Sooooooooo I don't think I'm going to continue with the vinyl wrap.

Not really looking the way I was hoping. sad.gif So if I end up going that way, will be ripping off what's on there and getting it painted.

whats up wiht it dude? does it look worse than in the photo?

dunno why you wouldn't just flat black it in the first place tbh... would have probs been cheaper and less effort.

i dunno, i hear good things about vinyl wrap.. easier to maintain that matte paint apparently, doesn't blemish.also good for keeping original colour i guess

Main reasons were because I wanted something a bit different / unique, plus I liked the fact that I could do it myself (I absolutely HATE painting so I don't think I'd even bother trying). If I were to paint it, it wouldn't be satin black. Would be going for a really nice deep blue. smile.gif

And there's nothing wrong with it as such (apart from a couple of bits I messed up which I'd need to redo), there's just something about it I'm unsure about. Maybe it's the fact it just doesn't have that shine, makes it look more like a 'pig' than 'classy' (if that makes sense?).

ha, not for mine - ripped up a bit to redo it and up came patches of the paint with it sad.gif but modern cars with decent paint then yeah, easy to go back to normal.

If so, leave it there.

Looks fine to me? If you dont mind me asking how much roughly would it take to do the whole car? and is it hard to do? after painting a few cars and a few more to do i wouldnt mind doing this if its easier then painting haha

Depends on condition and what it is. Commercial / Statesman.
A VGC (perfect) pair of rectangular headlights for the commercial's start at around 500-600.

if its a caprice front and you got it without a grill check that it has the trim under the headlights because there not cheap and either is the grill if its a standard wb commercial walk off front including guards bumper and bonnet i woudnt pay more than $500 and that would have to be rust free with out a grill and in a condition

statesman caprice front's are dearer than the deville front's off coarse but be careful the parts that are missing can be expensive to buy as front are worth more in parts than as a whole unit

i usualy sell my front's in parts because i can get around $100 just for the headlight loom on a hz style twin headlight front. troll around some swap meets and you can find the bits easy enough to build a front

Wanna pick up some stuff for me while you're there? This stuff just keeps on adding up. tears.gif
I'll take a hydraboost setup, some new calipers to go with, some new springs and a steeroids package. Cheers!

Picked up the new exhaust today (not that I really had a old one - 2 inches of pipe with some shitty mufflers hanging off the end, haha).

Custom Spin Tech system - 3.5" ceramic coated - fuck yeah for obnoxiously loud cars! hsdance.gif Seems fitting for the car though.

edit: Spin Tech is a company over in the US for those who don't know. See here --> http://www.spintechmufflers.com/
Also countless youtube vids about them.

3000 rpm @ 100kph i think it had an manual diff , as i read on the tags on the , this ute use to be a 6 cyl with a M22, had no idea what a M 22 was so looked it up and its a munchies gear box, what fucking tool removes a gtr xu1 gearbox and engine from a ute, only someone from sydney!

Monaro454
Post #1045

Warney, the ute would not be xu1 running gear mate. tonners had m22's, they are a really low 1st gear for taking off with a full load on the tray that is all. xu1's had M21 boxes as far a I know. if it is a tonner it will more than likely have a 4.44 ratio rear end to compliment the M22 box so will run out of puff really quick after takeoff. stick a set of 3.55's in there and you will be fine with the T400.

nightcrawler
Post #1046

True alot of the the Tonners had the 4.44 ratio diff and M22 gearbox , if it was me I would drop in a 3.36 or 3.08 centre and keep the T400 .

eh-buddy
Post #1047

only the tonners that had 4.44 had m22 most had 3.55 and m20 or 3 speed

well thats two floors done in the eh if anyone's after good floor pans let me know and i point you in the direction off a guy who has the holden presses his pans fit like a glove and there pretty cheap too

Monaro454
Post #1049

cool on doing the floors... sounds like it needs a bit of work eh?

the premier I bought is a nice bit of gear. 12000 miles on the clock and completely original. 202 column auto bench seat deal.

it is dublin green metallic with antique saddle trim with cloth inserts.

I have ordered new carpet from tru-fit with that resomat sound deadener too so that should be here next week. I am getting a white roof painted on getting the grampa shade colour-matched also. will get body sorted with a 2 pac doors-closed respray in same body colour.

will put a pic up later. the doors need a little tlc, and so do the doglegs and one side of the rear quarters. the floor is just perfect and the panels are pretty straight for a 1972 model car. I drove it home from slacks creek on friday in peak traffic and it was just georgeous to drive.... shame really to drop it on it's guts and take that away!!

will have the injected 3.3 in it soon.
