I wrote a nice essay on 'taming the beast' and how the car has destroyed the street it is no longer a place of social interaction. Houses have turned their backs on streets. Streets are no longer watched and become unsafe. All due to the motor vehicle.

I still drive to work but I have my reasons.

I am not talking about the brisbane CBD, or even surfer p'dise, southport etc. I am talking about long sections of road, with a clearly defined bike lane, and mlight to medium traffic density, yet the dopey fuckers CHOOSE to sit right on the white line (closest to traffic) rather than sit in the middle of the bike lane, or even safer still, on the white line furthest away from the vehicles. Yet all these "professional" cyclists have a massive whinge when one of them gets cleaned up by a fucking garbage truck cause the wiggled into the flow of traffic, claiming the truck driver was at fault.

Quite frankly, the government has given them a specific lane for them to ride in............. So stay in your clearly defined bike lane the government provides for free. And if per chance there isn't a marked bike lane, sit to the left, not in the middle of the car lane.

Yeah I don't understand why they'd hug the right line.I always stick right to the left of any lane on my bike. But if the left side is a gutter that can cause problems. Especially if there are drains with grates etc.

I ride a motorbike, so I understand the 3 lanes within any lane thing. The middle of any lane usually is oily, greasy and slippery. Riding here is dangerous. As Dal said, the left side has grates. Riding on the right for cyclists is safest, but there bizarre fascination with hugging that line creeps me out.

I hate cyclists, the are more cocky and dangerous than motorcycle riders.

The bike lane isn't greasy (bicycles dont have engine btw lol) so there is no reason why they can't sit in the centre of thier lane.

On spot on the coast I often have issues doesn't even have a curb on the left. There is about a foot of bitumen on the left of the bike lane, then the bike lane, then the car lane........ yet they still sit on the white line closest to traffic. I simply don't understand why. Surely they can't all be suicidal............. Then again, I probably would be too if I left the house looking the way they do in thier poofta pants.

Pretty much everyone on the road today is a complete fuckwit. Firstly, some twat (number plate 027TJQ) was trying to touch the back of my car with his bullbar while waiting at the lights. Every time I crept forward he'd rev and try and get closer. If the light didn't end up going green the fuckhead would have hit me. This was after he cut across 3 lanes, narrowly missing a camry to get into the turning lane behind me.

Then every second person was driving like a retard under the speed limit, acting like a tuffcunt with their arm hanging out the window and trying to race or cut me off as soon as I try to get around them. Most of them in piece of shit utes. Seriously what is with tradies thinking their shitty little 2wd, petrol, thrashed out workhorses with a couple hundred kg's of shit in the back are quick? Even my tradie mates are the same. Is it part of the job or something?

I do however agree with you that alot of people do use the bike lane when they shouldn't, and thats not cool. What really surprises me is that the cyclists so often don't pay the extra attention required to stay safe.

I never ride a bike these days, but if i did I would do whatever i had to in order to stay safe.

Whilst I tend to agree most of the time, do bare in mind that the "keep left unless overtaking" law only applies in speed zones ABOVE 80. Any zone 80k or less it is simply courtesy.

If people being in the right lane is such a hassle for you move to NSW
It it very, very heavily enforced there. Infact itis so heavily enforced there that rape is pretty much gaurenteed for travelling in the right lane.
