pressing V (Set/Reset) or the trip odometer reset stem. The messages that require immediate action cannot be cleared until that action is performed. All messages should be taken seriously and clearing the message does not correct the problem. The following are the possible messages and some information about them.
Battery Voltage and Charging Messages
BATTERY LOW START VEHICLE When the vehicle’s battery is severely discharged, this message will display and four chimes will sound. Start the vehicle immediately. If the vehicle is not started and the battery continues to discharge, the climate controls, heated seats, and audio systems will shut off and the vehicle may require a jump start. These systems will function again after the vehicle is started. SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM On some vehicles, this message displays if there is a problem with the battery charging system. Under certain conditions, the charging system light may also turn on in the instrument cluster. See Charging System Light on page 5-18. Driving with this problem could drain the

battery. Turn off all unnecessary accessories. Have the electrical system checked as soon as possible. See your dealer.
Brake System Messages
SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM This message displays along with the brake system warning light if there is a problem with the brake system. See Brake System Warning Light on page 5-21. If this message appears, stop as soon as possible and turn off the vehicle. Restart the vehicle and check for the message on the DIC display. If the message is still displayed or appears again when you begin driving, the brake system needs service as soon as possible. See your dealer. SERVICE BRAKES SOON This message displays if there is a problem with the brake system. If this message appears, stop as soon as possible and turn off the vehicle. Restart the vehicle and

check for the message on the DIC display. If the message is still displayed or appears again when you begin driving, the brake system needs service. See your dealer. SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM On vehicles with the Integrated Trailer Brake Control (ITBC) system, this message displays and a chime sounds when there is a problem with the ITBC system. When this message displays, power is no longer available to the trailer brakes. As soon as it is safe to do so, carefully pull your vehicle over to the side of the road and turn the ignition off. Check the wiring connection to the trailer and turn the ignition back on. If this message still displays, either your vehicle or the trailer needs service. See your dealer.

Door Ajar Messages
DRIVER DOOR OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the driver door is not fully closed and the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). Stop and turn off the vehicle, check the door for obstructions, and close the door again. Check to see if the message still appears on the DIC. HOOD OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the hood is not fully closed. Stop and turn off the vehicle, check the hood for obstructions, and close the hood again. Check to see if the message still appears on the DIC.

RIGHT REAR DOOR OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the passenger side rear door is not fully closed and the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). Stop and turn off the vehicle, check the door for obstructions, and close the door again. Check to see if the message still appears on the DIC.
Engine Cooling System Messages Notice: If you drive the vehicle while the engine is overheating, severe engine damage may occur. If an overheat warning appears on the instrument cluster and/or DIC, stop the vehicle as soon as possible. See Engine Overheating on page 10-18.
ENGINE HOT A/C (Air Conditioning) TURNED OFF This message displays when the engine coolant becomes hotter than the normal operating temperature. See Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge on page 5-14. To avoid added strain on a hot engine, the air conditioning compressor automatically turns off. When the coolant temperature returns to normal, the air conditioning compressor turns back on. You can continue to drive your vehicle. If this message continues to appear, have the system repaired by your dealer as soon as possible to avoid damage to the engine.
LEFT REAR DOOR OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the driver side rear door is not fully closed and the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). Stop and turn off the vehicle, check the door for obstructions, and close the door again. Check to see if the message still appears on the DIC. PASSENGER DOOR OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the front passenger door is not fully closed and the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). Stop and turn off the vehicle, check the door for obstructions, and close the door again. Check to see if the message still appears on the DIC. REAR ACCESS OPEN This message displays and a chime sounds if the liftgate or liftglass is open while the ignition is in ON/ RUN. Turn off the vehicle and check the liftgate and liftglass. Restart the vehicle and check for the message on the DIC display.

ENGINE OVERHEATED IDLE ENGINE This message displays when the engine coolant temperature is too hot. Stop and allow the vehicle to idle until it cools down. See Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge on page 5-14. See Overheated Engine Protection Operating Mode on page 10-19 for information on driving to a safe place in an emergency. ENGINE OVERHEATED STOP ENGINE This message displays and a chime sounds if the engine cooling system reaches unsafe temperatures for operation. Stop and turn off the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so to avoid severe damage. This message clears when the engine has cooled to a safe operating temperature.

