Paul is on board to build the cages ,no worries.
cages are only required for the circuit racing, not the sprinting.

This sounds like a bloody fantastic idea! I'll be watching this and hopefully get into it later in the year, or next year if its on again!

Wonder if mum will let me borrow her excel....

Stripped the car yesterday, did the air intake, spark plugs, oil......get onto the exhaust and suspension and we should be almost there. Couldn't believe it when it spun in first and second

If this list is correct excel is PCD 114.3
so this is your mag wheel guide

PRELUDE 1992 ON 4 X 114.3

They have the same stud pattern but are proving a bitch to get on. Centre hole isn't quite wide enough so needs a bit of work.

TRACKATTACK.

most of those wheels wont fit, as the center bore of the rim would be to small for it to fit over the hub on the excel. thats for factory mags and steel wheels. after market wheels shouldnt be a be a problem.

excels seem to have much larger hubs then other small cars.

nodrog
Post #246

The centre bore needs to be 67.1 mm. About the only other company that has this size is Mitsubishi.

OK, list deleted to avoid confusion.

Circuit missles !!! :P

But seriously, it's a great way to get out and learn some race craft, just hope the engines hold up for a season :D

++ Spot on, totally agree, I think the clutch would be first to go :(

any chance of bumping the wheel size upto 16" there is alot more choice

wasas
Post #254

basically the best value for money rubber thats allowed right now is the KU36, at about 120/corner. in the 16" its more expensive and I dont see the point. most people will want to run the best tyre for the competaitve edge, so by making it a 205/50/15 it'll basically be a control tyre

As for storage, ours is going to find a home on the street with the dizzy or something similar removed. not like your too worried about paint fade..

i think this is a really good idea.....if anyone needs a hand let me know.....dont think ill have time or money this year to get one going

How are you guys planning to transport these?
I'm not liking the look of an extra $100 for a trailer ontop on entry fee's.

I reckon keep them registered will be the cheapest option if you dont own a car trailer.
I drove my Datsun to race meetings for years before getting a trailer.

thanks for posting that benno... least its not a full blown mug shot!
and yes, keep it road reg is easy. mod plate for seats (eg 2 seater) and a cage is about $200. rego for 6 months is 500.
drive it for 2 years and its still cheaper that a trailer.

I think alot of people will be suprised when they cant drive home. I think this series will be like the HQ's. There is only 1 car that had a straight panel at the of the day and he had pole position and stayed out in front when everyone was rubbing behind him.

rubbing is racing

I'd like to think it'll be a little bit more gentlemanly than that.... but a few bumps are to be expected.

Just so you guys know, sprints arn't "races" in that you're not racing other cars you're simply trying to get the best possible timed lap. Your position doesn't matter in a sprint however in the actual races (CAMS approved etc..) then your position means something.

Big_Red_
Post #264

Has anyone actually fitted 205 wide x 15 inch on their car? I had a look then and clearence on the suspension / steering components looks very tight. :(

Did you read the thread? There was mention of both sprints and 'races'. The later referring to actual races under AASA rules.
