Compass The vehicle may have a compass display on the Driver Information Center (DIC). The compass receives its heading and other information from the Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna, StabiliTrak®, and vehicle speed information. The compass system is designed to operate for a certain number of miles or degrees of turn before needing a signal from the GPS satellites. When the compass display shows CAL, drive the vehicle for a short distance in an open area where it can receive a GPS signal. The compass system will automatically determine when a GPS signal is restored and provide a heading again. See Compass

Fuel Gauge

Metric

English

When the ignition is on, the fuel gauge indicates about how much fuel is left in the tank. An arrow on the fuel gauge indicates the side of the vehicle the fuel door is on. When the indicator nears empty, the low fuel light comes on. There is still a little fuel left, but the fuel tank should be filled soon. Here are four things that some owners ask about. None of these show a problem with the fuel gauge:

. At the service station, the fuel

pump shuts off before the gauge reads full. It takes a little more or less fuel to fill up than the gauge indicated. For example, the gauge indicated the tank was half full, but it actually took a little more or less than half the tank's capacity to fill the tank. . The gauge moves a little while

turning a corner or speeding up. . The gauge takes a few seconds

to stabilize after the ignition is turned on, and goes back to empty when the ignition is turned off.

Safety Belt Reminders

Driver Safety Belt Reminder Light There is a driver safety belt reminder light on the instrument cluster.

Metric

English

This gauge shows the engine coolant temperature. If the gauge pointer moves toward the shaded area, the engine is too hot. This reading indicates the same thing as the warning light. It means that the engine coolant has overheated. If the vehicle has been operating under normal driving conditions, pull off the road, stop the vehicle, and turn off the engine as soon as possible. See Engine Overheating 0 264 for more information.

When the vehicle is started, this light flashes and a chime may come on to remind the driver to fasten their safety belt. Then the light stays on solid until the belt is buckled. This cycle may continue several times if the driver remains or becomes unbuckled while the vehicle is moving. If the driver safety belt is buckled, neither the light nor the chime comes on.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Light) This light is part of the vehicle’s emission control on-board diagnostic system. If this light is on while the engine is running, a malfunction has been detected and the vehicle may require service. The light should come on to show that it is working when the ignition is in ON/RUN with the engine not running for Key Access or in Service Only Mode for Keyless Access. See Ignition Positions (Keyless Access) 0 201 or Ignition Positions (Key Access) 0 203.

Malfunctions are often indicated by the system before any problem is noticeable. Being aware of the light and seeking service promptly when it comes on may prevent damage.

Caution

If the vehicle is driven continually with this light on, the emission control system may not work as well, the fuel economy may be lower, and the vehicle may not run smoothly. This could lead to costly repairs that might not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Caution

Modifications to the engine, transmission, exhaust, intake, or fuel system, or the use of replacement tires that do not meet the original tire specifications, can cause this light to come on. This could lead to

previous guidelines and see your dealer for service as soon as possible. If the light is on steady : A malfunction has been detected. Diagnosis and service may be required. Check the following: . A loose or missing fuel cap may cause the light to come on. See Filling the Tank 0 239. A few driving trips with the cap properly installed may turn the light off.

. Poor fuel quality can cause

inefficient engine operation and poor driveability, which may go away once the engine is warmed up. If this occurs, change the fuel brand. It may require at least one full tank of the proper fuel to turn the light off. See Fuel 0 237.

If the light remains on, see your dealer.

Some items may not be turned on by default but can be turned on through the Settings app. See “DIC Info Page Options” earlier in this section. Current Speed : Displays the vehicle speed in either kilometers per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph). Trip A and Average Fuel Economy or Trip B and Average Fuel Economy : The Trip display shows the current distance traveled, in

either kilometers (km) or miles (mi), since the trip odometer was last reset. The Average Fuel Economy display shows the approximate average liters per 100 kilometers (L/100 km) or miles per gallon (mpg). This number reflects only the approximate average fuel economy that the vehicle has right now, and will change as driving conditions change. This number is calculated based on the number of L/ 100 km (mpg) recorded since the last time this menu item was reset. The Average Fuel Economy and trip odometer can be reset together by pressing and holding V while this display is active. Fuel Range : Displays the approximate distance the vehicle can be driven without refueling. LOW will be displayed when the vehicle is low on fuel. The fuel range estimate is based on an average of the vehicle's fuel economy over recent driving history and the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

Average Speed : Displays the average speed of the vehicle in kilometers per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph). This average is calculated based on the various vehicle speeds recorded since the last reset of this value. The average speed can be reset by pressing and holding V while this display is active.

Timer : To start the timer, press V while this display is active. The display will show the amount of time that has passed since the timer was last reset. To stop the timer, press V briefly while this display is active and the timer is running. To reset the timer to zero, press and hold V while this display is active. Oil Life : Displays an estimate of the oil's remaining useful life. If REMAINING OIL LIFE 99% is displayed, that means 99% of the current oil life remains.