Engine Oil Messages
CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON This message displays when the engine oil needs to be changed. When you change the engine oil, be sure to reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message. See Engine Oil Life System on page 10-9 for information on how to reset the message. See Engine Oil on page 10-6 and Maintenance Schedule on page 11-2 for more information. ENGINE OIL HOT IDLE ENGINE This message displays when the engine oil becomes hotter than the normal operating temperature. Stop and allow the vehicle to idle until it cools down. See Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge on page 5-14.
OIL PRESSURE LOW STOP ENGINE Notice: If you drive the vehicle while the engine oil pressure is low, severe engine damage may occur. If a low oil pressure warning appears on the Driver Information Center (DIC), stop the vehicle as soon as possible. Do not drive the vehicle until the cause of the low oil pressure is corrected. See Engine Oil on page 10-6 for more information. This message displays if low oil pressure levels occur. Stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible and do not operate it until the cause of the low oil pressure has been corrected. Check the oil as soon as possible and have the vehicle serviced by your dealer. See Engine Oil on page 10-6.

Engine Power Messages
Fuel System Messages
Key and Lock Messages
ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED This message displays and a chime sounds when the cooling system temperature gets too hot and the engine further enters the engine coolant protection mode. See Engine Overheating on page 10-18
for further information. This message also displays when the engine power is reduced. Reduced engine power can affect the vehicle's ability to accelerate. If this message is on, but there is no reduction in performance, proceed to your destination. The performance may be reduced the next time the vehicle is driven. The vehicle may be driven at a reduced speed while this message is on, but acceleration and speed may be reduced. Anytime this message stays on, the vehicle should be taken to your dealer for service as soon as possible.FUEL LEVEL LOW This message displays and a chime sounds if the fuel level is low. Refuel as soon as possible. See Fuel Gauge on page 5-12 and Fuel on page 9-55 for more information. TIGHTEN GAS CAP This message may display along with the check engine light on the instrument cluster if the fuel cap is not tightened properly. See Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 5-19. Reinstall the fuel cap fully. See Filling the Tank on page 9-58. The diagnostic system can determine if the fuel cap has been left off or improperly installed. A loose or missing fuel cap allows fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere. A few driving trips with the cap properly installed should turn this light and message off.
REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY This message displays if a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter battery is low. The battery needs to be replaced in the transmitter. See “Battery Replacement” under Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation on page 2-2.
Lamp Messages
TURN SIGNAL ON This message displays and a chime sounds if a turn signal is left on for 1.2 km (0.75 mi). Move the turn signal lever to the off position.

Object Detection System Messages
PARK ASST BLOCKED SEE OWNERS MANUAL This message displays if there is something interfering with the park assist system. See Ultrasonic Parking Assist on page 9-48 for more information. PARK ASSIST OFF After the vehicle has been started, this message displays to remind the driver that the URPA system has been turned off. Press the set/reset button or the trip odometer reset stem to acknowledge this message and clear it from the DIC display. To turn the URPA system back on, see Ultrasonic Parking Assist on page 9-48. SERVICE PARK ASSIST This message displays if there is a problem with the Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist (URPA) system. Do not use this system to help you
park. See Ultrasonic Parking Assist on page 9-48 for more information. See your dealer for service. SERVICE SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT SYSTEM If your vehicle has the Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) system and this message displays, both SBZA displays will remain on indicating there is a problem with the SBZA system. If these displays remain on after continued driving, the system needs service. See your dealer. See Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) on page 9-49 for more information. SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT SYSTEM OFF If your vehicle has the Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) system, this message displays when the SBZA system has been turned off. See Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) on page 9-49 and Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 5-26 for more information.
SIDE BLIND ZONE SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE If your vehicle has the Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) system, this message displays when the SBZA system is disabled because the sensor is blocked and cannot detect vehicles in your blind zone. The sensor may be blocked by mud, dirt, snow, ice, or slush. This message may also display during heavy rain or due to road spray. It may also come on when driving in isolated areas with no guardrails, trees, or road signs and light traffic. Your vehicle does not need service. For cleaning instructions, see “Washing Your Vehicle” in Exterior Care on page 10-87. See Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) on page 9-49 for more information.

