Road Raging Biker Thought He Was a Badass Until His Head Became Softball Practice

If you think about it, road raging hardly makes any sense, it’s purely our emotions getting the best of us. This is especially true for guys riding bikes that pick fights with drivers in cars and trucks. Why you ask? It’s simple physics. You just don’t have nearly as much room on a bike to carry a weapon that might be useful in a fight. The dude you’re about to tussle with however, he could be packing anything from a gun, knife or as this biker found out the really dumb and hard way, a baseball bat. To the driver’s credit, he didn’t use the bat until the biker punched him in the face. Once he did however, he was swinging for the fences.

FITCHBURG -- A man captured on video striking a motorcyclist with a baseball bat during an apparent road rage incident on Valdalia Street on Monday voluntarily walked into the Police Department Wednesday morning to discuss what happened.

"I didn't do nothing wrong," Luis Ramos told a reporter who was at the station checking the police logs. Ramos said he lives in Fitchburg.

"I was just trying to defend myself," Ramos added, moments before he was asked by a detective to step into an office inside the police station to discuss what happened.

Ramos, 33, walked out of the police station about an hour and a half after appearing to discuss Monday's incident.

The first thing Ramos offered was an apology to the 11-year-old Fitchburg girl who captured the incident on her smart phone while driving home Monday with her father.

"I want to apologize to the little girl that saw what happened. That was very rude of me and stupid behavior and overreacting the way I did," he said.

Ramos explained his "overreaction" resulted from being shot five times several years ago.

"If you've been shot before and somebody tells you they're going to hurt you, you're going to try to take care of yourself," he said.

"The dude try to attack somebody, and somebody else tried to defend [himself]," said Ramos.

While he wasn't charged in the assault, he did say he was cited for driving without a license.

Ramos said he had already planned to go the police station Wednesday morning to "ease the situation" when officers contacted his father Tuesday evening about incident.

He said officers identified the SUV using the video of the incident, which captured an image of its license plate.

The video shows the motorcyclist and Ramos pull off South Street onto Rockdale Avenue. They eventually pulled over to the side of Valdalia Avenue.

Ramos described the motorcyclist as "reckless" while he was weaving in and out of traffic on South Street before cutting him off immediately before the incident.

The video shows the motorcyclist get off his bike and put his hand on his waist, as if reaching for a gun. He kept his helmet on.

"The dude was acting like he had a gun. I'm not positive. I can't say he did, cause I didn't see one," said Ramos about those few seconds after both stopped.

As the biker approaches the SUV, Ramos appears to attempt to exit his vehicle, but the motorcyclist slams the door shut. The biker then appears to punch Ramos through the window.

While Ramos wasn't injured, he did say he was in a "little pain," while pointing to his left shoulder.

The motorcyclist then starts to walk back to his bike, but Ramos suddenly bounds from his vehicle wielding a baseball bat. Ramos charges the motorcyclist and strikes him with the bat.

"When I pulled out the bat, I ran towards him, he ran towards me and I hit him in the head," said Ramos.

He then hits him again. And again. Five whacks in total, as the motorcyclist retreats and falls to the ground.

Ramos then walks back to his vehicle. The motorcyclist stands up and returns to his bike. The two depart the scene.

"He's lucky he had on a helmet and we didn't fight one-on-one," said Ramos, who said he was a former Golden Gloves boxer.

Well, there IS a time limit when you need the money to buy a house/start a business...

Also, as far as far as things you don't want to have to deal with when wrapping things up...oh good.

New Honda NSX could cost more than supercar rivals

Honda Australia expects its reborn NSX supercar to arrive Down Under in less than six months but still can’t – or won’t – say how much it will cost. What’s more, a global waiting list may leave buyers hanging.

Production is underway in the US where a bare-bones Honda NSX retails for about the same price as the 397kW Audi R8 V10, which is listed in Australia for $287,580. Tick a few boxes for the options Aussie buyers expect as standard in its competitors and the NSX price quickly creeps up.

Australian NSXs are likely to get a higher level of standard equipment than the US market, which points to a higher price for our right-hand drive models. In the UK, the right-hand drive NSX has a confirmed price of GBP130,000 – much closer to UK pricing for the 449kW Audi R8 V10 Plus which sells in Australia for $314,504.

Here, the NSX is likely to cost more than $300,000 when it arrives in Aussie trim. The US exchange rate is also putting pressure on local pricing and could easily push it close to the $350,000 mark or higher, putting NSX head-to-head with the McLaren 540C, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, and Maserati GranTurismo and not far off the formidable Porsche 911 Turbo.

If that seems like a lot to pay for a Honda, consider its heavyweight engine output figures of 427kW and 550Nm. Those numbers stick the NSX in the same pen as the seriously premium company listed above.

Speaking to Wheels last week, Honda Australia managing director Stephen Collins said Aussie pricing will be locked in by July. He was reluctant to put even a ballpark figure on it in the meantime.

Honda won’t officially take orders until the price is confirmed, however it is understood dealerships have taken ‘pre-interest’ deposits from hopeful would-be-owners, despite Honda being still unable to confirm the number of right-hand drive cars earmarked for Australia.

