Boxing legend Muhammad Ali dies at 74

Muhammad Ali, widely hailed as the greatest heavyweight boxer in the sport’s history, died late Friday night after being hospitalized in Arizona Thursday with a respiratory issue.

Ali, 74, had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since the 1980s.

“After a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,” family spokesperson Bob Gunnell said in a statement.

Ali's prowess in the ring and his personality and social activism make him one of the most recognizable sports figures of the last century.

He secured an Olympic gold medal in the 1960 Summer Games and became one of the youngest heavyweight champions of all time, stunning the boxing world with a knockout of Sonny Liston to claim the title in 1964 at 22.

It marked the first of three times Ali would win the heavyweight title.

Shortly after the native of Louisville defeated Liston, Ali became a cog in both the civil rights and anti-war movement. Ali changed his name from Cassius Clay after he joined the Nation of Islam, and he was convicted of draft evasion in 1967 after he refused to fight in the Vietnam War because of religious beliefs.

His opposition to the Vietnam War cost him the belt and led to a three-year ban from boxing. His conviction for dodging the Vietnam War draft was overturned by the Supreme Court in 1971.

Ali returned to the ring in 1970 and suffered his first pro loss a year later in a title bout against Joe Frazier, who won via unanimous decision.

It was the first of three memorable fights against Frazier – with Ali winning the last two.

Ali reclaimed the heavyweight belt against George Foreman in one of the most storied events in sports history, "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. Ali employed the "rope-a-dope," in which he allowed Foreman to tire himself out as Ali absorbed punch after punch, before he claimed the bout in Zaire -- now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo -- with a knockout.

In 1978, a clearly overweight Ali lost his title to Leon Spinks but won it back in a rematch six months later, making him the first fighter to win the heavyweight title three times.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 with a 56-5 record, three of the losses coming in his final four fights. He had 37 knockouts.

Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease three years after his retirement. Family members believed his years of boxing contributed to the disease.

After his retirement, he concentrated on philanthropy and social activism.

He was admitted for medical treatment several times in recent years, including to treat pneumonia in December 2014.

The first episode of Top Gear has been slammed for using canned laughter as viewers claim it was used to boost 'awkward silences' from bored audience members.

This is the latest trouble to hit the BBC Two motoring show after it kicked off to the sound of opinionated viewers on social media and negative reviews from the media .

These opinions were echoed by lackluster ratings - the show brought in an average of 4.4m viewers, which was slightly less than the 5m host Chris Evans hoped for - and now the show has come under-fire for the use of added chuckles to cover dull reactions to jokes.

This year the Rally battled floods and snow as it travelled from Mackay to Hobart.

We are considering an SP23 if one fell in the right price range, I have my eye on a 2004 Mazda 6 Classic for $6000 drive away.

Sounds like a bargain compared to some shit heaps I've been finding, this car will be used as a daily aswell.

The average in km's seems to be between 110,00km's and 190,000km's. I have no problem buying a car with a few km's,my current car has 280,000km's and still going strong,doesnt drink coolant or oil and the compression is well within excellent standards.

I'm hoping to look at 3 in the next few days. #1 is a Luxury Sports with 174,000km's for $8200,#2 is a Classic with 172,000km's for $6000 and #3 is a Classic with 114,000 for $7800.

Yeah all Mazda 6,for the same money we've decided on a little more room just in case we do decide to travel by car, touring days on the bike are over as I get nervous travelling LONG distances.

A suspected intoxicated woman crashed into the back of a Porsche on the Hagley Road West in Birmingham (UK) on the 13/02/2016.

The woman then attempted to drive away before I blocked her in. I took a photo of her number plate before she attempted to move off and almost knocking me over (out of shot) She then tries to turn around but is blocked again which is where I open her door to remove her keys.

I passed her keys on to the Porsche driver. According to witnesses, she was arrested as she appeared 'intoxicated'.

The police have been made aware of the footage if they need it.

Costly mistake: Home invaders left with fractured skulls as brothers fight back

Two home intruders are in hospital with fractured skulls are they tried to break into a Melbourne home.

They were fought off by the family that lives there and forced to call paramedics for help.

Police believe the home may have been targeted by mistake: a costly one for the offenders who are now in stable conditions in hospital.

The home owners hosed away the evidence of the early morning fight.

It was a brawl which saw the pair of intruders come up against two brothers who could handle themselves in a fight.

“We’ve had two male offenders at this stage, that have attempted to force entry into a residential premises,” detective sergeant Andy Eyries said.

“They’ve been fought off by the occupants.”

The eldest brother was returning with breakfast for his family in King Park around 6.30am on Sunday.

He was approached from behind by one of the culprits who demanded to be let into the home.

Instead the residents resisted and the offenders ended up retreating after being hit with metal poles.

“It’s certainly an incident that would create quite a bit of fear for the occupants,” Det Sgt Eyries said.

They tried to run the brothers over in their car before fleeing to Deer Park – their injuries were so severe they called paramedics.

Soon after that the police became involved.

Most residents in the street were still sleeping at the time but were woken up by the scuffle.

Police have no idea why the offenders chose this house and at this stage can only put it down to mistaken identity.

The victims have told investigators they’re so shaken up they are now fearful to leave their home.

Sad to see the prices of early to mid 90's Japanese cars (GTR's, Supras, RX7s) creeping up to the 30k mark. I might as well give up on looking for one and just buy a GT86/BRZ and be done with it. Alternatively I can get a Renault Megane RS for an absolute bargain.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that "any new car" won't have collectible status...?
