There is a supercharger kit available from capa, giveing 140kw for the basic kit, priced at $4271.. there is another one priced at $6195 giveing 165KW+ but the engine would need some beefing up and probally the gearbox aswell. |

capa s/c kits are prolly the way to go. but my mate once had a turbo X3 excel, it had around 90kw atw (roughly 120kw at the fly, taking into account that it would lose say 30%) and it was frigging quick! his was all cutom though, cant remember the exact parts but i could find out for if you wanted... |

The chiptorque/Silverwater Automotive Services kit as posted above is the only off the shelf kit that i know of in australia. The excel i think fro-daddy is talking about was origionaly a chiptorque stage 2 but had some extra's done to it, it was a SOHC engine. Bang for buck the turbo kit is definately the best option, you wont be the quickest on the road, but they are fun. The other option suggested above (evo motor) is a good idea in theory, but you would need an EVO IV or newer engine with the gearbox on the passenger side rather than the drivers side like a GSR/EVO/Eclipse. |

Zoom magazine also did a supercharged Excel which wasnt a bad option either. And to people saying the gearbox is weak, they are quite strong, maybe not one of the strongest out there, but it all depends on how its treated in the end. |

How come that dyno chart says Hyundai excel twin cam if its meant to be single cam. Personally i think its stupid, everybody knows excels are crap cars, secondly imagine whats gonna happen when you crash the thing, like standing on a coke can, the panels and chassis on those things are thin as. |

Because the write up was about the single cam, and he is talking bout the DOHC model, so i figured instead of searching for a SOHC dyno chart id use the DOHC one. And what about "when he crashe's it"? What makes them so weak? I suppose you have worked in the smash repair industry and know what they are like? Yes? No?. Some people |

just pull the door trims off and you'll soon realise why they are so cheap, just work ni car stereo's. no Jig saw needed there, just tin snips. Plus a friend had a small bingle that resulted in the passenger door being ripped completely off, where ne other car would have just dinted. They're disposable cars. |

The same kit from chiptorque but in TWIN CAM version 98-99 model is $4950 (same as single cam kit). Stock - 54kw at wheels - after kit - 87kw at wheels. Must use the original cat converter and the twin cam kit has a 2 bar map sensor included. That power rating is with the stock excel exhaust which must be what about 1 3/4 inches? Make it 2.75" and Im sure it would do a little better than that. |

Why is it such a waste of money to turbocharge an excel when many people do it to lancers and mirages. Same size engines 1.8l twin cams, why such a bad thing for an eggshell? I've driven the 1.8l twin cam quite a bit and i can say from experience it will smoke a lancer with the mitsu equilelant engine. My mate had one when we were at school and they are buckets of puss. |

excels are 1.5 mate, but still a valid point, 74kw in the DOHC (i think) which is the same as the 2003 mirage with the 4G15...even the cg lancer (evo 7 shape) which has the 2L engine only has like 89kw and is SOHC |

Good point, but you see, its "cool" to do it to an other car out there, its just just these people like to stereotype excel's and their owners because the car isnt as "cool". As for them being crap in accidents, yes i work on these cars, om a monthly basis id say i would see 2 or 3, and from other cars i have worked on in my industry there really isnt much difference between for example a excel and a civic (ever seen those take a hit?). |

Excels were rated the most unsafe car on the road (when they were new of course) god knows what is now, but at the time, it was excels, they crumple like a paper cup, and yeah, ive seen it happen, on the highway no less, the car got t-boned cause he aqua planed, the side of the car got pushed in to the drivers seat, any other car woulda been pretty bad, but goddamn, not half the car. |

just go up and tap on the panels of a excel and then compare the noise to the sound of a civic, its like comparing a coke can to a fire extinguisher bottle. And yeah power to weight is a massive deal, e.g., why can't a 290kw ford beat a 250 kw holden. extra weight the main thing, and that holden knows how to get the power to the ground better than ford, i'm sure they'll improve though. |

Was that out of karate kid? |

So similiar to what you have done? or for that matter, anyone who has turbo'ed an NA or has done an engine conversion? |
