Hey Guys,

The following people ran Excels at Lakeside yesterday and because they entered at the control tower instead of through the Track Attack website they are not accumulating series points towards the championship.

Gino Goodall
Nathan Crosthwaite
Cameron Bankourski
Shaun Clark
Jeff Loh

If you dont enter every event through Track Attack then you are not part of the official Excel Series.

Cheers Jeff

finally got my camber bolts from the states today. I installed 1 as a test, I started with 1 degree camber and after the first set I got 2.5. So if you install them top and bottom I cant see why you would not get 4 degrees plus.

PM if your keen on a set, bare in mind they take about 2 weeks to get here. ( I might see how much extra for express postage)

ill take a set.. how much are they?? anyone else keen to get in on a group buy to sav on postage??

i just ordered a set through ebay usa. only cost about $32AU posted. see what happens

jeff, is it possible to maybe have a mt cotton hillclimb day? on your site it mentions no upcoming events. i think this would be an awesome day for "sprints" as only 1 car at a time is on the track? eliminate any theory of 'sprint - races'

trackattack
Post #901

We did a hillclimb at Mt Cotton a few months ago and it was a great day.
At this stage the only thing stopping me organising another day there is the CAMS insurance.
If you guys are all willing to join car clubs, getting cams licenses and getting your cars cams compliant then its no problems for me to organise another Track Attack day there

how many are prepared to meet the cams requirements ?

if there's that much hassle and cost, then i won't bother :) im happy with lakeside/qr :)

If we can organise day licenses again it might not be too bad,
Probably $100 odd dollars plus the day license cost about $30
You would also need a fire extinguisher in the car

If we limit it to about 70 cars should get 6+ runs in the day.

To do circuit racing (over the sprints) you basically need to be cams compliant anyway, and its not a whole lot more to do really.

I'd be keen to run mt cotton again, and as you can double/tripe enter it easily all of us would get a fair few laps.
Jeff, you were talking about trying to run it under AASA? is that still a option? otherwise CAMS is fine, I've got my licence for it so may as well use it at least once....

The issue is for the guys with roll cages, the ones who ahev pulled dashes out and a few other issues.

Knowing MGCCQ I doubt they would run it under AASA but who knows. To do the circuit racing there is a difference between AASA and CAMS. Under CAMS if your car has a cage you then need to get that cage passed and you have to have the vehicle log booked so you are looking at a few hundred to do that assuming the car passes requirements.

trackattack
Post #911

yes MGCCQ want us to use CAMS, thats the only thing stopping me holding a couple more hillclimbs there this year.

Because CAMS treat every event as top level the requirements are much stricter.
The AASA events that we are involved with are at the fun / entry level which makes things easier.
If you go run QRDC under AASA you will find that the requirements are also stricter.

DASHBOARD SAFETY

Hey Guys,

I want to address the dashboards again.
Talking to the guys from QR again today and we still have safety concerns about the dashes that have been removed.
The fact that you are competing in motorsport doesn't mean that the cars can be less safe,
In many ways they need to be more safe than for road use.

We have allowed replacement dashes to be manufactured and used where you are unable to find a replacement dash.
The manufactures dashes must be approved, so far no one has asked for approval.
And further to the above original dashes are still available at a reasonable cost.

I have spoken to John at Allbrand Wrecking today 3881 1550
He will provide used dashes suitable for race cars at a discounted price for the Excel series cars.
X3 $100 and X2 $50.00

In all honesty its going to be easier and cheaper to replace the original ADR compliant dash than to try to manufacture something new.
Its certainly better than the QR guys telling you that you cant race as the car isnt safe.
And it may affect your standing in the series points, other competitors who are running their dashes will complain about cars that dont have dashes the dashless cars will be relegated to the other class.

Thanks Jeff
Track Attack

I'm ringing him tomorrow.

