I don't really need to say it, but.... it's just not happening for me, nothing out of the ordinary.
U know that though.

awesome shots mate. i haven't been checking peoples threads as of late and god dam you have improved so much. the lost main set from brisbane you did are unreal love all of them.

such simple clean images with real strong defined lines. some of the best photos of brisbane i have ever seen from any photographer.

your new lense looks like it was a worth while investment. very sharp by the looks of it.

also with the skate shots in harry's thread, always try and be beside them and pan with em, it gives a better sense of motion, even if the shutter is set at a 160 there will be just that bit of movement present. the rail would be perfect candidate for that one.

keep up the awesome work

Thanks Tyler means a lot to get a positive comment from someone like yourself. I guess in the past i did'nt really make time for photography but since i have joined here and seen such great photo's and people have been really helpful it's helped me get more into it and learn a lot.
I'm going out on Sunday to take more skate pics luckily for me one of my workers from work (yes i'm the boss lol) happens to be a sponsored skater so that helps.
Hopefully a lot better pics this time around.

You really do have some nice shots in there, I think you need to slow your shutter down a little more though. Not in all of your shots but have a go at something like 1/80th and see what happens, you might get blurred hands with sharp bodies and board. Could be a very cool effect.

For your last group of pics I think the third works really well, if only the top of his hand wasn't cut off!

While I think of it, it's always good to see the face of the skater in shots. You can see their concentration - very much adds to the effect of what is going on! I wish I had the guts to take skating shots, I don't know any skaters at all so it makes it hard to practice!

I hope my advice helps! If you want to see some more skating photo's do a search on www.photography-on-the.net/forum. Its a very good site with loads of info!

Do you just go to the skate park and shoot random people or what?

EDIT: Just saw you posted more pics, really LOVE the 6th from the left and the first on the bottom left! You can see what I mean by the facial expression in the bottom left one!

Great location, great shots, love them all...

Andrew,
Just go to a skate park, people are always really willing to have shots taken of them. That's what I did for my shots, they were really chilled about it and just ignored me and got on with what they were doing. Street randoms always give the best shots because they are so natural.

Nice shots GP, the composition was spot on. If I had one small gripe, it would be that the skater always seemed to have a lot of shadow across most of him. He didn't stand out as much as he could have because of this reason.

Yeh that direct sunlight is a bitch.
That's why I do mine where I do... No sunlight, all shade=no shadows.

Andrew i did try a couple of slow shutter pics but to be honest i really don't like them i frequent skateboard.com a lot and all of favourites pics are stuff that's caught in time like mid flip or slide or whatever. i've posted an example of slower shutter it's not bad but yeah i just don't like it that much.

Thanks Sonia i never did day pics at first because i did'nt have the time and did'nt really think i'd get good photo's during the day but it's not the bad yeah sunrise, sunset and night ones always look good but day can be good too.

Cheers Harry yeah randoms can be good but i know last time i went there was a younger kid was there and i took a random pic of him and his dad went off at me so yeah the skater is one of my workers from work but he happens to be sonspored by a Brissie skateshop. More skaters where supposed to come out but bailed.

I know what you mean Rainey bout the shadows, a lot of direct light no real shade at all not really perfect conditions is there any tips on trying to fix it up ie would a speedlight help or just make it worse?.

Nice series. Best one there is the 3rd shot but it could have been absolutely gorgeous if you maybe took a few steps back and got more of the sand in the picture to the left with the waves. Still like it alot though!

Great work wink.gif

first and third are fantastic in my opinion, although i agree a little more sand to the left on the third would be good.

I'm a sucker for night shots as the entire picture becomes about the lighting. The first and the last shots seem like awesome places - you've captured them well but I can't help but imagining a person there, a model or even a parked car. They'd be awesome locations to return to if you ever need to photograph a subject.

Cheers everybody. smile.gif

Sonia i went to Point Danger and then to Currumbin Point what a drive down though like an hours drive but was hell nice though.

Harry jealous, man when you get your D80 i'm not gonna even look in your thread because i'll be so envious so then i'll have to buy one tongue.gif

Ronza i know what you mean i should take more time with my shots wait for things to happen or even set up shots i'm lazy what can i say lol. One day i will.

Couple more from today going to Maryborough again tomorrow so more shots from there and Harvey Bay to be posted up on Sunday night if i get any good ones.

i love number 1 and 3. they both have great colours in them and just look like a perfect summers day. number 1 holds some emotion aswell, it shows that time just waiting for the time to jump which works very well for me.

love coming to check out your shots, always awesome

Nice shots there Ghetto,
If i can give u some advice it would be to look for color in your shots. It is always good to find something that can act as a strong focal point in your shots. For example, 11 and 12 are pretty normal shots, because they lack subject matter a bit. Also watch for what u use as a focal point, for example, number 7 would have suited a different focal point far better.
My fav shots in this set are number 1, because of it's color, number 3, although it think it would have looked a bit better closer up. and number 10, just because it has such a great vintage character.

Keep them coming man, ur getting better each time

Hey GP, I love the style you used for 1 and 3, they are fantastic. The colours and the symmetry work really well, they look like they are straight out of a magazine.
