bah they are jus names and model to distinguish all the cars and marketed as different names in every country.

the 240SX in the US are called the 240SX because they have a 2.4L motor known as the KA24DE as someone here has mentioned already. NA i believe.

so therefore 200SX prob represent the 2.0L displacement

dunno.gif

gotta ask the car manufacturers for the answer behind all the model names if u really wanna know

usually the numbers on the back relate to either the engine size or horsepower, although in some instances they seem to mean absolutly nothin. also one point is that the name of certain models changes in different places, like your ford laser i think is the ford fiesta here, and barina is the corsa. also manufactureres names change as well, holden for me is vauxall and opel in the rest of europe. ford actually admitted that the letters on the back of the focus/mondeo 'st' range in the uk didnt mean anything but they added it to the official horsepowr to make the focus st 180, mondeo st 24/st 200 to distinguish the line from similar models. they later said that the 'st' stood for sports tuned but admitted they had just adopted this after the production run had finished to give a better image. most car manufactors adopt a set of letters to differentiate the level of interior and exterior 'finish' or trim to a range of models. gti on the golf didnt mean anything much originally but was later said to mean gran turrismo injection, 'i' usually always means injection.

now that was interesting wasnt it? biggrin.gif

Hahahaha, You's really need to read a mag or something laugh.gif I knew GT was for Gran Turismo that's about it lol, and i heard some crappe in some mag that nissan originally named the 180sx the "180" cause every time you booted it round a corner you would end up doing a "180", biggest load of crappe i've ever heard tongue.gif ,

Roy..

If your reffering to the Ford GT's then you are WRONG. Sure is stands for Gran Turismo on the playstation but in reality it stands for "Grand Tourer"... sorry I had to be the one to say it. Doesn't seem like anybody else around here was going to.

And i was always under the impression a 180sx was because the CA18 is standard and in the 200sx the SR20 is standard unless otherwise ordered from factory. dry.gif

You may be right and I'm not saying that you aren't but in the VC series it went L, SL, SL/E and in the VH series it went SL, SL/X, SL/E. I'm just confused any ideas what SL/X is? or just some crap Holden made up to sound good I think thats where most car names come from.

And Hyunai Excels are called that because they "excel" in building s**t cars. tongue.gif

A little off topic, but...

I read once that the founding director of Toyota had a Fourtune Cookie that told him to build all cars starting with 'C', clearly with the older Toyota's that was the case ie, Corolla, Cresida, Crown, anything that was made in the late 50's. After his stint as director this wasn't entirely followed, but still was on many models.

Cheers
Craig

Commodore's not rally bred wink.gif

There was a Lancer Executive in the CC range of Lancers. I dunno why an executive would want a Lancer either, unless it was an evo. Or if they're just a cheap ass that finds it fun to wind their own windows and have passengers adjust their mirrors and such.

*edited* for prevention of a shit fight... I think I'll try and keep to the topic heh.