Ride Control System Messages
SERVICE STABILITRAK If your vehicle has StabiliTrak® and this message displays, it means there may be a problem with the StabiliTrak system. If you see this message, try to reset the system. Stop; turn off the engine for at least 15 seconds; then start the engine again. If this message still comes on, it means there is a problem. You should see your dealer for service. The vehicle is safe to drive, however, you do not have the benefit of StabiliTrak, so reduce your speed and drive accordingly. SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM If your vehicle has the Autoride® suspension system, this message displays when the Autoride suspension system is not operating properly. Have your vehicle serviced by your dealer.
SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL If your vehicle has StabiliTrak, this message displays when there is a problem with the Traction Control System (TCS). When this message displays, the system will not limit wheel spin. Adjust your driving accordingly. See your dealer for service. See StabiliTrak® System on page 9-42 for more information. STABILITRAK INITIALIZING If the vehicle has StabiliTrak, this message may come on if the StabiliTrak system has not fully initialized because of road conditions or the incorrect tire size. When the StabiliTrak system is fully initialized, the message will turn off. See StabiliTrak® System on page 9-42 for more information. If this message continues to be displayed for multiple ignition cycles and on different road surfaces, see your dealer for service.
TRACTION XX STABILITRAK XX This message displays when the traction control and/or StabiliTrak systems have been turned on or off. Adjust your driving accordingly. To limit wheel spin and realize the full benefits of the stability enhancement system, you should normally leave StabiliTrak on. However, you should turn StabiliTrak off if the vehicle gets stuck in sand, mud, ice, or snow and you want to rock the vehicle to attempt to free it, or if you are driving in extreme off-road conditions and require more wheel spin. See If the Vehicle Is Stuck on page 9-14. To turn the StabiliTrak system on or off, see StabiliTrak® System on page 9-42.

STABILITRAK OFF may also display when the stability control has been automatically disabled. There are several conditions that can cause this message to appear.
. One condition is overheating,
which could occur if StabiliTrak activates continuously for an extended period of time.
The message also displays if the brake system warning light is on. See Brake System Warning Light on page 5-21.
The message could display if the stability system takes longer than usual to complete its diagnostic checks due to driving conditions.
The message displays if an engine or vehicle related problem has been detected and the vehicle needs service. See your dealer.

Airbag System Messages
SERVICE AIR BAG This message displays if there is a problem with the airbag system. Have your dealer inspect the system for problems. See Airbag Readiness Light on page 5-16 and Airbag System on page 3-27 for more information.
Security Messages
SERVICE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM This message displays when there is a problem with the theft-deterrent system. The vehicle may or may not restart, so you may want to take the vehicle to your dealer before turning off the engine. See Immobilizer Operation on page 2-14.
Tire Messages
SERVICE TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM On vehicles with the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), this message displays if a part on the TPMS is not working properly. The tire pressure light also flashes and then remains on during the same ignition cycle. See Tire Pressure Light on page 5-23. Several conditions may cause this message to appear. See Tire Pressure Monitor Operation on page 10-52 for more information. If the warning comes on and stays on, there may be a problem with the TPMS. See your dealer. TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE On vehicles with the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), this message displays when the TPMS is re-learning the tire positions on your vehicle. The tire positions must be re-learned after rotating the tires or after replacing a tire or sensor.

See Tire Inspection on page 10-54, Tire Rotation on page 10-55, Tire Pressure Monitor System on page 10-51, and Tire Pressure on page 10-49 for more information. TIRE LOW ADD AIR TO TIRE On vehicles with the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), this message displays when the pressure in one or more of the vehicle's tires needs to be checked. This message also displays LEFT FRT (left front), RIGHT FRT (right front), LEFT RR (left rear), or RIGHT RR (right rear) to indicate the location of the low tire. The low tire pressure warning light will also come on. See Tire Pressure Light on page 5-23. You can receive more than one tire pressure message at a time. To read the other messages that may have been sent at the same time, press the set/reset button or the trip odometer reset stem. If a tire pressure message appears on the DIC, stop as soon as you can. Have the tire pressures
checked and set to those shown on the Tire Loading Information label. See Tires on page 10-40, Vehicle Load Limits on page 9-15, and Tire Pressure on page 10-49. The DIC also shows the tire pressure values. See Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 5-26.
Transmission Messages
GRADE BRAKING DISABLED This message displays when the grade braking has been disabled with the tow/haul mode button on the end of the shift lever. See Tow/ Haul Mode on page 9-32, Automatic Transmission on page 9-28, and Cruise Control on page 9-46. GRADE BRAKING ENABLED This message displays when the grade braking has been enabled with the tow/haul mode button on the end of the shift lever. See Tow/ Haul Mode on page 9-32, Automatic Transmission on page 9-28, and Cruise Control on page 9-46.
GRADE BRAKING ON This message displays when the grade braking has been activated while driving on downhill grades. This message will only appear the first time the feature is activated in an ignition cycle. See Tow/Haul Mode on page 9-32, Automatic Transmission on page 9-28, and Cruise Control on page 9-46. SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE If the vehicle has four-wheel drive, this message may display if a problem occurs with the four-wheel-drive system. If this message appears, stop as soon as possible and turn off the vehicle. Make sure the key is in the LOCK/ OFF position for at least one minute and then restart the vehicle and check for the message on the DIC display. If the message is still displayed or appears again when you begin driving, the four-wheel-drive system needs service. See your dealer.

