Bike heads in for a custom map tomorrow, we're hoping a minimum 190rwhp which is pretty much standard. Got a few goodies on the way which should put it at around 240rwhp without a turbo.

This Isn’t Your Ordinary Keychain Turbo

We have seen 5 or 6 videos lately of people testing out little plastic turbocharger keychains with compressed air, and while those little toys are cool, this is a hundred times better! This is a real, operational mini turbo that helps cram air down into the RC car it is installed in! Just kidding, folks…this is still one of those keychains, and it doesn’t do a lot more than just look super cool on this RC car!

CBS and Paramount Pictures are big believers in reasonable fan fiction and fan creativity, and, in particular, want amateur fan filmmakers to showcase their passion for Star Trek. Therefore, CBS and Paramount Pictures will not object to, or take legal action against, Star Trek fan productions that are non-professional and amateur and meet the following guidelines.

Guidelines for Avoiding Objections:

The fan production must be less than 15 minutes for a single self-contained story, or no more than 2 segments, episodes or parts, not to exceed 30 minutes total, with no additional seasons, episodes, parts, sequels or remakes.

The title of the fan production or any parts cannot include the name “Star Trek.” However, the title must contain a subtitle with the phrase: “A STAR TREK FAN PRODUCTION” in plain typeface. The fan production cannot use the term “official” in either its title or subtitle or in any marketing, promotions or social media for the fan production.

The content in the fan production must be original, not reproductions, recreations or clips from any Star Trek production. If non-Star Trek third party content is used, all necessary permissions for any third party content should be obtained in writing.

If the fan production uses commercially-available Star Trek uniforms, accessories, toys and props, these items must be official merchandise and not bootleg items or imitations of such commercially available products.

The fan production must be a real “fan” production, i.e., creators, actors and all other participants must be amateurs, cannot be compensated for their services, and cannot be currently or previously employed on any Star Trek series, films, production of DVDs or with any of CBS or Paramount Pictures’ licensees.

The fan production must be non-commercial:

CBS and Paramount Pictures do not object to limited fundraising for the creation of a fan production, whether 1 or 2 segments and consistent with these guidelines, so long as the total amount does not exceed $50,000, including all platform fees, and when the $50,000 goal is reached, all fundraising must cease.

The fan production must only be exhibited or distributed on a no-charge basis and/or shared via streaming services without generating revenue.

The fan production cannot be distributed in a physical format such as DVD or Blu-ray.

The fan production cannot be used to derive advertising revenue including, but not limited to, through for example, the use of pre or post-roll advertising, click-through advertising banners, that is associated with the fan production.

No unlicensed Star Trek-related or fan production-related merchandise or services can be offered for sale or given away as premiums, perks or rewards or in connection with the fan production fundraising.

The fan production cannot derive revenue by selling or licensing fan-created production sets, props or costumes.

The fan production must be family friendly and suitable for public presentation. Videos must not include profanity, nudity, obscenity, pornography, depictions of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or any harmful or illegal activity, or any material that is offensive, fraudulent, defamatory, libelous, disparaging, sexually explicit, threatening, hateful, or any other inappropriate content. The content of the fan production cannot violate any individual’s right of privacy.

The fan production must display the following disclaimer in the on-screen credits of the fan productions and on any marketing material including the fan production website or page hosting the fan production:

“Star Trek and all related marks, logos and characters are solely owned by CBS Studios Inc. This fan production is not endorsed by, sponsored by, nor affiliated with CBS, Paramount Pictures, or any other Star Trek franchise, and is a non-commercial fan-made film intended for recreational use. No commercial exhibition or distribution is permitted. No alleged independent rights will be asserted against CBS or Paramount Pictures.”

Creators of fan productions must not seek to register their works, nor any elements of the works, under copyright or trademark law.

Fan productions cannot create or imply any association or endorsement by CBS or Paramount Pictures.

