking on the phone, the display will differ depending on whether or not the vehicle is in motion. Number and "active call" is displayed. When the call is finished, press the end switch.
(cid:129) Do either one of the following:
Press the send switch to take the call.
(cid:129) To adjust the ring volume, push "+" or "-
" on the steering volume controls. Volume adjustment cannot be made using the audio system.
(cid:129) To transfer a call to the phone:
The received call can be transferred from the hands-free system to the cellu- lar phone that is connected to Bluetooth. For details, please refer to you user's manual for the cellular phone or go to the Key matrix in this manual (next page).
✽✽ NOTICE In the following situations, your voice may not reach the other party: 1. When talking alternately with the other party on the phone. If you talk at the same time, the voice may not reach the other parties. (This is not a malfunction.)
2. When keeping the volume of incom- ing voice to a low level. Otherwise, high volumes may result in an echo. When you talk on the phone, speak clearly towards the microphone.

WARNING - ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the win- dows immediately.
• Do not inhale exhaust fumes.
Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxia- tion.
(cid:129) Be sure the exhaust system does not leak.
The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose. If you hear a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the car, have the exhaust system checked as soon as possible by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
(cid:129) Do not run the engine in an enclosed area.
Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run the engine in your garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the car out.
(cid:129) Avoid idling the engine for prolonged periods with people inside the car.
If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the car, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set at "Fresh" and fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interior.
If you must drive with the trunk lid open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary: 1. Close all windows. 2. Open side vents. 3. Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds.
To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front of the windshield are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

When you intend to park or stop the vehicle with the engine on, be care- ful not to depress the accelerator pedal for a long period of time. It may overheat the engine or exhaust system and cause fire.

E030100AEN Illuminated ignition switch Whenever a front door is opened, the ignition switch will be illuminated for your convenience, provided the ignition switch is not in the ON position. The light will go off immediately when the ignition switch is turned on or go off after about 30 sec- onds when the door is closed.

Always check the surrounding areas near your vehicle for people, especially children, before putting a car into D (Drive) or R (Reverse).
WARNING - Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Drinking and driving is dangerous. Drunk driving is the number one contributor to the highway death toll each year. Even a small amount of alcohol will affect your reflexes, perceptions and judgment. Driving while under the influence of drugs is as dangerous or more dangerous than driving drunk. You are much more likely to have a serious accident if you drink or take drugs and drive. If you are drinking or taking drugs, don’t drive. Do not ride with a driv- er who has been drinking or taking drugs. Choose a designated driver or call a cab.

✽✽ NOTICE If difficulty is experienced in turning the ignition switch to the ACC position, turn the key while turning the steering wheel right and left to release the tension.
E030203AUN ON The warning lights can be checked before the engine is started. This is the normal running position after the engine is started. Do not leave the ignition switch ON if the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.

Ignition switch position E030201AUN LOCK The steering wheel locks to protect against theft. The ignition key can be removed only in the LOCK position. When turning the ignition switch to the LOCK position, push the key inward at the ACC position and turn the key toward the LOCK position.
Driving your vehicle
E030204AUN START Turn the ignition switch to the START position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key; then it returns to the ON position. The brake warning lamp can be checked in this position.

(cid:129) Never turn the ignition switch to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is moving. This would result in loss of directional control and braking function, which could cause an accident.
(cid:129) The anti-theft steering column lock is not a substitute for the parking brake. Before leaving the driver’s seat, always make sure the shift lever is engaged in P (Park) set the parking brake fully and shut the engine off. If the engine stalls while you are in motion,do not attempt to move the shift lever to the P (Park) position.If traffic and road conditions permit, you may put the shift lever in the N (Neutral) position while the vehicle is still moving and turn the ignition switch to the START position in an attempt to restart the engine.
CAUTION
Do not engage the starter for more than 10 seconds.If the engine stalls or fails to start,wait 5 to 10 seconds before re-engaging the starter. Improper use of the starter may damage it.

4. In extremely cold weather (below -18°C / 0°F) or after the vehicle has not been operated for several days, let the engine warm up without depress- ing the accelerator.
Whether the engine is cold or warm, it should be started without depressing the accelerator.

