Well here it is. Why use the crappy nissan boat anchor when you can transplant a Toyota engine instead biggrin.gif..

Well Mr Krawler, as they say, you can't polish a turd.....but you can make it go fast by putting a toyota engine in it biggrin.gif

hahah touche!

Thats an interesting read though, pity they bought the motor prebuilt from the US. Sort of takes a bit away from the achievement sad.gif

there's guys making 900+ rear wheel horsepower with these motors in the states
they've been playing with them for years now

that's awesome biggrin.gif go hilux powah!

well the japs swear the 1j's and the 2j's over any rb they make more hp out of them for some reson

1j and 2j leave rb's a long way behind in quality, workmanship and strength, there is no comparison

correct me if i am wrong but isn't that a supra engine.
so where the hell do you get hilux engine from.
so it was put in a hilux but that dont make it a hilux engine.

A 3RZ is a hilux engine Mister X.

Walk into your local toyota dealership and buy a brand new 4 Cyl petrol hilux and thats the motor it will a have.

interesting...

is it street legal? Because i don't really stand for cars that only have one reason in life.

Maybe i should do the same to my car, but street legal!

Go alright.

A mate is dropping a 3RZ into a corona with a TH400 behind it. Looking to make a bit of HP, actually lots of HP.

There a fantastic bit of gear, 2.7L, massive rods, square bore, twin cam, 16 valves, built "tradesmen" tough..... I’ve heard of a 3RZ in Australia making 500rwhp with only a head shim to lower compression (crude but effective).

The yanks have been playing with these motors for ages (funnily enough a popular FWD drag car engine choice), about time Australia caught up.

And here's my (and many other people in the know) prediction.... 2 years time and there will be a whole shitload of drag cars & tough street cars running this engine is Aussie.

Impressive.

Sounds like a nicely balanced package from what psi999 has said, with potential to make a shitload more power.

Nice looking setup too.

pretty sure the US drag cars are making 1400hp, standard crank.

Sounds to me like Hilux > Supra biggrin.gif

Sucks to you 2J and RB26... Hot dog, we have a weiner! 3RZ-FE... Pity its a toyota motor so the model numbers are hard to remember. Why didnt they call it a RZ27 or something relevant?

lo_rolla
Post #23

Maybe that would be better in my Sprinter than 3sgte....

Pie
Post #24

these are awesome motors - i got a vid of a hilux running a 6.99 - its probably running that motor. ps RB26's = awesome motor tongue.gif tongue.gif

meh to 26ers... u need to fully build them to make a safe 500hp day in day out... 2j or 1j... strap on a bigger turbo. sort the fuel system and ecu and some cams and ur makin 600+ day in day out no probs on a stock motor with cams

mkerr
Post #26

damn, going to have to research these suckers.
will be interesting to see if they take off over here.

Phat535
Post #27

can't believe a lot of you have never heard of the capabilities of these motors
they've been around in the modified car scene for years

there was a black hilux in zoom a while ago running 11's with a stock motor just bolt on turbo and computer.....thought that would have made it clear to most people just how tough these things are

hi_lux
Post #28

01UXO is making some good power with his 3RZ with a bolt on turbo. About 220 at the wheels i believe.

SMiTHBRo
Post #29

a friend of mine works for toyota he was telling me about how big the turbo hilux motors are overseas....this conversion is more common than you'd think

although not with as bigger turbo, that things a monster!

Skuz
Post #30

nice never heard of these engines before but im really impressed. cast iron though be a bit front heavy for a sprinter?

Hey hi_lux ! damn, it's been a while since I been on BC - yeah theyre a tough motor, I have a spare that I pulled apart - massive rods, thick block...

We just pulled the head off the one in my lux - she's been boosted for 70,000klms now and the pistons are mint so have just slapped on a new cc'd head, GT35r turbo, were making some cool custom plennum and other bits, should be back together in a week or so, hopin to make 300rwhp pretty easy, but will see facesjump.gif

Somebody earlier said something about making 500rwhp stock block - are you for real??? thats awesome if it's true but I find it pretty to believe, maybe I should wind up the boost to 30psi and see what happens ohnoes.gif

Also if anybody is keen I might consider selling my old turbo kit, bolt on it took her from 80rwhp to 220, PM me...