CBS and Paramount Pictures reserve the right to revise, revoke and/or withdraw these guidelines at any time in their own discretion. These guidelines are not a license and do not constitute approval or authorization of any fan productions or a waiver of any rights that CBS or Paramount Pictures may have with respect to fan fiction created outside of these guidelines.

Actually, what they learned is something that was posted on the Axanar site some time ago: Basically the fact that CBS did not realize the shitstorm it would cause for them. They had hoped that Axanar would simply comply with the request and not get help from a decent law firm. The big problem for them is that the IP for Star Trek has moved around a lot in the last 50 years and it would become verry difficult for them to prove they actually own all the IP they have placed a claim on. The case isn't watertight and by the time a ruling comes out of it the production would have ended and their would not be any money or compensation to gain for them. All that would be left would be huge bills from lawyers.

Remember how J.J. Abrams said the lawsuit against the 'Star Trek: Axanar' fan film had been dropped? Not quite.

If anyone in Hollywood would have the power to beam away a lawsuit involving sci-fi fans, J.J. Abrams, as a key custodian of both the “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” franchises, would be that guy.

At least that’s what you might think.

Late last year, Paramount Pictures and CBS filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the makers of a crowdfunded fan film called “Star Trek: Axanar,” news that hit diehard “Trek” fans like a photon torpedo. At a fan event in May for the upcoming movie “Star Trek Beyond,” Abrams – who directed the 2009 “Star Trek” big-screen reboot and its 2013 sequel and is producing the new Justin Lin-directed film – announced that with both his and Lin’s blessings, the lawsuit would soon be dropped.

"[Lin and I] started talking about it and realized this was not an appropriate way to deal with the fans," Abrams told the crowd. “The fans should be celebrating this thing. Fans of ‘Star Trek’ are part of this world. So [Lin] went to the studio and pushed them to stop this lawsuit and now, within the next few weeks, it will be announced this is going away, and that fans would be able to continue working on their project.”

Abrams’ surprise announcement was welcome news to the makers of “Axanar.” Yet one month later, the lawsuit shows no signs of going away anytime soon. Last week, lawyers for Paramount and CBS informed a federal judge in California that their legal action was still pending, rejecting the defendants’ claims that the film was protected under fair use. For now, the fate of “Axanar” remains in limbo.

“Nothing has changed,” Robert Meyer Burnett, who is set to direct “Axanar” if it ever goes into production, told The Times last week. “It has been going through the court system exactly the same way it had been before [Abrams] made that announcement…. I think, unfortunately, the outcome ultimately is not going to be favorable to us and certainly not for our fans and our donors.” (A spokesperson for Paramount did not respond to a request for comment.)

Studios have long tolerated, and sometimes even supported, fan-made films as long as they don't attempt to capitalize financially on copyrighted material. While such fan movies are usually decidedly modest, homemade affairs, the team behind “Axanar” raised more than $1.2 million through a crowdfunding campaign for what they billed as “the first fully professional, independent ‘Star Trek’ film.”

Still, despite those lofty ambitions, Burnett, who was not personally named in the suit, insists that the makers of “Axanar” have never sought to earn any money from the project. Those who donated $25 or more to the crowdfunding campaign were promised a digital download of the film, and all funds received were to go to production costs. “Ultimately, it was a movie that was paid for by donors that would be given away for free on the Internet,” said Burnett, a lifelong “Trek” fan who directed the 1999 film “Free Enterprise” and has written and produced behind-the-scenes extras for home video releases of the series “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”

Nor did they see the project competing in any way with a film like “Beyond.” “No matter how good ‘Axanar’ could be, I don’t think anyone would ever mistake it for an officially released ‘Star Trek’ movie that cost $150 million,” Burnett said. “If anything, we were going to make the ‘Sex, Lies, and Videotape’ of fan films, all the while honoring the ‘Star Trek’ franchise. No one is ever going to compete at the level that a Hollywood production can muster, although I’m very flattered to see that they’re threatened by us, because it makes me think we were doing something right.”

