Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System The RKE transmitter may work up to 60 m (195 ft) away from the vehicle. The RKE transmitter can have one of the two symbols for the remote trunk release.

Initial Drive Information This section provides a brief overview about some of the important features that may or may not be on your specific vehicle. For more detailed information, refer to each of the features which can be found later in this owner manual.
Starting the Engine The vehicle has a Computer-Controlled Cranking System. It assists in starting the engine and protects components. If the ignition key is turned to START and then released when the engine begins cranking, the engine will continue cranking for a few seconds or until the engine starts. If the engine does not start and the key is held in START, cranking will be stopped after 15 seconds to prevent damage. To prevent gear damage, cranking is not allowed if the engine is running. Press the key release button to extend the key blade. The key can be used for the ignition and all locks. Press K to unlock the driver door or all doors. Press Q to lock all doors. Lock and unlock feedback can be personalized. See Vehicle Personalization on page 5-27. If equipped, press and hold V or Y to release the trunk. Press and release 7 to initiate vehicle locator. Press and hold 7 for at least three seconds to sound the panic alarm. Press 7 again to cancel the panic alarm. See Keys on page 2-1 and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation on page 2-3.
Remote Vehicle Start If equipped with this feature, the engine can be started from outside the vehicle. Starting the Vehicle 1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the
vehicle.
2. Press and release Q. 3.
Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold / for at least four seconds or until the turn signal lamps flash.
When the engine starts, the parking lamps will turn on and remain on as long as the engine is running. The doors will be locked and the climate control system may come on. The engine will continue to run for 10 minutes. Repeat the steps for a 10-minute time extension. Remote start can be extended only once.
Canceling a Remote Start To cancel a remote start, do one of the following: . Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle and press and hold / until the parking lamps turn off. Turn on the hazard warning flashers. Turn the vehicle on and then off.

Door Locks To lock or unlock the doors from outside the vehicle: . Use the key in the driver door to
lock all doors or unlock the driver door only.

To unlock the doors from inside the vehicle: . Press K on the central locking
switch or on the driver door switch.
. Pull the door handle. Pulling the
door handle again unlatches the door. Lift the lock knob on the driver door to unlock the driver door. See Door Locks on page 2-7. See Central Locking System on page 2-8.
Liftgate To lock or unlock the liftgate from the inside, press Q or K on the central locking switch or on the driver door switch. The vehicle must be in P (Park) for automatic transmissions. For manual transmissions the parking brake must be engaged.
To open the liftgate from the outside, press K twice on the RKE transmitter to unlock all doors, then use the touch pad. See Liftgate (Hatchback) on page 2-12.
Trunk Release To lock or unlock the trunk from the inside, press Q or K on the central locking switch or on the driver door switch.
To lock the doors from inside the vehicle: . Press Q on the central locking
switch or on the driver door switch.
. Press the lock knob on the driver
door to lock all doors and, if equipped, the liftgate.

To open the trunk from inside the vehicle press V.
To lock the trunk from the outside press Q on the RKE transmitter. To open the trunk from outside of the vehicle: . Press K on the RKE transmitter to unlock all doors, then use the touch pad.

Power Windows

Seat Height Adjuster
Reclining Seatbacks
To adjust a manual seat: 1. Pull the handle at the front of
the seat.
2. Slide the seat to the desired
position and release the handle.
3. Try to move the seat back and
forth to be sure it is locked in place.

If available, move the lever up or down to manually raise or lower the seat. See Seat Adjustment on page 3-3.
To recline a manual seatback: 1. Lift the lever.
If necessary, move the safety belt out of the way to access the lever.
2. Move the seatback to the desired position, and then release the lever to lock the seatback in place.
3. Push and pull on the seatback to
make sure it is locked in place.

To return the seatback to the upright position: 1. Lift the lever fully without applying pressure to the seatback, and the seatback will return to the upright position.
2. Push and pull on the seatback to
make sure it is locked.

Second Row Seats The rear seatbacks can be folded down to increase cargo space. See Rear Seats on page 3-7.
Head Restraint Adjustment Do not drive until the head restraints for all occupants are installed and adjusted properly. To achieve a comfortable seating position, change the seatback recline angle as little as necessary

Mirror Adjustment
Exterior Mirrors
Manual Outside Mirrors
Move the control up, down, or side to side to adjust the mirror. See Manual Mirrors on page 2-15.
Power Outside Mirrors
Interior Mirror Hold the inside rearview mirror in the center to move it for a clearer view behind your vehicle. Adjust the mirror to avoid glare from the headlamps behind you. Push the tab forward for daytime use and pull it for nighttime use. See Manual Rearview Mirror on page 2-17.
Steering Wheel Adjustment
For vehicles with power outside mirrors: 1. Select the mirror by moving the
selector switch to L for the driver side or R for the passenger side.
2. Use the control knob to move
the mirror in the desired direction.

To adjust the steering wheel: 1. Pull the lever down. 2. Move the steering wheel up,
down, forward, and backward.
3. Pull the lever up to lock the
steering wheel in place.

The windshield wiper/washer lever is on the right side of the steering column. Move the lever to one of the following positions: HI: Use for fast wipes. LO: Use for slow wipes.
Hatchback Shown, Sedan Similar INT: Move the lever up to INT for intermittent wipes, then turn the x INT band up for more frequent wipes or down for less frequent wipes. OFF: Use to turn the wipers off. 8 : For a single wipe, briefly move the wiper lever down. For several wipes, hold the wiper lever down. n L : Pull the windshield wiper lever toward you to spray windshield washer fluid and activate the wipers. See Windshield Wiper/Washer on page 5-3. For the best fuel economy, accelerate slowly and shift when the light comes on, if weather, road, and traffic conditions allow. It is normal for the light to go on and off if the accelerator position changes quickly. Ignore the light during downshifts.
Reverse Lockout
The manual transmission is equipped with a reverse lockout ring. To shift into R (Reverse), press down the clutch pedal, lift up the ring on the shift lever, and shift into R (Reverse). Let up on the clutch pedal slowly while pressing the accelerator pedal. See Manual Transmission on page 9-24.