TRANSMISSION HOT IDLE ENGINE Notice: Do not drive the vehicle while the transmission fluid is overheating and the transmission temperature warning is displayed on the instrument cluster and/or DIC, or the transmission can be damaged. This could lead to costly repairs that would not be covered by the warranty. This message displays and a chime may sound if the transmission fluid in the vehicle gets hot. Driving with the transmission fluid temperature high can cause damage to the vehicle. Stop the vehicle and let it idle to allow the transmission to cool. This message clears and the chime stops when the fluid temperature reaches a safe level.

Vehicle Reminder Messages
CHECK TRAILER WIRING On vehicles with the Integrated Trailer Brake Control (ITBC) system, this message may display and a chime may sound when one of the following conditions exists:
. A trailer with electric brakes
becomes disconnected from the vehicle. ‐ If the disconnect occurs while
the vehicle is stopped, this message clears itself after a short time.
‐ If the disconnect occurs while
the vehicle is moving, this message stays on until the ignition is turned off.
There is a short in the wiring to the electric trailer brakes.
When this message displays, power is no longer available to the trailer brakes.
As soon as it is safe to do so, carefully pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and turn the ignition off. Check the wiring connection to the trailer and turn the ignition back on. This message clears if the trailer is reconnected. This message also clears if you acknowledge it. If this message still displays, either the vehicle or the trailer needs service. See your dealer. See “Integrated Trailer Brake Control System” under Towing Equipment on page 9-67. ICE POSSIBLE DRIVE WITH CARE This message displays when ice conditions are possible. TRAILER CONNECTED On vehicles with the Integrated Trailer Brake Control (ITBC) system, this message displays briefly when a trailer with electric brakes is first connected to the vehicle.

This message clears itself after several seconds. This message also clears if you acknowledge it. After this message clears, the TRAILER GAIN/OUTPUT display appears in the DIC. See “Trailer Gain and Output” under Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 5-26 and “Integrated Trailer Brake Control System” under Towing Equipment on page 9-67.
Washer Fluid Messages
WASHER FLUID LOW ADD FLUID This message displays when the windshield washer fluid is low. Fill the windshield washer fluid reservoir as soon as possible. See Engine Compartment Overview on page 10-5 for the location of the windshield washer fluid reservoir. Also, see Washer Fluid on page 10-21 for more information.
Vehicle Personalization
Vehicle Personalization (With DIC Buttons) Your vehicle may have customization capabilities that allow you to program certain features to one preferred setting. Customization features can only be programmed to one setting on the vehicle and cannot be programmed to a preferred setting for two different drivers. All of the customization options may not be available on your vehicle. Only the options available will be displayed on the DIC. The default settings for the customization features were set when your vehicle left the factory, but may have been changed from their default state since then. The customization preferences are automatically recalled.
To change customization preferences, use the following procedure. Entering the Feature Settings Menu 1. Turn the ignition on and place
the vehicle in P (Park). To avoid excessive drain on the battery, it is recommended that the headlamps are turned off.
2. Press the customization button
to scroll through the available customizable options.
Feature Settings Menu Items The following are customization features that allow you to program settings to the vehicle:
DISPLAY IN ENGLISH This feature will only display if a language other than English has been set. This feature allows you to change the language in which the DIC messages appear to English.

NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature. The current setting will remain. To select a setting, press the set/ reset button while the desired setting is displayed on the DIC. You can also change the language by pressing the trip odometer reset stem. See “Language” under DIC Operation and Displays (Without DIC Buttons) earlier in this section for more information.
AUTO DOOR LOCK This feature allows you to select when the vehicle's doors will automatically lock. See Automatic Door Locks on page 2-8 for more information.
Press the customization button until AUTO DOOR LOCK appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button once to access the settings for this feature. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: SHIFT OUT OF PARK (default): The doors will automatically lock when the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park). AT VEHICLE SPEED: The doors will automatically lock when the vehicle speed is above 8 mph (13 km/h) for 3 seconds. NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature. The current setting will remain. To select a setting, press the set/ reset button while the desired setting is displayed on the DIC.
Press the customization button until the PRESS V TO DISPLAY IN ENGLISH screen appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button once to display all DIC messages in English.
DISPLAY LANGUAGE This feature allows you to select the language in which the DIC messages will appear. Press the customization button until the DISPLAY LANGUAGE screen appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button once to access the settings for this feature. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: ENGLISH (default): All messages will appear in English. FRANCAIS: All messages will appear in French. ESPANOL: All messages will appear in Spanish.

AUTO DOOR UNLOCK This feature allows you to select whether or not to turn off the automatic door unlocking feature. It also allows you to select which doors and when the doors will automatically unlock. See Automatic Door Locks on page 2-8 for more information. Press the customization button until AUTO DOOR UNLOCK appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button once to access the settings for this feature. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: OFF: None of the doors will automatically unlock. DRIVER AT KEY OUT: Only the driver door will unlock when the key is taken out of the ignition. DRIVER IN PARK: Only the driver door will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into P (Park).
ALL AT KEY OUT: All of the doors will unlock when the key is taken out of the ignition. ALL IN PARK (default): All of the doors will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into P (Park). NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature. The current setting will remain. To select a setting, press the set/ reset button while the desired setting is displayed on the DIC.
REMOTE DOOR LOCK This feature allows you to select the type of feedback you will receive when locking the vehicle with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. You will not receive feedback when locking the vehicle with the RKE transmitter if the doors are open. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation on page 2-2 for more information.
Press the customization button until REMOTE DOOR LOCK appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button once to access the settings for this feature. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: OFF: There will be no feedback when you press the lock button on the RKE transmitter. LIGHTS ONLY: The exterior lamps will flash when you press the lock button on the RKE transmitter. HORN ONLY: The horn will sound on the second press of the lock button on the RKE transmitter. HORN & LIGHTS (default): The exterior lamps will flash when you press the lock button on the RKE transmitter, and the horn will sound when the lock button is pressed again within five seconds of the previous command. NO CHANGE: No change will be made to this feature. The current setting will remain.

REMOTE DOOR UNLOCK This feature allows you to select the type of feedback you will receive when unlocking the vehicle with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. You will not receive feedback when unlocking the vehicle with the RKE transmitter if the doors are open. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation on page 2-2 for more information. When locking the doors and liftgate with the power door lock switch and a door or the liftgate is open, this feature will delay locking the doors and liftgate until five seconds after the last door is closed. You will hear three chimes to signal that the delayed locking feature is in use. The key must be out of the ignition for this feature to work. You can temporarily override delayed locking by pressing the
power door lock switch twice. See Delayed Locking on page 2-8 for more information. Press the customization button until DELAY DOOR LOCK appears on the DIC display. EXIT LIGHTING This feature allows you to select the amount of time you want the exterior lamps to remain on when it is dark enough outside. This happens after the key is turned from ON/RUN to LOCK/OFF. Press the customization button until EXIT LIGHTING appears on the DIC display. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: OFF: The exterior lamps will not turn on. 30 SECONDS (default): The exterior lamps will stay on for 30 seconds. 1 MINUTE: The exterior lamps will stay on for 1 minute. 2 MINUTES: The exterior lamps will stay on for 2 minutes. APPROACH LIGHTING This feature allows you to select whether or not to have the exterior lights turn on briefly during low light periods after unlocking the vehicle using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. Then press the customization button to scroll through the following settings: OFF: The exterior lights will not turn on when you unlock the vehicle with the RKE transmitter. Universal Remote System Programming
Vehicles with the Universal Remote System will have these buttons located in the headliner. This system provides a way to replace up to three remote control transmitters used to activate devices such as garage door openers, security systems, and home automation devices.
Do not use this system with any garage door opener that does not have the stop and reverse feature. This includes any garage door opener model manufactured before April 1, 1982. Read the instructions completely before attempting to program the transmitter. Because of the steps involved, it may be helpful to have another person assist with programming the transmitter. Be sure to keep the original remote control transmitter for use in other vehicles, as well as for future programming. Only the original remote control transmitter is needed for Fixed Code programming. The programmed buttons should be erased when the vehicle is sold or the lease ends. See “Erasing Universal Home Remote Buttons” in this section.

