Seven Stock 19
Mazda rotary lover's festival returns to Auto Club Speedway

Many of you might have heard of Toyotafest, Hondafest, and/or Mitsubishi Owners Day. But what a lot of you might not know is that Mazda has a similar one-make event in California called Seven Stock. What can only be described as a Mazda junkie's paradise, Seven Stock isn't only for RX-7s but rather for any rotary powered or Mazda rotary chassis enthusiast. The guys from SoCal RX Club have been putting the show together since the beginning, and this year marked its 19th year running.

Like most car shows, Seven Stock started off as a meet among friends and was originally held at a park in San Dimas, Calif. The annual meet's popularity grew through the Internet and eventually caught Mazda North America's attention, prompting the OEM to host Seven Stock 4 at the Mazda R&D location in Irvine. By '10 the event had outgrown Mazda's facilities and since then has been held at various venues, but for the past few years its home has been
Having an event at a racetrack has its benefits and means it's not just a rad car show with Cosmos and RX-7s, but also a chance for enthusiasts to drive with other legendary Mazda racecars. One of the original founders of Seven Stock, Berny Herrera, mentions, "One of the highlights this year was having Mazda present a freshly restored Le Mans 767B prototype and several old-school build debuts."

Roughly 3,000 people came out this year, but next year will probably be a bigger event, not only to celebrate the 20th year anniversary for Seven Stock, but also the 50th anniversary of the rotary. Either way, if you go to a Seven Stock you'll get your "brap brap brap" fill for the next month or two.

Jamie Whincup's Red Bull Racing team to appeal Will Davison's controversial win

An appeal has been sensationally launched by Jamie Whincup's Holden team in the wake of Will Davison's controversial Bathurst 1000 triumph at Mount Panorama.

The appeal is expected to be heard early next week.

Whincup's Red Bull Racing team were livid after the four-time champion crossed the line first in the 161-lap classic but had already copped a post-race time penalty, relegating him to 11th place on the timesheets.

Whincup copped a 15 second time penalty after trying to snatch second spot from Volvo's Scott McLaughlin on lap 150.

He tried to overtake on the inside of McLaughlin at The Chase, forcing the Volvo driver off the track.

McLaughlin weaved back onto the track, spectacularly crashing with Holden's Garth Tander prompting yet another safety car.

It set up a final dog fight for the Great Race between 2009 winner Davison and Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen over the last 11 laps.

And it didn't disappoint.

Trying to conserve fuel, Davison somehow held out a fast finishing van Gisbergen by 0.14 of a second — the closest competitive finish in the race's 56 year history.

Holden's Nick Percat was third.

'Jamie was being pretty desperate'

But Red Bull Racing appear confident after coughing up $10,000 to lodge the appeal.

Six-time Supercars series champion Whincup said he would apologise to both drivers.

"I feel sorry about that," he said.

"I will apologise but I felt the move was on." He didn't get much sympathy on Sunday.

"Whincup started all that," Tander said.

"Jamie was being pretty desperate, it's not on."

Whincup had looked like the man to beat, breaking the race lap record three times before fate stepped in.

Van Gisbergen still leads the Supercars series on 2248 points ahead of Whincup (2241) and Craig Lowndes (2091).

Davison is in sixth spot after his second Bathurst win.

The Great Race honoured Brock's anniversary, attracting a four day attendance of 204,512 — the second biggest ever Bathurst crowd.

GRUDGE KINGS CANCELLED

Grudge Kings promoter, Po Tung, has made the decision to cancel the Grudge Kings event on October 15th.

With all the other events currently scheduled and happening during the month of October, entries for Grudge Kings were not as high as hoped.

Although it is disappointing that the event will not run this weekend, cancelling the event relieves pressure on the track and promoters alike, and allows Grudge Kings to focus on putting together the best possible show for the International trek to New Zealand on November 27th.

We invite everyone who'd expressed interest in competing at Grudge Kings to make sure they register for Outlaw Armageddon and the opportunity to race against USA Drag Week Legend, Larry Larson.

AZN’S VW DUNG BEETLE HIT’S THE DYNO AND MAKES 438HP

When it comes to racing, there are several ways to go about getting down the track in the fastest way possible given the equipment that you have in hand.

Sure, you could just throw a ton of power at something and hope that it works or you could go down another road entirely. We think that the latter is what AZN chose to roll with!

While the Volkswagen Beetle, affectionately known as the Dung Beetle, only makes 438hp on the dyno, you have to remember that this thing isn’t only light but it also seems to be able to hook on whatever road you want to put it on.

While the turbocharged setup doesn’t make the most power in the world, AZN seems to be running that setup to its maximum capacity, something that not too many racers can lay claim to – talk about being efficient!

Check out the video below as the VW hits the rollers and lays down a number when it screams to life and makes that 62mm Turbonetics turbo hiss!

