ok guys, i had planned to fix some rust on my car (KE55 Corolla) this week. things started out ok, got a few of the minor spots fixed fine, and then moved on to the bigger parts.

this is where it went to shit. Friend came round and cut out and attached new piece of metal for the panel. Well, lets just say that it looked neater with the rust there. Then came the fibreglass (were a few areas we just couldnt get a piece of metal to fit in). Well, this just didnt go well at all. Firstly, the fibre cloth was just that little bit too short. Then the fibreglass itself refused to set even with enough hardener.

So now i'm stuck with two holes in my car that look worse than the rust did. And, i cant drive it now because its not roadlegal.

So, i'm asking if any fellow boosters are able to assist me repair this dilemma. I will pay anyone who can help, i just need to get this fixed soon. I'm on the southside of brisbane too.

Thanks,

Mike

He said he wanted it fixed sooner rather than months later!

Post some pics of the problems, will make it easier to give remedies.

Had the same rust in Ke70. Maybe the hardener had gone off, I used some old stuff that I had and it wouldn't set on some speaker mounts I made.

considering its only one main section and a small area about 4" x 3" i'd say its far from fucked.

if i wanted a new car i would have asked, but i didnt. so please keep your useless opinions to yourself. thank you. will try and get the pic up this afternoon.

your best bet for a home job like that is. Since your friend made a replacement part for it try to get it to the exact size, if it is bigger then place the piece on from the inside and weld it on, grind down the welds and fibre/bog over it to smooth it out. I did that with some of my old celicas. took practice but I learnt some welding skillz.

ok, here are the photos.

this is the rear quarter panel. you can see what happens when oyu walk away and come back, leaving your friend to do it.

this is the drivers side sill

i know its not that big compared to some others, but when its your first time trying it, things are always difficult.

I will need some better pics aswell. I'll send you an email address to send them to.

I could help you out, but i want to see exactly what is there, and what you have, if you don't have everything, you may need to do a spot of shopping.

I'm on the southside of brisbane, close to the mt gravatt area.

I have bog, fibreglass resin, cloth and catalyst, another fibreglass (more like bog though), bog, orbital sander, paper from 40-400 grit, applicator pads, rust dissolver and spray primer. i think that's everything i can think of.

this rain has not helped at all either.

Shouldn't to much trouble, sent you a PM. Couple of hours i'd say, and it'll be like new.
