k guys have a question

ive asked a few people already and im still thinking wat i should do

im currently running castrol edge 10w60 i think

and been way too long since my last change since i didnt drive the car for near 10ish months and its either burning oil or using it somehow as there is no leaks since we last looked up on the hoist at work

coz we put new cam seals crank seal and both valve cover gaskets as their was a big leak at the back section

anyways my cars just creeped over the 172k mark (sad)
and im thinking using something thicker and everyone keeps telling me different stories on wat to use and wats good.

so let it rip guys wanna know ur thoughts.

Also shane i think the markets are on at kmart on the day of the cruise, so we should all meet behind Big W accross the road at the back under the sail shades... For the rocky people it is also behind a mobil servo on philip st.....

ill just do an oil change this weekend at work on the hoist and degrease the engine and maybe whack one of those nulon oil flushs i have sitting round at home coz in the log book from previous owner they used alot of different oils.

from penrite to shell to castrol gtx 2 or 3

then hopefully ive got no leaks and it will be running nicely i just think maybe the one im using atm is too thick on startup and little to thin when hot.

when i get home ill ask on QLD supra forums just it takes forever since im capped for rest of the week back to dialup
might even give the motul oil a go that autobarns got.

Royal purple is supposed to be the best, although i have never used it.

My engine builder has used Penrite HP30 for countless years in all of his and his customers engines, as well as Trick and manswetto being the big name shop that swears by it.

HPR30 is good stuff to use, your cars got a few k's on it. So something thicker would be the go. There may be some build up in the engine (sludge). Run an engine cleaner in the oil, dump it, change the filter and put some hpr30 back in.

I dunno, everyone has there own idea. If the car hasn't got any build up, just run some thicker oil.

I think your engine is using oil since you just about ran it out of oil not long before your last oil change.
Ive been using Castrol edge 5-30W for years and havent had any issues, engine runs quieter and havent had any lifter issues since running it as apposed to Mobil1, Shell and fuchs that i had used in previous years when i worked at Autobarn. My engines still look as new new without any staining to components.
From an old mechanic i know, he recomends to only use 1 type of oil in your car and stick with it, as some brands can add a light coating on engine part and other may in advertently strip them off. So swapping and changing to different types of oils can submit undue wear due to this...

just gave the car a polish and wax for the cruise... has anyone tried the megiaurs claybar and quick detailer??? God it did an awesome job to remove the contaminents before i polished.... Meguairs products are great though!!!

Thanks chris but dont go in, I ducked in early this morning before they were there and nothing. So i gather it wont be handed in.

the more i think though the more i think its in Ash's car, so ill try and meet up with him.

The good news from today? My insurance is finally approved, car is booked in for the new spray/repairs and my insurance for next year is uber more affordable. Rating 2 FTW!

Hey man do you know the best way to clean my air filters? I bought some of the k&n filter oil and I was just going to wash them in warm water?? Just wondering if the filter oil is ok to use on them...

The K&N oil is made for their paper filers. Yours are like sponges, so probably just run them through some water and give them a good squeeze. And see how that goes.
