Parking Brake and Automatic Transmission “P” (Park) Mechanism Check


WHAT TO DO


Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing downhill. Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set the parking brake. 0 To check the parking brake: With the engine runriing and transmission in “N” (Neutral),


slowly remove foot pressure from the regular brake pedal. Do this until the vehicle is held by the parking brake only. To check the “P” (Park) mechanism’s holding ability: Shift to “P” (Park). Then release all brakes.


Underbody Flushing


At least every spring, use plain water to flush any corrosive materials from the underbody. Take care to clean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debris can collect.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE


Now and then, make sure all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractots, anchorages and reminder systems are working properly. Look for any loose parts or damage. If you see anything that might keep a restraint system from doing its job, have it repaired. Inspect the front and rear suspension and steering systenl for damaged, loose or missing parts, signs of wear, or lack of lubrication. Inspect the power steering lines and hoses for proper hookup, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc. Inspect the tires for uneven wear or damage. If there is irregular or premature wear, check the wheel alignment. Inspect for damaged wheels. Inspect the complete exhaust system. Inspect the body near the exhaust system. Look for broken, damaged, missing or out-of-position parts as well as open seams, holes, loose connections, or other conditions which could cause a heat build-up in the floor pan or could let exhaust fumes into the vehicle. Check the transmission fluid level; add if needed. See “Manual Transmission” in the Index. A fluid loss may indicate a problem. NOTE: A low brake fluid level can indicate worn disc brake pads which may need to be serviced. API service SH or SG Energy Conserving I1 oils of the proper viscosity. To determine the preferred viscosity for your vehicle’s engine, see “Engine Oil” in the Index. The engine requires a special oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard may be identified as synthetic, and should also be identified as API Service SH. However, not all Synthetic API Service SH oils will meet this GM Standard. You should look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M. 50/50 mixture of water (preferably distilled) and good quality ethylene glycol base antifreeze (GM Part No. 1052753 or equivalent) conforming to GM Specification 1825M or approved recycled coolant conforming to GM Specification 1825M. Your satisfaction and goodwill are important to your dealer and Chevrolet. Normally, any concern with the sales transaction or the operation of your vehicle will be resolved by your dealer’s Sales or Service Departments. Sometimes, however, despite the best intentions of all concerned, misunderstandings can occur. If your concern has not been resolved to your satisfaction, the following steps should be taken: STEP ONE: Discuss your concern with a member of dealership management. Normally, concerns can be quickly resolved at that level. If the matter has already been reviewed with the Sales, Service, or Parts Manager, contact the owner of the dealership or the General Manager. Our experience has shown that, if a situation arises where you feel your concern has not been adequately addressed, the Customer Satisfaction Procedure described'earlier in this section is very successful. There may be instances where an impartial third-party can assist in arriving at a solution to a disagreement regarding vehicle repairs or interpretation of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. in resolving these disagreements Chevrolet voluntarily participates in BBB AUTO LINE. BBB AUTO LINE is an out-of-court program administered by the Better Business Bureau system to settle disputes between customers and automobile manufacturers. The entire dispute resolution procedure should ordinarily take about forty days from the time you file a claim until a decision is made.