Driving your vehicle
WARNING
You are able to turn off the engine (START) or vehicle power (ON), only when the vehicle is not in motion. In an emergency situation while the vehicle is in motion, you are able to turn the engine off and to the ACC position by pressing the engine start/stop button for more than 2
seconds or 3 times successively within 3 seconds. If the vehicle is still moving, you can restart the engine without depressing the brake pedal by pressing the engine start/stop button with the shift lever in the N (Neutral) position.5 7

E030202ABH-EU ACC(Accessory) Press the engine start/stop button when the button is in the OFF position without depressing the brake pedal. The electrical accessories are operative. If you leave the engine start/stop button in the ACC position for more than 1 hour, the battery power will turn off automati- cally to prevent the battery from dis- charging.
✽✽ NOTICE • If you press the engine start/stop but- ton without depressing the brake pedal, the engine does not start and the engine start/stop button changes as follows : OFF →→ ACC →→ ON →→ OFF
• If you leave the engine start/stop but- ton in the ACC or the ON position for a long time, the battery will be dis- charged.

Whether the engine is cold or warm, it should be started without depressing the accelerator.
CAUTION

(cid:129) Even if the smart key is in the vehicle, if it is far away from you, the engine may not start.
(cid:129) When the engine start/stop button is in the ACC or ON position, if any door is open, the system checks for the smart key. If the smart key is not in the vehi- cle, the warning, "Key is not in vehicle" will come on, and if all doors are closed, the chime will also sound for about 5 seconds. The indicator will turn off while the vehicle is moving. Keep the smart key in the vehicle when using the ACC position or if the vehicle engine is on.

The engine will start by pressing the engine start/stop button, only when the smart key is in the vehi- cle. Never allow children or any per- son who is unfamiliar with the vehi- cle to touch the engine start/stop button or related parts.

CAUTION
(cid:129) Do not press the engine start/stop button for more than 5
seconds except when the stop lamp fuse is disconnected.(cid:129) When you eject the smart key from the smart key holder,press the smart key inward and pull it out.If you pull out the smart key forcibly without pushing the smart key, the smart key holder may be damaged and couldn’t operate normally.

✽✽ NOTICE • If the battery is weak or the smart key does not work correctly, you can start the engine by inserting the smart key into the smart key holder. To eject the smart key from the smart key holder, press the smart key inward passed the detent and then pull the key outward. • When the stop lamp fuse is blown, you can't start the engine normally. Replace the fuse with a new one. If you are not able to replace the fuse, you can start the engine by pressing the engine start/stop button for 10 seconds with the engine start/stop button in the ACC. The engine can start without depressing the brake pedal. But for your safety always depress the brake pedal before starting the engine.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

E060100ABH Automatic transmission operation The automatic transmission has 6 for- ward speeds and one reverse speed. The individual speeds are selected automati- cally, depending on the position of the shift lever.
✽✽ NOTICE The first few shifts on a new vehicle, if the battery has been disconnected, may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normal condition, and the shifting sequence will adjust after shifts are cycled a few times by the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

For smooth operation, depress the brake pedal when shifting from N (Neutral) to a forward or reverse gear.
WARNING - Automatic
transmission
(cid:129) Always check the surrounding areas near your vehicle for peo- ple, especially children, before shifting a car into D (Drive) or R (Reverse).
(cid:129) Before leaving the driver’s seat, always make sure the shift lever is in the P (Park) position; then set the parking brake fully and shut the engine off. Unexpected and sudden vehicle movement can occur if these precautions are not followed in the order iden- tified.
CAUTION
(cid:129) To avoid damage to your trans- mission, do not accelerate the engine in R (Reverse) or any for- ward gear position with the brakes on.
(cid:129) When stopped on an incline, do not hold the vehicle stationary with engine power.Use the serv- ice brake or the parking brake.
(cid:129) Do not shift from N (Neutral) or P (Park) into D (Drive), or R (Reverse) when the engine is above idle speed.
E060101ABH Transmission ranges The indicator in the instrument cluster displays the shift lever position when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
P (Park) Always come to a complete stop before shifting into P (Park). This position locks the transmission and prevents the drive wheels from rotating.
WARNING
(cid:129) Shifting into P (Park) while the vehicle is in motion will cause the drive wheels to lock which will cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
(cid:129) Do not use the P (Park) position in place of the parking brake. Always make sure the shift lever is latched in the P (Park) position and set the parking brake fully.
(cid:129) Never leave a child unattended in
a vehicle.

CAUTION
The transmission may be damaged if you shift into P (Park) while the vehicle is in motion.
R (Reverse) Use this position to drive the vehicle backward.
CAUTION
Always come to a complete stop before shifting into or out of R (Reverse); you may damage the transmission if you shift into R (Reverse) while the vehicle is in motion, except as explained in “Rocking the vehicle” in this sec- tion.
Driving your vehicle
N (Neutral) The wheels and transmission are not engaged. The vehicle will roll freely even on the slightest incline unless the parking brake or service brakes are applied.
D (Drive) This is the normal forward driving posi- tion. The transmission will automatically shift through a 6-gear sequence, provid- ing the best fuel economy and power.
For extra power when passing another vehicle or climbing grades, depress the accelerator fully, at which time the trans- mission will automatically downshift to the next lower gear.
✽✽ NOTICE Always come to a complete stop before shifting into D (Drive).

