$100 spark plugs WTF - iridium ?
cant you get copper plugs to suit ?
I run coppers in my turbo car, I assume you can get them for an old Excel

I think there should be a cost factor applied to the points system. There should be an inverse factor applied to the amount spent and the place achieved therefore the more you spend the more you are penalised......... cos then I'll win everything!!!!

So far I have spent $104.95!!!

Car = free (have a sponsor)
Seat = $60
Wheels =$30
exhaust =$14.95
Labour, blood, sweat and tears = free (until "she who must be obeyed" expects compensation for the amount of time I spend in the shed)

Still needed:-

Tyres x2 = +/- $200 (who sells the Achilles??)
cage = DIY (getting the steel this weekend)
Harness = free
Springs = $200 which is better Pedders or King??
Shocks = $200 approx
Pod filter = $15 off the Repco tomorrow
Dry ice = $30
Trailer = $750
Respray = Free (have a sponsor!!!!)

Therefore total on track cost including trailer is likely to be around $1500 - 1800 woo hoo!!!! Without the trailer under a grand!!! Now thats what I call budget racing!!!!

how the hell did you get a sponsor for excel sprint series that has only just started?

Got any other free/cheap cars laying around?

Post #549

I have another as spares but it is a 1993 X2 auto!!!! and the motor is a bit old but it is being rebuilt for next year when I get to do the whole series!!!!

And I actually have 3 sponsors!!!! Just business friends/acquaintences who are willing to help out.

iv always avoided pedders

whys that???

If your buying the off the shelf lowered springs for a hyundai excel
AFAIK
the pedders front is stiffer than the kings front
and the kings rear is stiffer than the pedders rear

looking at the rules, are you allowed to port and/or polish the head and manifolds?

Nope.
we are trying to keep costs down, so no engine modifications allowed.

-==L=a=N=c=E==-
Post #560

no worries, maybe worth clarifying that in the rules?

so what i infer, is exhaust is free except for manifold (and noise limitations), intake is free except for manifold. engine mods are limited to those that can be done without opening the engine (so something like advancing the ignition timing would be about it, leaning off the fuel with a fuel reg), no wiring mods allowed (so using resistors on temp sensors and the like are frowned on)

yes?

trackattack
Post #561

unless port and polish came factory then its not stock
adding a resistor to a temp sensor is altering the engine wiring loom

I dont really want to have to make the rules overly complicated and nail down every little item.
The general intent is have a stock driveline that is cheap.

comin Richard, ditch the rx7 and come racing

I have proved time and time again you makemore power with cheap spark plugs than with expensive however they dont last very long is all.

will have deatils on Monday but I think I have stumbled across the holy grail for cheap suspension upgrade for the excel :thumbsup:

tip look for a realy heavy car grab the spring and put them in a light car instant race suspension excel style, also hoping for about a 70mm drop in ride height

-==L=a=N=c=E==-
Post #563

nah keeping the rx7 for now :thumbsup:

all good, i get the point of the race series, all cheap fun!

The problem is your dampers won't be upto the task.

Post #566

so you should be allowed to change from p/steer to manual steer as i know its not alot of extra power but every little bit helps

trackattack
Post #567

yes you are allowed to remove the power steering if you want.
You are also allowed to install the factory power steering if you want it and dont have it.

Well done !
I don't think that my car will be ready for this weekend so I will probably be in the Datsun this Sunday.
