QUOTE(DAL32 @ Sep 22 2008, 02:56 PM) You know, you could make a fast car by just fucking off the VVL altogether and running 280deg cams! I'm sure the Nissan engineers know what they are doing... a Honda VTEC kicks in (yo) at 5800, redline usually maybe 8200 or 8500 in stock form (?). So if the VVL kicks in at around the same RPM then it would have the same driveability as the Honda. Increasing the duration of the low cam will just make the car slightly faster and adjust the low end powerband. A lot of companies make 'VTEC killer' cams like this for race use in hondas. It isn't a good idea to use them on street driven cars unless you like to fill up on fuel every day. QUOTE(DAL32 @ Sep 22 2008, 02:56 PM) Obviously the 200deg low cam is a good duration for making max power before the cams switch over, which is why changing the "kick in" point is a dumb idea unless you've built the engine to a certain spec with certain cams. And this is why i always want to slap ppl who install vtec controllers on stock as a rock engines expecting to get a massive power boost but instead sap most of the low-mid range power out of their car. The car is manufactured like that for a reason. It's not like they blindfolded an engineer and played pin the crossover on the rev range... |

Continuing on from the above conversation - I had a chat to Rookie, The tomei engine i am looking at for my s15 which is a fully worked from the ground up SR20DE with forged internals, conrods etc It will be running quad ITB's and Tomei Poncams which, a setup of that caliber will require an aftermarket ECU. |

QUOTE(decoyslikecurves @ Sep 22 2008, 06:29 PM) What the hell is "street cred" anyway? Is it when you pull into a carpark and all the losers with civics with 28" chrome wheels and robot stickers down the sides nod at you? I know a guy with a toyota yaris that would outdrive 99% of people on this site on a track. Thats what I call credibility. I've always had a bit of trouble understanding the concept of street cred. Who the fuck gives a shit what a bunch of 17 year old bape jacket and flat brimmed cap kids think about your car?!?! People on this site giving me shit because I apparently bought my car for some sort of image or social crutch when they mostly likely bought their S13 because the kids in their class at school idolise the S13 because it was their first damn car in "Gran Turismo". |

Was taking the piss out of "chilli_eater" attempting to sell a 21 year old BMW for $6k Alfa 156 V6 2.5 manual, if you can find one are pretty cheap these days and far better value than a BMW not to mention aren't driven by every lebbo in the country. EDIT: And add 147/156 GTA which were mentioned previously but weren't added for some reason. They aren't any more expensive than the other expensive cars in the list like S2000. I would seriously rate any modern Alfa with the likes of the "sporty" BMWs (318is/325is) - they cost about the same for a much later model Alfa because of the shitty resale. Also: Peugeot 206 GTi/GTi 180. |

Yeah, i was basically referring to the lemon part, since i'd think most p platers would rather something reliable. |

Reliability is what you'll sometimes pay for a bit of character and a stock car that is actually exciting to drive and is not a souped up version of a whitegoods car that still drives like a fridge - just faster. That being said, I prefer my 2 litre Alfa to a 206 GTi any day, the Pug was a lot harder to drive with the stupid pedal placement, and still doesn't have the same steering response as the Alfa does. Not to mention the Pug I drove wasn't that fast For something with the same power and 150kg less I was expecting far more. |

i think my Black 2005 VZ station wagon is pretty cool for a P-Plater, got lots of boot space for surfing trips and more than enough room to sleep in after a night on the turps. Bought it all with my own $$ which I'm also pretty proud of. Only bad bit is it's turning circle...man im getting sick of 10 billion point turns... |

here's a few more affordable P platers, but still not too bad: (because not everyone gets bought s2000's  QUOTE(DAL32 @ Sep 19 2008, 10:08 PM) You don't have to mod plate cams. So they're P plate Legal. Fuck yeah. In fact, you don't have to mod plate most N/A engine mods. As the engine from the outside remains untouched, it's not like a turbo car where usually modified ones stick out like dogs balls with chrome pipes and hectic valves everywhere. brap brap brap ps. dont get a rotor as a p-plater |
