hey all Excel Drivers, SWAY BARS
i have been in chats with jeff about the bars we can use as i already went out and got mine i have a nice new 18mm on the rear but was told by whiteline they only made a 22mm solid to replace the orig 22mm hollow front bar which they no longer make due to lack of sales(bad timing for them), and jeff is talking about staying with 18mm on the fronts as well, but i think there would not be any benifit, not that i think a supplier will make anything less than a 22mm sports bar, we need to know what others think and know about Excel front sway bar and do you want 22mm front solids or search for 18mm bars or stick with the standard.
Dave

Dunno why you'd even bother upgrading the front sway. A 22mm solid bar is just going to make it understeer.

Having finally given ours a good flogging on decent tyres over the weekend, it's surprisingly neutral at the limit and we're not in any real hurry to get a RSB.

Who do I contact to arrange for purchasing and fitting at QR. Have the day off on Tuesday so could do it then

To buy Talons go here - http://www.trackattack.com.au/talon
takes about 3 days to get them into stock

RE the fuel cell.
I would prefer to not modify the existing fuel system unless its a safety upgrade.
I thought you were trying to keep the budget in check, fuel cells wont be cheap.

The reason I asked about the fuel cell is that I might be able to get a few ally cells made to fit in the spare wheel area!!! But happy to keep the original tank.

IMO: no need. just another expense for 1/1000 of a second.

If you fit the fuel tank inside the cabin you will need to have fire separation between the tank and the driver.
not worth the hassle.

Are any of these shitboxes coming to Carnell this weekend :oopsie:? I hope so, would like someone to give Adam a hurry-up in his Toyota Trueno!

If I can get mine sorted good enough to be safe I will bring it up, otherwise its the datsun.
Speaking of the datsun I found the problem from the weekend, stupid bloody ball valves causing overboosting !!!!

No other excels have signed up, here is my current list
http://www.trackattack.com.au/2010/index.p...t&Itemid=61
plus 4 Mini's
and about 15 or 20 VW's.

Also available Compomotive 6 spoke wheels
15x8 + 10 offset - $150.00 each, waiting on confirmation on the PCD

are these available in 4x100 aswell??

X3man
Post #769

Has anyone actually tried to fit a set of 7 or 8" wide rims to a lowered Excel. Especially in those offsets.
I have 6.5" rims in +40 offset (which offsets the rims 40mm closer to the car from the center line of the rim)and the guards needed quite a bit of pumping to make room.

wasas
Post #770

15*6.5 @ 35+ works for us. we are still getting some rub on the back wheels with 205's... they bulge a litte. I guess 15*7's would be the pick

X3man
Post #771

Yeah +35's not so bad in a 6.5"
But +10's are going to be another 25mm futher out than yours, plus with a 7" rim add 6.35mm and the an 8" rim add another 12.7mm further out.
Even though my semi's would have a thicker side wall than road tyres, i think you'l find it tough fitting +10's under the standard body work.

You could have made it, standard silvia's

Who play's with excels?

well when the market comes to terms that paying through the nose for something thats worth as much as a hyundai excel they will be an abundance of cheap silvias/180s to go around and make a race series of....

I think people are missing the point of this, a race series that will cost you less than 2k to run in and will show who can drive and who cant... if I wasnt moving to Melb Id be all over this like a rash.

Well done guys, for the ones who get into it will be a heap of fun

I have 2 x spring packages available.

Kings Low Package - $340.00
* Front Springs KHFL-114 x 2
* Rear Springs KHFL-124 x 2

or our Track Attack Special Pack that we are running on our car - $440.00
(The spring codes are a secret....shhhh)

I also have a shock package
Boges BO32 and 27 - $ 190.00 each ($760 for 4)
(basically aftermarket BMW)
I know there are a heap of options,
but we figured the Boges were a good shock without going top of the line.

Rear Swaybar $195 as mentioned before.

Cheers Jeff

OK OK OK

Kings Lowered spring kit
front = 160
rear = 150

TA front = 40% stiffer
TA rear = 60% stiffer

We can get Kings or Pedders, whatever floats your boat.

should work nicely :)

They are a combination of springs off other cars that I have spent a bit of time researching and seem to be the best that I could come up with.
Its cheating to get custom springs made, but if you can buy a spring of another car that fits its all good !

I am hoping to have them in the car for the next sprint at Lakeside

X3man
Post #783

Trackattack, talk to Chris Tarrent at King Springs they will make custom springs for $170 a pair.
I know your rules say no custom springs, but it might be an option to improve the series next year.
Besides who can tell if the springs are the ones to suit the front of a 77 Chysler Galant, N15 Pulsar or custom ones.

I want royalities, another great idea of mine light car with heavy car springs. Jeff had given a big clue what they come off it has to be common is commodore. and if you get the ultra lows you can drop it on its nuts

Now I have shared alignment setting, whats the go? Iam thinking

As much camber and caster as you can muster( minimum 3 on the front but 5 would be better) I have got 2.5 from stock equipment I will run camber bolts in both top and bottom hole on the front, should get close to the 5)
3degree toe out front
2 degree toe out rear (is this possable)

I am waiting on my camber bolts from the US, if they are all good I will be able to supply a set of 4 for $50

finaly got me a cheep excel that im going to try and have ready for next year but b4 i start working on it i just wanna know are the rules going to change from this year to next year. its just i dont wanna go spending the money on sumthing to find a better option next year???

WET_33
Post #786

sorry the above post was mine not xr8 5.0, we both use same computer

trackattack
Post #787

At this stage I wouldn't envisage any major changes.
If any changes come in that adversely affect performance there would be an amnesty period.

One of the big advantages of the Excel's is that you can start by doing sprints with a stock standard car and then do the mods as you gain experience. Spread the cost out over 12 months if you want.
