I'm really, REALLY liking my 8.1 Surface Pro. Best tech buy I've made in years.
Bob-I actually quite like some of the new Audis (hello RS6), but yeah the R8 is a disaster. Proportions are all weird (inherited that silly hunched over stance from the Huracan) and they've shaved off all the lines. Then, for good measure, they destroy the 2 most distinctive features of the model: the side blades and headlights.
Anyway, I'll be getting one of these, which is MUCH nicer!

World War II 'Dambusters' hero Les Munro passes away

Les Munro was part of 617 Squadron, which attacked three dams in Nazi Germany
The famous 'Dambusters' used Barnes Wallis' experimental 'bouncing bomb'
(CNN)The last surviving pilot of the RAF's legendary "Dambusters" bomber squadron has died in his native New Zealand at the age of 96.

"Our New Zealand Bomber Command Association Patron, and well known Dambuster pilot, Les Munro passed away last night following a spell in hospital with heart problems. So, so sad. He was a mighty man," the association said on its Facebook page Tuesday.

Part of 617 Squadron, Munro was involved in Operation Chastise -- one of the most daring missions of World War II -- when the RAF attacked three vital power-generating dams -- Sorpe, Mohne and Edersee -- in Germany's industrial Ruhr region using Barnes Wallis' famous "bouncing bomb."

During his flight to the Sorpe dam on May 16, 1943, Munro's Lancaster bomber was hit by flak over the Netherlands and forced to turn back. The difficult approach to Sorpe meant that it incurred only minor damage from the remaining bombers. But the Mohne and Edersee dams were hit and breached. The resulting floodwaters brought chaos to the region, with factories, power stations, road and rail bridges damaged or destroyed.

According to the RAF, the Germans were forced to draft in tens of thousands of workers to repair the damage, including at least 7,000 workers redeployed from construction work on the Atlantic Wall defenses with direct positive results the following year during the D-Day invasion.

Eight aircraft and 53 of 133 crew were lost in the raid. The mission was later immortalized in the movie "The Dambusters."

Speaking to the RAF in 2013, Munro explained why he thought the Dambusters raid had captured the imagination of the public at that time.

"From an operational point of view it was successful but the main point in my opinion was the morale of the English people. The land war hadn't been going to well so the success of the dams raid was a great boost to the English people."

But he said the mission left him and his crew with a bittersweet feeling of success.

"Those that survived were disappointed so many had lost their lives; there was a certain degree of sadness by those that had come back. We were losing crews on ordinary squadrons before we got to 617 Squadron; seeing their crews they were drinking with one evening and were not there the next evening, you become accustomed to it and you couldn't allow that to effect your ability to operate the next day. The crews that did survive celebrated the fact that the Mohne and the Eder had both been breached and the main objective of the operation had been successful."

Munro went on to take part in a number of other missions later in the war, including Operation Taxable, one of the many tactical deception ploys used by the Allies to confuse the Germans about the actual location for the D-Day invasion.

On hearing Tuesday's news, New Zealand Prime Minister tweeted: "Really sad to hear of Les Munro's death, New Zealand has lost a remarkable man who led a remarkable life."

Walking Dead fans, here's the trailer for the spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead

a second series has already been ordered

AMC is so confident that their new series Fear The Walking Dead is going to be a hit that they've already given it a 15 episode second season!

Season one premieres this August, and we've included a new promo called "Lights Out" for you to watch. It basically gives us a time-lapse look at Los Angeles going to hell. It seems like it would be pretty terrifying. Hopefully I'm out of L.A. by the time the big earthquake hits or the zombie apocalypses happens. Someone should make a movie about those two things happening at the same time!

On top of that, the cast and crew of the series offered up some new details on what we can expect to see while attending the Television Critics Association. These are a few highlights of what they said, thanks to THR:

Don't expect to hear "walkers" on Fear.
The Walking Dead avoids using the term "zombie" and Fear will avoid using the flagship's default term of "walkers." "We don't call them walkers, we're coming up with as much cool West Coat verbage as we can," Erickson said, noting that the pacing on Fear is much slower paced than the original. "We tried to slow burn the story and make it about the anxiety, tension and paranoia that comes with outbreak as much as it's about zombies."
Don't expect to see the cause of the outbreak.
"No," a confident Erickson reiterated when asked if Fear would answer the biggest question in the Walking Dead series (and comics) universe: how it all started.
"Robert's goal was to examine elements of the show and the comic that he didn't do before," Erickson said. Added EP Dave Alpert, who developed both Fear and the flagship: "The show in season six is different than what's happening in season one and there were so many questions about what happened in season one that we thought it was a ripe area that wouldn't tread on the mothership. We look at Fear as unique enough to stand on its own with characters you'd be invested in." What will be seen, however, are the first responders to the outbreak. "When Rick exits the hospital in the pilot … you see the presence of the military and MASH units. We're never going to tell the story from the perspective of someone from the CDC or military, not the generals or politicians but you will see military, and you will get a sense of first responders when they went sideways and what they did to protect their families. That's very much a part of the arc of the season."
About that title …
After AMC confirmed that the series would be called Fear the Walking Dead, critics and fans alike instantly ripped the title. Erickson and Alpert noted it was a long process to solidify the title that was what the original script was called. We wanted The Walking Dead in the title and we wanted to avoid: The Walking Dead: Los Angeles. So we put something in the beginning," Erickson said, noting that the show has become more known as Fear in the months since the series pickup (and subsequent 15-episode second season) was announced. The showrunner also previewed that Ruben has a line of dialogue that incorporates "fear in the coolest way." "There was practical reason to do it but it speaks to what the characters are going to go through and where the show is going to go to a certain degree."
Make sure to head on over to THR for some additional details, but most of it is stuff we've already heard before.