“We haven’t been given an allocation or number of build spots,” said Collins. “It will depend on global demand and it will depend on us as to how we can price the car and how many pre-orders we can take.”

Even if you can get your name in the order books, Collins cautioned that there’s no guarantee of receiving a car in the first batch.

“We expect a waiting list worldwide.”

Just five Honda dealerships in Australia have sales rights for the NSX; one each in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Honda’s factory in Ohio is limited to building eight NSXs a day. The US will take the lion’s share of production, with Europe and Japan also lining up to get a large portion. How many right-hand drive examples will be built is as yet unknown.

“NSX appeals to the sort of customers who want the latest and greatest in tech,” said Collins. “I think that’s what the original NSX customers were like too. The essence of the car is pretty similar to what it was back then.”

“We have a long history with this car. It’s about showcasing the brand’s technology and getting back to those sport routes.”

The 2017 Honda NSX uses a twin-turbo V6 engine and three electric motors to achieve its total output of 427kW and 550Nm. Power is fed through a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Mike Simcoe looks at Chevrolet Camaro for Australia

Newly-appointed boss of General Motors Global Design, Australian Mike Simcoe, has vowed to support a push for affordable V8-powered rear-drive performance for Holden after the locally built Commodore expires at the end of 2017.

Simcoe is too political and smart to name names, but GM is clearly considering a right-hand-drive conversion of the Chevrolet Camaro, either later this decade at mid-life facelift time or when the all-new seventh generation arrives next decade.

Simcoe confirmed executives from both Holden and regional overseer GM International have approached him for lobbying help on the subject when he gets to the halls of power in Detroit.

Simcoe’s influence will be massive, dealing on a frequent basis with top GM management including CEO Mary Barra, president Dan Ammann and product chief Mark Reuss (a former Holden chairman).

“If you’re asking about a rear-wheel-drive performance V8 ... I understand the things this market needs so I will certainly help wherever I can,” Simcoe told Wheels. “Some people at Holden have already asked the question.”

However, Simcoe’s proviso is that the business case for RHD must stack up. “I recognise the need for a niche product that creates performance aspiration or aspiration for the brand itself and I will help make that happen. But I won’t do it in an irrational way. I was intensely loyal and passionate about Holden, but I was always rational and I will remain that.”

Holden and GM have been gazumped by Ford’s decision to build the latest Mustang in right-hand drive. The Camaro rival has been a major hit in Australia, with more than 6000 orders now confirmed and the waiting list stretching well into 2017.

Attention is now clearly being paid to the Mustang’s success outside its traditional markets. At last month’s New York motor show, Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser told Australian media that, while GM was aware of the Mustang’s success, no decision has been made about RHD.

BMW M4 GTS sold out

Local BMW enthusiasts have snapped up Australia's allocation of the new M4 GTS despite a near-$300,000 price tag.

Such was the demand for the hardcore track special that BMW Australia managed to double its initial allocation, securing 25 of the 700-unit global build run despite the $295,000 price tag being almost twice that of a regular M4.

The GTS debuts a water injection system for the M4's 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six, first tested on the 2015 Moto GP safety car, which lifts power from 317kW/550Nm to 368kW/600Nm, dropping the 0-100km/h claim to 3.8sec and lifting top speed to 305km/h.

Water is drawn from a five-litre tank in the boot and is sprayed into the intake system to cool the air and allow more boost pressure (22psi vs 17psi) to be used. BMW claims the tank needs refilling with every tank of fuel on track or every five tanks on the road.

Weight drops 30kg to 1510kg courtesy of a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) bonnet, front splitter and rear wing, carbon ceramic brakes, lightweight wheels and the front seats being replaced by lightweight carbon buckets.

The rear seats are deleted entirely, but a Race Package, consisting of a half roll-cage, six-point harnesses and fire extinguisher, is a no-cost option. Hardcore track goers can shed a further 7kg by optioning carbon wheels for a mere $21,650.

Regardless of wheels specified, the M4 GTS wears Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber (265/35 ZR 19 front; 285/30 ZR20 rear) to make the most of the car's revised chassis setup.

The coilover suspension can be adjusted for height, rebound and high and low-speed compression damping, while the rear wing and front splitter are also adjustable to balance drag and downforce. The result of these changes is an impressive Nurburgring lap time of just 7min 28sec.

Australian deliveries begin in September and we'll be sampling the M4 GTS on road and track around that time. Could this be BMW's return to PCOTY glory?

Aust seeks missiles for AWD trials

Australia wants to buy $300 million worth of advanced SM-2 Standard missiles for test launches from the navy's new air warfare destroyers.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Australia had requested up 80 Raytheon SM-2 surface-to-air missiles plus some support equipment worth a total of US$301 million.

DSCA, which administers foreign military sale of US defence equipment, said these missiles would be used for test firings during combat systems qualification trials of the three air warfare destroyers.

The first vessel, HMAS Hobart, was launched in Adelaide last year and will soon start sea trials.
