Wasas

So a 98 with 187k needing a new water pump for $500 is a good deal?? Actually looks too good to strip out though!!! Body is in really good condition and interior is spotless.

Any wreckers buying the interiors from those that have stripped theirs out???

I'd say thats a good deal. if your handy with a spanner the pump is 60, and about 3hrs of work. there is a guide someone on replacing one. You could try and sell the bits on ebay but i doubt you'll get much. never know tho.

yes, if you let me know what numbers you want I will put your name against it in the numbers register - www.trackattack.com.au/excel

It depends how you enter the car,
If you single enter the car and have a seperate driver for each event you will only need one number
If you single enter the car and share one entry then the time keepers will only want you to have one number, they wont care who is driving.

You can can also double or triple enter the car and run it in two or three separate groups.
they have numbers at the track that can be taped to the side of the car if extra ones are needed on the day.

sounds like an excellent deal to me
I started the water pump on mine last night, hoping to finish it tonight/tomorrow morning if i get time.
I am doing the timing belt as well while i am at it.
so far its been fairly straight forward, just a lot of stuff to unbolt to get to the stuff underneath.

I sold the towbar of mine for $65 on ebay, so parts can be sold,
I reckon that the seats would be salable if they are in pristine condition.
Try some of the Hyundai forums.

Looks like I just got myself 2 1994 Excels for FREE!!!!

Is the 94 the first of the rounded shape?

trackattack
Post #346

LOL I love it !
yeah the rounded shape x3 first came out in 94.
dont worry if they are the last of the old shape ones as they weigh the same and still have the fuel injected engine

We can do the exhaust if you like wasas, should be fairly cheap if you just want it press bent rather than mandrel bent.

There is a 98 twin cam available on gumtree.com.au with the asking price of $500 however he will take less as he is moving interstate and there are a few problems with the motor. It looks like it has blown a head gasket but other than that it seems ok. so if there is anyone looking for 1 and can swing a spanner this could be yours for about $300 (I was going to buy it until the free offer came up!!!)

The guys name is Mo-Zee and his no is 0411293316.

Hopefully this get anothe Excel on the track.

Another question - if I was to build my own roll cage where could I get the tube from, and what type of steel is it and what sizes??? (just realised this is actually 3 questions!!!)

Jeff, ment to ask whats the go with multiple drivers for one car? we had a shitfight with the people on the track and ended up emptying our wallets so we could all have a go.
would like to know how it works for next time out there so we can at least get the vasoline out this time.

trackattack
Post #362

apparently they now want an additional time keepers admin fee when 2 or more drivers share the same car on the same day under one entry fee.

It came as a surprise to me as i had not heard of this before, doesnt make sense, but we are stuck with it for now.
2 separate entries in the same car do not attract the any additional costs.

sorry about the confusion, the first I had heard of this was today.

Pretty sure all of the Excels held up with no problems.
fastest excel was 68.11 - pretty quick, especially on road tyres.

looks like it was a good day. 11 is an excellent turnout

would you be able to do a capacity series like say 85-95 1.3-1.5 im sure there would be heaps of interest there and not much power difference between models

wasas
Post #370

they will most likely be broken down into other groups once there is enough. hell, I want to push for a road reg'd circuit class :bowrofl: we cant shed as much weight as others...

As for reliable, well ours was bouncing off the limiter (opps) a fair few times and we still drove it home. no over heating issues, no braking issue, nothing went pop or bang. they seem pretty solid.

was the 68.11 the one running a little rich and lumpy?
