hsdance.gif that's good news then, does anyone know anywhere i could print off some legal bullshit to flash to the cops if they ask about this?

and thanks for contributing everyone

A highway patrol car pulled me over once and asked if I had it engineered I showed them my engineer papers; which I carried in the glove compartment and then they inspected my mod plate.

The mod plate is more important as it's specifically for your vehicle where as your papers could be for anything, however I carried it around to provide a bit of additional information to the police if they asked.

Why more people don't get their cars engineered is beyond me as you save yourself having to go to DOT who will do you for everything in the book which they know back to front. It will end up a hell of a lot more expensive as well compared to engineering your modifications.

i have gutted the rear half of my 32 seats, seatbelts, sound deadening, trims just havent got around to mod plating it anyone no a rough price for mod plate and do u have to pay more for informing Queensland trasport of the changes?

i payed $120 for a dude to come to my house and do it. dunno what to do in regards to telling qld transport coz i got mine registered at the same time. the modplate guy submits a copy of the report/paprwork bit so i dunno if its done then or if you gotta go in and tell them also.

Why do it? How much weight will you save? 10 kilo's?

I did it to my first S13, when i was carrying everything from the car into my garage i thought what was the point of that, it weighed nothing.

You can't just silicone the rear seat belt holes up, they need to be permanently filled (ie. bolt in and then welded).

Yeah I was thinking this also. Is it worth the hassle for the little weight it saves?? I would rather keep my seats have the availability of seating 5 and not getting defected..

Haha i first took my back seats out because i was sick of mates asking for a lift or to take them driving...... lol but seriously, if you strip the interior out properly (including sound deadener), it is surprising how much weight you do actually remove.

It is not hard to get mod plated, provided everything to do with the rear seats/seat belts are removed. and if your fuel filler or fuel system is in the boot compartment it must be completely sealed off from the cabin.

I did it in my s13, gutted the passenger seat, back seat, took the sub/amp out, spare tyre and didnt even notice a difference! lol

The way I look at it with my 32 is that it's going to cost too much to get clean as I'd like.

So I'm going to strip everything that I don't need smile.gif

I'm just hoping it doesnt look too funny because it's a 4 door, but ohwell, we'll soon find out!

Stripped out my I'd cRx, removed all sound deadner, all plastics behind front seats all carpets, all air con, all stereo, half the dash removed, big rubber mat thing on inside of firewall, got to the point where you could see the engine through the firewall removed at least 100kg from the car and made a noticeable difference and never had a problem with the po po for it

I pulled out all my leather trim and rear seats for the sole purpose of filling the space with tyres and tools. If you reg it as a two seater all the seatbelts in the rear MUST be removed.

Qustion: I have a about 5 modplates with multiple codes, however most of the engineering documents have gone/been lost. Is there a way of Getting new paperwork done up without new modplates?

+1 for doing it to fit more tyres in! Can fit bugger all in a 4door 32 with a cage and back seats in sad.gif

yer i asked the same question about getting details for mods done. the rookie rox dude said the modplate guys need to keep the details of the mods done for 7 years or something so youd be able to get it from them if they were done within that time. use the issuer code from the plate to find out who the dude was that did them and call em up. might have to go to d.o.t to match the issuer code to the company that did the plates

could put my 6x9's in there and take out the parcel tray...

waaiiiittt... what?

why go to all the effort of removing the rear seat and then put in some of the heaviest speakers that you can get?

and yes, I realise speakers dont weight that much - but realistically, neither does the seat unless you're going all out

That's why you have two cars!

What about cars than only have 2 seats to begin with?

If you need to take someone to the hospital in an emergency, you could do so. You just can't drive them back, as it is no longer an emergency.

Why do it?

A. If thats all you're doing..... dont.

But if you get light weight wheels

get rid of carpets, spare wheel back seat, carbon bonnet, door, boot, lexcen glass, blah blah blah

it helps, and depending on what you want to do depends on the extent you can get out of them

from getting the weight of 1 or 2 or more people out of your car by stripping it in something like a 180sx, to getting 3-500kg out of a supra.

it helps

Car that won Superlap NZ was a treuno with lexcen 'windows' no interior lightweight everything.

Mark berry;s 34gtr's dash weighs 1.1kg.

obviously they are the extreme, but it all helps

I put a half cage in so got rid of back seat. All engineered cost $110. QLD transport does not cost anything.

i want to do this to my sprinter when i go on my p's, there is really no point of having my back seats/carpet/othershit unless you weigh 20kilos and are 150cm tall or less......

Sorry to bump this thread as I know it's a few weeks old, but I'm after just a quick list of what I need to do to make it legal.

Like, seatbelts NEED to come out? etc etc.

I'm sure it says through this thread what's needed but I'm after some cliff notes smile.gif

I'd talk to somebody who is going to do the mod plating, but as far as I know all seatbelt mounting points need to be permanently filled and if you have any sort of fuel setup in the boot, it must be completely sealed from the cabin (unless it's something like a hatch). Personally I'd just rivet a sheet of alloy in where the seat was to seal the boot off.

You can strip absolutely everything but dash (although you can take it out and get one made up custom) and front door trims. Everything else (carpet, plastic trim, roof lining, sound deadener) can be chucked in the bin or sold.

So im confused, P Platers arent allowed mod plates for engine mods but are for removing seats? When I wanted to do this with the Laurel I called Queensland Transport and the girly gave me a big "No! No mod plates at all!" followed by an evil snarl.

You can't have mod plate for engine work. Mod plate to remove back seats is ok.

Just make sure it gets registered as a 2 seater.

really?... yes power to weight is everything for sure.. but a few other things go into concept aswell..

a guy with a R32 on the Golfmkv forums took out his rear seats+spare & tools and weighed his car.. nearly 100KG's difference!!