Bad Apples: Genius bar staff caught stealing photos from customer phones, rating images out of 10
Yahoo7 News on October 13, 2016, 6:30 am

Staff at an Apple store in Queensland have been caught stealing personal photos from customer's phones, taking explicit photos of female colleagues and sharing the images with other employees to rate the victims out of 10.

The four men from the Carindale store were fired after they took over one hundred explicit and up-close photos of people, including female co-workers.

Employees would then share the images with staff from other Queensland Apple stores and rank the victim's pictures out of 10.

The breach came to light when a staff member walked in on a technician looking through a customer's phone.

The staff engaged in rating the images out of 10. Photo: Stock/Getty
It's believed Apple has not informed customers of the privacy breach, but has confirmed the Carindale store is being investigated.

“Apple believe in treating everyone equally and with respect, and we do not tolerate behaviour that goes against our values,” the company said in a statement.

“We are investigating a violation of Apple’s business conduct policy at our store in Carindale, where several employees have already been terminated as a result of our findings.”

Changes for L and P plate drivers
Posted on October 11, 2016 by NRMA Safer Driving School

From 1 December, changes to the Graduated Licensing Scheme for learner, P1 and P2 drivers will come into effect.

There are two rafts of changes, one commencing on 1 December this year and the other from November next year.

This year’s change

From 1 December 2016, P2 holders will no longer be permitted to use a mobile phone at all while driving or riding. P2 licence holders will have the same mobile phone restrictions as Learner and P1 licence holders. At present, P2 licence holders can use mobile phones for calls and audio only, provided the phone is securely mounted, or an automated audio device is being used.

It is important when driving to recognise that driving is ALWAYS the primary task at hand, not receiving or transmitting communication to others. This point is especially important for new drivers to realise.

There have been attempts at justifying the use of mobile technology while driving, including business efficiency, cost effectiveness of ETA texts and business related technology for customer service, but it unquestionably still remains a driving distraction and as such an increased risk to other road users. To this end, removing the P2 mobile phone usage, including via Bluetooth, is removing a likely driving distraction.

Next year’s changes

From November 2017, the following changes will come into force for Learner, P1 and P2 drivers:

Learners will be required to pass the Hazard Perception Test to progress to unsupervised driving (additional to the practical, on road driving test).
P1 licence holders will no longer need to pass the Hazard Perception Test before progressing to a P2 licence
P2 licence holders will no longer need to pass the Driver Qualification Test before progressing to an unrestricted licence
The time a driver must stay on their P2 licence will be extended by 6 months for each time they receive a suspension for unsafe driving behaviour.

Extending the time a driver must stay on their P2 licence by 6 months each time they receive a suspension for unsafe driving behaviour emphasises the importance of getting the safety message through to those who continue to drive in a dangerous way. If a driver wishes to progress through this stage of their licensing in the minimum time, then they need to drive as safely as they can.

SPY PICS: Last hurrah for front-engined ZR1 Corvette

Updated C7 'Vette is tipped to produce 520kW from its supercharged V8, ahead of new mid-engined model

As GM moves towards its next-generation mid-engined C8 Corvette, Chevrolet is preparing a final, current-generation C7 version of the beastly ZR1 to bow out in a blaze of glory.

This batch of spy photos shows a cobbled-up C7 test mule on a shakedown run in the US ahead of its expected launch date as the final front-engined ZR1 at the Detroit motor show in January 2017.

Based on the current Z06, the ZR1 is expected to wind out more power than any other production Corvette. Rumours suggest it will produce around 520kW from an uprated version of the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that currently, in its most potent Z06 form, develops around 485kW.

Although Chev is known to be working on a new LT5 V8, this is not tipped to appear until the C8 model expected in 2018.

And though this test mule doesn’t have it, previous ZR1 spy photos have depicted a car with a huge, sun-blocking rear wing. The mounting points on the rear deck are still there, though. And the massive cross-section racing tyres look entirely in keeping with the expected performance potential.

Some reports are saying the ultimate front-engined ZR1 will drive through a manual gearbox, not the 10-speed auto available in the current Z06.

This is against the background of GM Holden’s promise to introduce a sports car – tipped by some to be sourced from the US – for the Australian market after the final Commodore rolls off the production line in 2017.

If it ends up being a Corvette, don’t get too excited about the upcoming C7 ZR1.

If you want to get your blood pumping, consider instead the possibilities of an LT5-powered mid-engine C8 cutting loose in our wide brown land.

INSANE Engine Swap - Mazda RX-7!

Published on Oct 11, 2016
We saw this gorgeous Mazda RX-7 last year at Drag Week 15' doing some kick-ass 8 second passes, and we were so happy to see it back again this year! Apparently, an 8-second Mazda wasn’t enough, so Rick ditched the old small-block Chevy motor, and swapped it out with a nice 555 cubic inch Chevy big-block motor. Paired with 2 Garrett, 88mm turbos, this little RX-7 is now being pushed to mid 7-second passes, trapping OVER 190mph! INSANE!