To program up to three devices: 1. From inside the vehicle, press the two outside buttons at the same time for one to two seconds, and immediately release them.

In the garage, locate the garage door opener receiver (motor-head unit). Find the “Learn” or “Smart” button. It can usually be found where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the motor-head unit and may be a colored button. Press this button. After pressing this button, complete the following steps in less than 30 seconds.

Immediately return to the vehicle. Press and hold the Universal Home Remote button that will be used to control the garage door until the garage door moves. The indicator light, above the selected button, should slowly blink. This button may need to be held for up to 20 seconds. When the headlamps are turned on while the vehicle is on, the headlamps will turn off automatically 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off. When the headlamps are turned on while the vehicle is off, the headlamps will stay on for 10 minutes before automatically turning off to prevent the battery from being drained. Turn the headlamp control to off and then back to the headlamp on position to make the headlamps stay on for an additional 10 minutes.
Exterior Lamps Off Reminder A reminder chime will sound when the headlamps or parking lamps are manually turned on and the ignition is off and a door is open. To disable the chime, turn the light off.
Headlamp High/ Low-Beam Changer 5 3 (Headlamp High/Low Beam Changer): To change the headlamps from low to high beam, push the turn signal lever toward the instrument panel. To return to low-beam headlamps, pull the lever toward you. Then release it.
When the high beams are on, this indicator light on the instrument cluster will also be on.
Flash-to-Pass This feature lets you use the high-beam headlamps to signal a driver in front of you that you want to pass. It works even if the headlamps are in the automatic position.

To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, then release it. If the headlamps are in the automatic position or on low beam, the high-beam headlamps will turn on. They will stay on as long as you hold the lever toward you. The high-beam indicator on the instrument cluster will come on. Release the lever to return to normal operation.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) DRL can make it easier for others to see the front of the vehicle during the day. Fully functional DRL are required on all vehicles first sold in Canada. The DRL system comes on when the following conditions are met:
The ignition is on.
The exterior lamp control is in AUTO.
The transmission is not in P (Park).
The light sensor determines it is daytime.
When the DRL system is on, only the DRL are on. The taillamps, sidemarker lamps, instrument panel lights, and other lamps will not be on. When it begins to get dark, the automatic headlamp system switches from DRL to the headlamps. To turn off the DRL, turn the exterior lamp control to the off position and then release. For vehicles first sold in Canada, off will only work when the vehicle is in P (Park).
Automatic Headlamp System When it is dark enough outside, the automatic headlamp system turns on the headlamps at the normal brightness, along with the taillamps,

sidemarker, parking lamps, and the instrument panel lights. The radio lights will also be dim. To turn off the automatic headlamp system, turn the exterior lamps switch to the off position and then release it. For vehicles first sold in Canada, the transmission must be in the P (Park) position before the automatic headlamp system can be turned off.
The vehicle has a light sensor located on the top of the instrument panel which regulates when the automatic headlamps turn on. Do not cover the sensor, otherwise the headlamps will come on whenever the ignition is on.

