Australian cricket icon Max Walker dies aged 68

Sports commentator and former Australian Test cricketer Max Walker has died aged 68, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Sporting greats and media personalities have taken to Twitter to pay tribute, after his death was confirmed this morning.

Walker made his Test debut in 1972 and took a total of 138 Test wickets, with his unusual bowling action earning him the nickname "Tangles".

He was the 263rd man to wear the Baggy Green, according to Cricket Australia, and played 34 Tests for Australia and 70 first-class games for Victoria.

After retiring from cricket in 1982, Walker embarked on a successful broadcasting career that began on radio and included numerous roles at Channel 9.

He read sports reports for Channel 9 Melbourne, worked as a commentator for the channel, hosted the Sunday Footy Show from 1993 until 1998, and hosted Nine's Wide World of Sports until 1999.

On his website, Walker had written of his love for cricket and his transition to commentating.

"I was very fortunate to make the transition from player to commentator within a week of retirement," he wrote.

"After four years of talking about the game on radio I was head hunted to join Richie Benaud and his team in the Nine booth.

"My involvement with the commentary team ended in 1991 with the birth of my daughter Alexandra. I had to make a choice between travelling the world, talking about cricket, or a family lifestyle. I chose the latter."

In 2011, he was named a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to cricket and to the community through his work with youth and social welfare organisations.

BREAKING NEWS: Deadly rocket that brought down MH17 over Ukraine 'DID come from Russia', investigators reveal

The Boeing 777 was hit mid-air in July, 2014, killing all 298 people on board
Surface-to-air missile was used in the strike over eastern Ukraine in 2014
Investigators say BUK missile was moved in from Russia before the strike
It was fired from a rebel-held village and then moved back over the border

The rocket that brought down MH17 over eastern Ukraine was fired from territory held by pro-Moscow rebels and was moved in from Russia, experts have revealed.

A surface-to-air missile hit the Malaysia Airlines flight en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in 2014, killing all 298 people aboard, most of them Dutch citizens.

Today, international prosecutors said one rocket from the BUK system was fired from the rebel-held village of Pervomaysk, in eastern Ukraine, before being moved back to Russia.

Pro-Moscow rebels had called for deployment of the mobile surface-to-air weapon, and reported its arrival in rebel-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine, according to communication intercepts revealed by Wilbert Paulissen, from the Dutch National Police.

From that and other evidence collected by the Joint Investigation Team, Paulissen told a news conference: 'It may be concluded MH17 was shot down by a 9M38 missile launched by a Buk, brought in from the territory of the Russian Federation, and that after launch was subsequently returned to the Russian Federation.'

Monthly update on the apple hq build. Don't you just love drones lol. One thing that struck me is the amount of dust over the buildings / car parks surrounding the building site. You can see Apple being a good neighbour and paying for cleaners to come in and clean the surrounding facilities / houses. Either that or there'd be a heap of complaints to the county regarding keeping the dust levels down.

this is wrong on so many levels. the 'woman' booked her seat prior to the other passengers, was already seated etc, then they suddenly had the problem sitting near a female........the onus should have been on them at the time of booking / purchasing the ticket to inform the airline of their beliefs. It's not the womans burden of responsibility to have to adhere to their religious beliefs, she would have been well within her rights to tell the airline / men to 'eff off.

United Airlines passenger told to switch seats as Pakistani men 'did not want to sit next to woman'

A United Airlines passenger has complained of discrimination after she was told to switch seats because two Pakistani monks did not want to sit next to a woman.

Mary Campos was boarding a plane bound for Houston from California when the gate agent reportedly informed her that her pre-booked seat had been changed.

"I don’t know how to tell you this," he said.

He then explained that due to the two passengers’ "cultural beliefs", they could not sit next to or talk to a woman.

They could also not be served by female staff, she was told.

Ms Campos, a senior consultant in the oil and gas industry from Coto de Caza, told CBS that she was “shocked”, but had no choice but to take her new seat.

In a letter to United Airlines, she wrote: "What if I were handicapped or transgender? What if your entire crew were female? Any belief that prevents individuals from interacting with females should not travel on commercial aircraft."

The airline responded to say they would look into the matter.

In a statement, the airlines wrote: "We regret that Ms Campos was unhappy with the handling of the seat assignments on her flight.

"United holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism and has zero tolerance for discrimination."

Ms Campos said she did not want to sue the airline, but insisted that they apologise to every woman on the plane, including staff.

She also wanted the company to change their policy to protect women’s rights.

Daniel Riccardio wins Malaysian Grand Prix

Australia's Daniel Ricciardo has led a surprise one-two for Red Bull at a turbulent Malaysian Grand Prix which saw one-time race leader Lewis Hamilton stopped by an engine failure and Nico Rosberg finish third after spinning early on and handed a 10-second penalty.

Hamilton seemed to be comfortably heading towards his 50th career victory and the championship lead on Sunday when flames suddenly burst out of his Mercedes with 15 laps left, forcing the title holder to retire.

Hamilton's misfortune allowed Ricciardo to claim his fourth victory overall ahead of teammate Max Verstappen and Rosberg - which the Australian celebrated in style by drinking champagne out of his shoe at the victory ceremony.

Hamilton appeared to be on course towards a morale-boosting victory to turn the title race back in his favour when the engine failed without any warning in the 41st lap.

The Red Bull battle heated up at the same time with Ricciardo firmly standing his ground against the teenager Verstappen.

It turned out to be duel for the race win, and Ricciardo added to his three top spots from 2014 in 1 hour 37 minutes 12.776 seconds, after missing out earlier this year in Spain and Monaco.

"Lewis got the lead and had his problems. I am not one for believing in a whole lot, but it went the other way in Monaco, and I will take this today, no hard feelings to Lewis," Ricciardo said.

"It has been two years since the last win, and it has been a bit emotional. We have come so close but I said two weeks ago we would win one and we did."

Rosberg dropped to the back of the pack after being hit in the first turn by the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel but he fought back to make the podium even though he was handed the penalty by stewards for a robust passing move on Kimi Raikkonen.

Rosberg not only retained the championship lead but even increased it by 15 points over Hamilton to 23 points with five races left.

Hamilton was fully frustrated and suggested that the engine problems only affect him and not Rosberg.

"My question is to Mercedes. We have so many engines made for drivers, but mine are the only ones failing this year. Someone need to give me some answers because this is not acceptable. We are fighting for the championship and only my engines are failing," he told BBC radio.