Living in the same universe as “The Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead” is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
The series will debut in the U.S. Sunday, August 23rd at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT with an extended 90-minute episode.

As I stated in that post,I'm no Marine Biologist, and I'm glad I was wrong, although a couple of Boffins were saying that the barnacles were two weeks more mature for the time frame.I was more going on my experience with the old mans 30 foot boat that was permanently moored,I just don't remember him having to dry dock it that often to clean the hull

Haven't been on as much with work and many other clusterfks to deal with, plus the site is more of a wheres wally challenge to navigate, not just a log in have a quick look, fk knows why the need for change all the time, but someone gotta pay the bills I guess.

Open ocean barnacles grow very quickly from the things I have seen left in the clear waters, rivers and creeks get that gluggy hairlike algal growth, but I am no marine biologist either.

I've got no issues with 8.1, but i was used to having to run XP, Vista, 7 , office 7 , 10, 13 then osx snow leopard and Mt Lion when doing support. so it is nice just to only go between 7 and 8.1, no fn need to go to 10

Three years, and 5,000 hours, and they sunk it over 100 times. They ended up using a two stroke 250cc KTM,to keep the weight down, and to make it easier for the mechanic, who had to get the water out, every time he drowned it.He could attain speeds of 100 KPH on the lake where the main setting up was done, but only half that in tropical water, because it is less dense,so the bike was sitting lower in the water. That's probably why that last wave nailed him, because he didn't have the speed to outrun it

Motorcycles are not made for surfing. They do not float. They are not waterproof. All of which explains the biggest problem Robbie Maddison had when he tried to use one as a surfboard.
“We sank the motorcycle over a hundred times,” he says.
The four-minute video caps three years and 5,000 man-hours spent working through dozens of iterations to nail the bike’s design. He tried a 450 that offered more power and torque, but the four-stroke engine was a pain to dry and clean whenever the bike submerged. The 250 is a two-stroke, and required two or three hours. “It’s a lot of work, and it wasn’t fun for my mechanic,” Maddison says.

QUOTE
None of the bikes actually sank during testing. That would be both messy and expensive, so Maddison strapped an inflatable bag—the kind skiers use to survive an avalanche—and would trigger it anytime he fell off or felt the bike going under. His mechanic packed the air intake with foam, which minimized the risk of the engine sucking in water.

PPQ will actually sell you Japanese replicas now.
I actually hate white R8s, which I know makes me strange. Most people think it's the best colour. FYI, that colour in the pic is not white, it's actually Suzuka Grey, which is a GT exclusive very light satin grey.

I will be trying to get one of the orange or black ones (same as my 4.2).

All GTs come with carbon side blades, mirrors, front and rear splitters etc - all in matte, which once again is a GT only thing.

They only made 333 GTs, I think 5 came here. Other ways to identify them are the front canards, fixed wing, wheels, brakes, matte grey grilles (I have a gt front grille), clear tail lights (I have those too) and different front and rear bars (made of CF, with more vents and stuff). The rear glass is also now perspex, with a different vent design.

You know, in case you were curious.

Minder star George Cole dies aged 90 after revealing wish to make one more film

The star played Arthur Daley in Minder, and passed away after suffering a short illness

Legendary Minder actor George Cole has died aged 90 after suffering a short illness.

Cole, whose incredible career spanned 70 years, is best remembered for his portrayal of small-time wheeler dealer and crook Arthur Daley in the TV show Minder, alongside his likeable bodyguard Terry McCann, played by Dennis Waterman.

Cole died in hospital with his family at his side, according to agent Derek Webster, who represents Waterman.

Mr Webster said: "It is with deep regret that I have to announce the sad death of one of our most loved and respected actors.

"George Cole passed away yesterday at the Royal Berkshire Hospital after a short illness. His wife Penny and his son Toby were with him at his bedside."

TV show Minder, which ran from 1979 to 1994, brought the criminal underworld of west London to millions of homes up and down the country.

Director Spencer Hawken has since revealed he's "mortified" to hear of George's death, as he had hoped to film one more movie before he died.

He spoke to him last to tell him their film Road Rage was delayed, and Hawken told Mail Online: "The last time I spoke to George was to let him know the movie [Road Rage] had been delayed and he said 'please get a move on, I would like to make another movie before I die'."

Despite Minder being one of the legendary star's most well known TV shows, Cole revealed in 2013 he hated Arthur Daley.

Mount Isa explosion: Police treating blast as double murder-suicide as explosives used as ignition point

Police are treating last week's deadly caravan blast in north-west Queensland as a double murder-suicide.

The explosion in Mount Isa killed 38-year-old Charlie Hinder and his two children — four-year-old River and seven-year-old Nyobi.

Debris from the blast was found more than 50 metres away from the scene, forcing at least 55 nearby households to evacuate.

Investigators now believe explosives were used as an ignition point for the blast rather than gas bottles located at the scene.
