hey, which races are part of the excel series? everything one listed (inc qld raceway) on the trackattack website?

it would be good to get an idea of what races include "championship points"

at this stage we are running a separate point score for each circuit .

just after some free knowledge (rather than spending heaps to find out it dont fit!)

tyres - have 14' mags at the moment, good offset etc... want to buy new ones at least the front, any good ones for 14's? and good widths without fouling on bits?
other than that, if we go 15's, whats the best offset possible and tyre width combo?

i dont want to go too crazy on it all, but just something simple.
currently running 185/60/14's.

ku36's are only avail in 15's - is there any other brands which have 14's??

wasas
Post #413

dont know about the 14's but
for 15's you want a 6/6.5" rim, with a 35 offset, running 195/50/15's.
i guess a 205/50/15 would fit as well.

15" rubber for that is easy to find. 14's i got nfi

Beannie
Post #414

yeah i know - i'd much prefer a 15, but then i have to buy rims AND tyres...

thought i would make do with the 14's to start with - and can develop it as time goes on. however, 14's seem a little difficult unless i go with plain ol cheapy ones.

any one got any tips on suspension

I was thinking on getting low king springs and cutting another 30mm of the ride height, I have non conical spring in my excel

I might hit the wreckers on the weekend and see what else has the same diameter spring, I reckon the rears from a commodore would be close

trackattack
Post #416

one of the nissan front sprints is the same diameter, but higher...... bugger cant remember which one the guys said it was now.... pintara I think.

Do not cut your springs!

Eibach have a sale on at the moment for 94-96 springs, which are the ones that fit your ride. and what ever u do, dont cut the springs.

As for rubber i guess a 185/195 60-55 14 would work.

But it is a perfect way to triple your spring rate, wreck the progressive rate and give yourself a shit product

I think you need to take about 60mm of the std ride height of an excel, however there is no manufacture that makes them off the shelf at that height for the excel.

To the nissan section I will head first at the wreckers

Stupid Question please answer ( or not ) ---->> My mate is keen in racing his excel however 3 weeks ago he lost his license ( Not in his Hyundai LOL ). Do you need to show an official drivers license to be able to race out on the track??

you dont need a drivers licence you need to purchase a AASA licence

A-frames require the mountings on the car to be permanently mounted and engineered, and the available one for the Excels are HUGE and come out below the front bar!!!

I looked at the idea and also a tow dolly where the front wheels sit on a mini trailer but there may be some issue with an unregistered vehicle having its rear wheels on the road!!!! I am waiting for formal confirmation either way from Qld Transport. When I get the answer I will post it.

How much are the AASA licenses??

wasas
Post #428

210 for aasa for the year for circuit, sprints only is 55.

Also, request for springs (good for only SOHC x3's eg 94-6/97 ):

I would like a beer in compensation :)

I'm in a similar position right now, no lic but you can drive the track on a track licence, so as long as u can get the car there your sorted.

As for car transport, just keep it road reg :) none of our crew have a trailer/towbar, or anything to tow it with, so we bit the bullet and are keeping it on the road.

yeah my next question was "does the car being towed need to be registered..
might be the excuse iv been looking for to buy a trailer

Does the car being towed need to be registered ......... I had the same question and looking through the Transport legislation it appears to be an offence to drive or TOW and unregistered vehicle on a Qld road!!!!! That was why I asked the question of QLD Transport.

Looks like I may be going the trailer route as well.

Just got back from looking at my FREE Excel!!!! Mechanically good but cosmetically a bit stuffed, but hey it free, OH and it's an X1 so looks like there may be 2 of us!!!!

Beannie
Post #432

dont think it would it be illegal to tow, on a trailer, an unregistered car...

thats just silly.

On a trailer yer it's fine, but on an A-frame things are a bit different.

Hey Beanie... you are right. But with an a-frame and a dolly trailer the car or part of it is on the road. If its on a trailer, it is not on the road.... the trailer is.

Hey. what model is a 93 Excel??? X1 or X2 . It is the square shape and has fuel injection.

Need to know so I can see what King Springs are available.

Do we need to keep the original head lights?? The head lights on the one I got are broken. So I was thinking of replacing them with aliminium or fibreglass panels of the same shape rather than trying to buy new ones.

Beannie

no body mods are allowed, so i would assume you would have to keep standard headlights in there??