The “Axanar” lawsuit has divided the “Star Trek” fan community, with some cheering on what they see as a scrappy David taking on a corporate Goliath and others seeing the project as an overreach that threatens the entire world of fan films.

“Everyone thinks that because of this we might bring the era of fan films down to a crashing end – we’ve nuked fan films forever,” Burnett said. “To me, that’s the worst thing in the world if people think that of us.”

Still, he holds out hope that in the end, the “Axanar” team will be vindicated both in the legal system and in the court of public opinion.

“If they can point to us and say, ‘These guys pursued their dream relentlessly in the face of overwhelming odds and stayed together as friends and colleagues and were able to succeed’ – what is more ‘Star Trek’ than that?”

That being said, we do have an obligation to our donors and fans, and we have every intention of fulfilling it to the best of our ability. So, we will continue to make “The Requiem” as promised, but without any Star Trek elements.

As you know, we've already begun filming “The Requiem” so we cannot halt, suspend, or postpone production. Renegades, from the get go, was designed to be transformative... not derivative. Thus, with very minor changes to our script, we have eliminated all of the Star Trek references. The good news is that Renegades is now a completely original and ongoing series.

Chris Pine Says a Brainy 'Star Trek' Movie Wouldn't Work in Today's Hollywood

Captain Kirk himself says the marketplace demands explosions, not philosophizing

Back in 1965, NBC told Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry his science-fiction TV show was “too cerebral” for television audiences to enjoy. And it looks like in 2016, our current incarnation of the heroic Captain Kirk agrees with that assessment. While making the interview rounds for Star Trek Beyond, Chris Pine said, “…you can’t make Star Trek cerebral in 2016. It just wouldn’t work in today’s marketplace.”

To be fair, these comments can be read as a defense against the perception that Star Trek Beyond is valuing fast-and-furious action over philosophical rumination. Pine went on to say that the recent Star Trek films have attempted to “hide” complex themes inside of bigger, louder narratives but that right now, doing anything more interesting or thoughtful is “tricky.”

Since the J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot of Star Trek, fans have debated what the thematic focus of this beloved sci-fi franchise ought to be. Should Star Trek be a quirky meditative exploration of how humanity might function in a distant future? Or, should it be a series of palatable and fun action-adventure stories which just happen to be set in space? With the new film coming on July 22nd, one thing is certain; Star Trek fans will always find some reason to be in pain. Because, maybe the debate about Star Trek’s essence is the thing that truly makes Star Trek, Star Trek. As Captain Kirk said in 1989’s universally panned Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, “I don’t want my pain taken away! I need my pain!”

'80s kids rejoice: There's a new prequel series to "The Dark Crystal"

The Dark Crystal is a beautifully creepy film from the ’80s that developed a serious cult following. It was one of the first of its kind, creating a love for creature design and really creepy story telling. Other cult classics like Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story and Little Monsters followed suit.

Some really good news for fans of the Jim Henson classic film: It’s making its way back into our lives in the form of a new prequel book series. We finally get to relive the beautiful creepiness of The Dark Crystal, but this time from the very beginning.

Shadows of the Dark Crystal is the first book in the series, and it’s written by author J.M. Lee, who won 2013’s The Dark Crystal Author Quest — a competition put on by Grosset & Dunlap and The Jim Henson Company. Lee’s story beat out 500 other submissions.

The story is set in the world of the Skeksis and Mystics, and takes places years before The Dark Crystal. According to Nerdist, “The prequel takes place years before the events of The Dark Crystal and follows the journey of a young Gelfling woman who leaves her secluded home to uncover the truth surrounding the disappearance of her brother, who has been accused of treason by the sinister Skeksis Lords.” The powers of good vs. evil live on.

To make things especially nostalgic, the book’s cover art was created by the film’s original creature designer Brian Froud.

Nerdist has provided the first two chapters of Shadows of the Dark Crystal. That should hold us over until the book is available for purchase on June 28.
