But how do you expect an officer to know the legalities of every possible product out there, or to even know if something may be defective but they cannot check easily (i.e. loudness of an exhaust)? Shouldnt the blame on any modification with suspect legality be in the hands of the owner? You cant expect police officers to be mechanics as well.

Yes I think I can expect them to know what is legal and not. I know what is legal and not. I did not go to University to learn this. It is not rocket science. I expect when I get a plumber.... he knows how to join copper, steel, PVC and all types of pipes .... not just one or two.

Sure..... they all won't know everything..... but most should know 99% of it.

You don't go on a nationally televised Poker Tournment..... having never played the game smile.gif

PS I carry a dB metre in my car.... in case I ever get questioned. They are less than $100 and accurate to 1.5 dB.

If they want to defect for exhaust noise.... every Police car should have one. That would keep all the car community happy and take the guess work out for the Police

Shit, you could host your own car park sound off with one of those babies. And at that price, even someone that drives a VK with 6x9's can afford!

Nah....

120 dB is the max it goes to.

Then again a VK with 6x9's would not crack 100 smile.gif

Here is a thought

How are the cops going to sell your car when it is not roadworthy. They have just impounded it because of defects. If they want to sell it don't they not have to get a safty certificate/roadworthy which means they would have to spend money and get all the defects repaired.

Any ideas boys and girls ?????

Yes I do support them. Your rights and freedoms are being taken away BECAUSE YOU BROKE THE LAW.

You know if you're ever imprisoned, your right to engage in ANY sexual activity is revoked? Your right to property is revoked. Your right to go anywhere is revoked. Your right to communicate with anyone is substantially limited. The list goes on.

There's no real difference here. You broke the law doing the same thing four times, you are therefore being punished with more than some points and a fine.

And what does America has to do with anything? Freedom of Speech is a Constitutional right in America. Australia does not have a Constitution (ever wondered about those referendums?). Freedom of Speech is not a legal right in Australia.

Well for starters u could cut open ur cat and hollow it out. not like there ever gana notice. I think the new law is great, less dero's being dick heads in thee POS on the streets giving everyone who drives sensibly with decent cars a bad rep. It will stop people swapping plates to. And if you exhaust is loud enough to bring attention to cops, i would have been defected before july, its just rbt were ur gana get caught. Does anyone think it will settle down abit? We carnt let them win.

There is gana be sooooo many more chases, more people will probably die, but the government will be happy as Larry because there getting more money from fines(i would say they have increased now with court hearings). You can still gave a realy nice modified car and be legal. The biggest thing seams to be exhausts. What price is a stock exhaust to pay to legally cruise the streets and still have fun and keep enjoying cars. Mabey were all gana have to get some "sucking up to police" lessons haha

Yep they sell it to someone else, and then they target the new owner ... Vicious Circle.....

IMO , these rules are a Beattie invention, but we have to adapt, or goodbye the lifestyle that we all have. Its all good to piss and moan on here, but ultimately its not going to do anything. unsure.gif

There was mention of a letter that someone on here was going to construct when it became official dunno.gif .... i too would like to be in this, only because at the moment it would seem that the police, " especially new recruits" that have this " I AM THE LAW ATTITUDE" ........ will be the ones that hand out these enforcements.

I, like others know that this attitude exists, My father had been teaching them at the academy in OXLEY for the past 18 years, and now is in Iraq. YAY.... and i know alot of police, and the older they are the less likely they are to be absolute pricks.... but then again, treat one as you should be treated, ie. don't be a smart arse and you will be treated fairly.

Good luck.

Oddly enough they also tend to be the people who whinge when they get caught, and try and find every loophole they can squeeze through. rolleyes.gif

The laws for modifying your vehicle have always been easily accessible. It's not the Government or Police's problem when people don't bother to check before they do something.

We are busting our arse's to make a living and make money while the pig's that make these law's are trying to take it away from us. Seriously what is wrong with putting on a Carbon Fibre hood. It doesn't increase Performance. It Just give's it a better look. I mean Sometime's going to far by speeding over 200km/h is OK and police can interfear. But this. Took me all of 1 minute to find the relevant modification requirements. I went to Queensland Transport and typed in 'modifications' into their Search and magically the first result was what I needed. On that page contains the Modification Booklet, on which the first page of that (back page in real life) has the exact legislation.

Should I slow down for you?

lol. You've obviously never seen what a carbon fibre bonnet does in a crash, as opposed to a standard metal, or even aluminium one.

And carbon fibre bonnets ARE legal, just like fibreglass, if they're ADR approved. It just so happens they don't give the approval to items made in John Smith's garage smile.gif

Strangely, but not surprisingly. they are charging accident tow charges, not trade tow (non accident tow) costs. Ready or Harveys I imagine, depending on who currently has the Police contract. $244.50?? Yet again, the towie with the best 'deal' wins. Laws sound fine to me, Police deals don't.

lol.

'Tuning cars' have just as much reason as manufacturers of Supercars to use carbon fibre. When you pour tens of thousands of dollars into a performance car, you don't think "Hey, a carbon fibre bonnet would look cool, that's spend another several grand and do it! Yay! We're the 1337!"

Besides, once again, the LAWS ARE NOT NEW. Carbon Fibre bonnets that aren't ADR approved have been illegal for a long time.