Sports mode Whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, sports mode is selected by push- ing the shift lever from the D (Drive) posi- tion into the manual gate. To return to D (Drive) range operation, push the shift lever back into the main gate.
In sports mode, moving the shift lever backwards and forwards will allow you to make gearshifts rapidly. Up (+)
: Push the lever forward once to shift up one gear.
Down (-) : Pull the lever backwards once
to shift down one gear.

✽✽ NOTICE • In sports mode, the driver must exe- cute upshifts in accordance with road conditions, taking care to keep the engine speed below the red zone.
• In sports mode, only the 6 forward gears can be selected. To reverse or park the vehicle, move the shift lever to the R (Reverse) or P (Park) position as required.
• In sports mode, downshifts are made automatically when the vehicle slows down. When the vehicle stops, 1st gear is automatically selected.
• In sports mode, when the engine rpm approaches the red zone shift points are varied to upshift automatically.
• To maintain the required levels of vehicle performance and safety, the system may not execute certain gearshifts when the shift lever is oper- ated.

BRAKE SYSTEM E070100ABH Power brakes Your vehicle has power-assisted brakes that adjust automatically through normal usage. In the event that the power-assisted brakes lose power because of a stalled engine or some other reason, you can still stop your vehicle by applying greater force to the brake pedal than you nor- mally would. The stopping distance, how- ever, will be longer. When the engine is not running, the reserve brake power is partially depleted each time the brake pedal is applied. Do not pump the brake pedal when the power assist has been interrupted. Pump the brake pedal only when neces- sary to maintain steering control on slip- pery surfaces.

(cid:129) Do not drive with your foot rest- ing on the brake pedal. This will create abnormal high brake tem- peratures, excessive brake lining and pad wear, and increased stopping distances.
(cid:129) When descending a long or steep hill, shift to a lower gear and avoid continuous application of the brakes. Continuous brake application will cause the brakes to overheat and could result in a temporary loss of braking per- formance.
(cid:129) Wet brakes may impair the vehi- cle’s ability to safely slow down; the vehicle may also pull to one side when the brakes are applied. Applying the brakes lightly will indicate whether they have been affected in this way. Always test your brakes in this fashion after driving through deep water. To dry the brakes, apply them lightly while maintaining a safe forward speed until brake performance returns to normal.

When your brake pads are worn and new pads are required, you will hear a high- pitched warning sound from your front brakes or rear brakes. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with your brakes.

In these cases, the brake warning light comes on, the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from green to white, and warning sounds and a message will appear to inform you that EPB has been automatically engaged. Before driving again, press the foot brake pedal, check the surrounding area near your vehicle and release the parking brake manually with the EPB switch.
• When AUTO HOLD is ON and the vehicle comes to a stop on a steep slope (about 25% gradient or more), the EPB will be automatically engaged. In this case, when you release EPB manually by pulling the EPB switch with the foot brake pedal pressed, AUTO HOLD will hold the vehicle for 3 seconds in order to pre- vent the vehicle from rolling back during the launch.
• If the AUTO HOLD malfunction indi- cator lights up yellow on the LCD screen, the AUTO HOLD is not work- ing properly. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked.

The braking distance for cars equipped with an anti-lock braking system (or Electronic Stability Control system) may be longer than for those without it in the following road conditions. The safety features of an ABS (or ESC) equipped vehicle should not be tested by high speed driving or cornering. This could endanger the safety of yourself or others.
The ABS continuously senses the speed of the wheels. If the wheels are going to lock, the ABS system repeatedly modu- lates the hydraulic brake pressure to the wheels. When you apply your brakes under con- ditions which may lock the wheels, you may hear a “tik-tik’’ sound from the brakes, or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and it means your ABS is active. In order to obtain the maximum benefit from your ABS in an emergency situa- tion, do not attempt to modulate your brake pressure and do not try to pump your brakes. Press your brake pedal as hard as possible or as hard as the situa- tion warrants and allow the ABS to con- trol the force being delivered to the brakes.

The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether ESC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. It is still your responsibility to drive and corner at reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety. When you apply your brakes under con- ditions which may lock the wheels, you may hear a “tik-tik’’ sound from the brakes, or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and it means your ESC is active.