After trying to make one out of ally and fibre glass, getting a used one is a pleasure.

a standard excel dash is probably more dangerous i think foam is a much better idea and safer all Hyundai dashes are fucked and brittle

NISMOgemini
Post #915

its not for impact.. so brittle doesn't mater.. as your held in by a harness/belt.. its for your limbs that are flinging around the cabin.. to prevent them slaping up against shit behind the dash

trackattack
Post #916

Part of the reason that I keep harping on about the Dashes is Liability.
The original dash and facing is ADR approved, which means that somebody else is responsible for its design.

TYRE SPONSORSHIP DEAL

Track Attack has negotiated a Sponsorship deal with Federal Tyres.
The tyres rules for the Excel Sprints will remain the same with the exception that the KU36 & Federal RSR will be removed from the approved list as treadwear rating is less than 200. So you can still run any road tyre with a treadwear rating above 200 UTQG

If your currently running the KU36 or RSR you will be allowed to wear those tyres out so that you are not put to unnecessary hardship.

The Control Tyre for the Circuit Racing will be the Federal FD595 (Drift Competition). We are able to get this tyre in a number of sizes to suit the Excels see the link below for pricing details. The FD595 was developed for drifting so it's tough, grippy and long lasting.

We have also negotiated special pricing on the Federal Hero HZ1 which is a well priced long lasting tyre that can be used for the sprints.

For Special Pricing for Track Attack Sprints and Racing participants follow the link below. The pricing shown for the sponsored tyres is for tyres purchased through Track Attack and will not be available at normal tyre outlets.

Pricing shown on the Federal Tyres includes delivery to one of our nominated tyre shops, or metro delivery to Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast or Rockhampton to an address where somebody will be available to sign for receipt.

Our nominated tyre shops will fit and balance your tyres for $15.oo each.
We have also negotiated for fitting at Qld Raceway, QR will fit or rotate up to 4 tyres for $40.00

Full Federal Motorsport Tyre range is also available, contact me for special pricing if we dont have your tyre size listed.

OMG yes Yes YES YES
Umm, I mean, sure I'd love to have a drive on that. I can see a few configurations that would be ALOT of fun.

I've looked at the mt cotton driver training track too and wished they would allow racing on it :\

Also Great news about the tyres. Assume Federal have a windscreen banner or some other promo/advertising stuff they would give us?

trackattack
Post #924

I spoke to them last year, but at the time I didnt have the driver base to get the numbers to be able to do it.
This year I reckon we could make it work.

Only real issue is noise, I think they were chasing 65 decibels at their boundary.
so we are talking Lakeside requirements or a bit quieter.

nice work jeff on the tires.. ill be getting them for mine once im back from holidays and actually have an exel ready to build :)

Nice work on the tyre deal Jeff.
Well priced, interested to see if they give better grip level than the tyre being used at the moment.

the ability for a few configurations certainly is good.

what would be good in this series are some left hand turns :) there's only 1 at lakeside and a couple at QR (depending on which track)
everything else is right hand turns...(lefthand side tyre wear!)

Mine is a single.

HEY STEVE,

What issues did you guys have with scrutineering for the circuit racing.
I seem to remember you mentioning tow hooks ?????
anything else ?

Thanks Jeff

wasas
Post #930

Tow hooks needed to be proper ones, not just the tie down points we were going to use. - they let it slide, but said we have the possibly of ripping it straight off. I dont see how as the car is ~850kg, unless they go full throttle trying to pull us out of the sand.
Roll cage - wanted 6pt. as they said will allow 4pt for top gun circuit.
we were a little worried about a secondary bonnet tie down, but we didn't mention it. have purchased flush mounts for secondary pins now but still need to get them installed. the stock bonnet has a 2 mech lock so I think they will let it pass.
we made sure we had a second throttle spring, and all our gear was new and sorted.
apart from the looks and comments about it being pretty stock we had a ball :)

But tow hooks and cage were the main sticking points.
And after that roll over on sunday with no cage it should prove they are strong enough if SOMEHOW you manage to flip it.