Lighting
The system may also turn on the headlamps when driving through a parking garage or heavy overcast weather. This is normal. There is a delay in the transition between the daytime and nighttime operation of the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) and the automatic headlamp systems so that driving under bridges or bright overhead street lights does not affect the system. The DRL and automatic headlamp system are only affected when the light sensor detects a change in lighting lasting longer than the delay. If the vehicle is started in a dark garage, the automatic headlamp system comes on immediately. Once the vehicle leaves the garage, it takes approximately one minute for the automatic headlamp system to change to DRL if it is bright enough outside. During that delay, the instrument cluster may not be as bright as usual. Make sure the instrument panel brightness control
is in the full bright position. See Instrument Panel Illumination Control on page 6-7. To idle the vehicle with the automatic headlamp system off, turn the control to the off position. The headlamps will also stay on after you exit the vehicle. This feature can be programmed using the Driver Information Center (DIC). See Vehicle Personalization (With DIC Buttons) on page 5-44. If the vehicle is not equipped with DIC buttons, exit lighting is automatic. When it is dark enough outside, the exterior lamps remain on for 30 seconds after the ignition is moved from ON/RUN to LOCK/OFF. For vehicles without a radio, the instrument panel light remains on for 30 seconds with the driver door closed. For vehicles with a radio, the instrument panel light remains on for 10 minutes with the driver
door closed. See Retained Accessory Power (RAP) on page 9-24. The regular headlamp system can be turned on when needed. Lights On with Wipers If the windshield wipers are activated in daylight with the engine on, and the exterior lamp control is in AUTO, the headlamps, parking lamps, and other exterior lamps come on. The transition time for the lamps coming on varies based on wiper speed. When the wipers are not operating, these lamps turn off. Move the exterior lamp control to P or ; to disable this feature.

Hazard Warning Flashers
Turn and Lane-Change Signals
| (Hazard Warning Flashers): Press this button to make the front and rear turn signal lamps flash on and off. Press again to turn the flashers off. When the hazard warning flashers are on, the vehicle's turn signals will not work.
Move the lever all the way up or down to signal a turn. An arrow on the instrument cluster flashes in the direction of the turn or lane change. Raise or lower the lever for less than one second until the arrow starts to flash to signal a lane change. This causes the turn signals to automatically flash three times. one second will cause the turn signals to flash until you release the lever. The lever returns to its starting position whenever it is released. If after signaling a turn or a lane change the arrows flash rapidly or do not come on, a signal bulb may be burned out. Have any burned out bulbs replaced. If a bulb is not burned out, check the fuse. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers on page 10-32.
Turn Signal On Chime If the turn signal is left on for more than 1.2 km (0.75 mi), a chime will sound at each flash of the turn signal and the message TURN SIGNAL ON will also appear in the Driver Information Control (DIC). To turn the chime and message off, move the turn signal lever to the off position.

Fog Lamps
For vehicles with fog lamps, the control is located next to the exterior lamp control on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering column. The ignition must be in the ON/RUN position for the fog lamps to come on. # (Fog Lamps): Press to turn the fog lamps on or off. A light will come on in the instrument cluster. When the fog lamps are turned on, the parking lamps automatically turn on.
When the headlamps are changed to high beam, the fog lamps also go off. When the high-beam headlamps are turned off, the fog lamps will come on again. Some localities have laws that require the headlamps to be on with the fog lamps.
Auxiliary Roof-Mounted Lamp If the vehicle has this feature, this button includes wiring provisions for a dealer or a qualified service center to install an auxiliary roof lamp.
This button is on the overhead console.
When the wiring is connected to an auxiliary roof-mounted lamp, pressing the bottom of the button will activate the lamp and illuminate an indicator light at the bottom of this button. Pressing the top of the button will turn off the roof-mounted lamp and indicator. The emergency roof lamp circuit is fused at 30 amps, so the total current draw of the attached lamps should be less than this value. The attachment points for the roof lamp circuits are two blunt cut wires located above the overhead console, a dark green switched power wire and a black ground wire. k (Dome Off): Press the button in and the dome lamps remain off when a door is opened. Press the button again to return it to the extended position so that the dome lamps come on when a door is opened.
Dome Lamps The dome lamps are located in the overhead console. They come on when any door is opened and turn off after all the doors are closed. Turn the instrument panel brightness knob located below the dome lamp override button, clockwise to the farthest position to manually turn on the dome lamps. The dome lamps remain on until the knob is turned counterclockwise.
Dome Lamp Override The dome lamp override button is located next to the exterior lamps control.
Interior Lighting
Instrument Panel Illumination Control
D (Instrument Panel Brightness): This feature controls the brightness of the instrument panel lights and is located next to the exterior lamps control. Push the knob to extend out and then it can be turned. Turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise to brighten or dim the instrument panel lights. Turning the knob to the farthest clockwise position turns on the dome lamps.
