'Xena' reboot writer confirms: Xena and Gabrielle to be more than friends

Subtext finally becomes text, thanks to an upcoming reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess courtesy of NBC and writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach, the architect behind the CW's The 100.

As much as the '90s syndicated classic was about a powerful woman who kicked evil butt alongside her spunky sidekick, Xena has gone down in popular culture as being full of homoerotic subtext between Xena and Gabrielle. The show often teased us with tantalizing hints that the two female warriors shared more than just battles.

But it's no longer the '90s. NBC has ordered a pilot for a Xena reboot, and writer Grillo-Marxuach said in a Tumblr Q&A that he intends to turn all that subtext into text. You heard that right, Xena and Gabrielle are going to be lovers.

"(I) am a very different person with a very different world view than my employer on the '100' - and my work on the 100 was to use my skills to bring that vision to life. Xena will be a very different show made for very different reasons. there is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s. it will also express my view of the world - which is only further informed by what is happening right now - and is not too difficult to know what that is if you do some digging."

Grillo-Marxuach was referring to a recent fan controversy in The 100, in which the fan-favorite character Lexa was killed right after she started a same-sex relationship with Clarke. With his new show, Grillo-Marxuach is apparently hoping to appease fans who called Lexa's death an erasure of LGBT characters on television.

We'll be appeased as long as we get hour-long episodes of the hug scenes.

Good grief…there was so much done wrong here! The Hummer driver decided to block traffic, and while we get that he wanted to keep the Mustangs together, he still had no authority to block traffic, other than the fact that he’s a Hummer driver. The Mustang driver decided that he was going to take the Hummer guy’s word that nobody was coming, but unfortunately for the Civic driver, he was incorrect! The end result is a wreck that never should have happened!

A suspect in the Paris attacks, Salah Abdeslam, has been shot and arrested in a police raid in the Molenbeek area of Brussels after a four-month international manhunt.

“We got him,” the Belgian secretary of state for asylum and migration tweeted.

Police said the 26-year-old was wounded in the leg and that a second person was arrested during the operation, which took place as EU leaders met on the other side of the city to discuss Europe’s migration crisis.

There were several exchanges of gunfire in Molenbeek – the scene of past investigations into the Paris attacks – and police officers were seen surrounding an apartment block there.

Television footage showed black-clad security forces wearing balaclavas guarding a street. Reporters at the scene described white smoke rising from a rooftop and a helicopter hovering overhead.

About three hours after the raid began, two more explosions were heard in the area and Belgian media reported that a third man was arrested.

The police operation was launched just as Belgian prosecutors confirmed that Abdeslam’s fingerprints had been found at a flat that was raided in the Forest area of Brussels on Tuesday. Two suspects fled that raid.

A Belgian federal prosecutor, Eric van der Sypt, said it had not been established how old the fingerprints were, or how long Abdeslam had spent in the flat.

When French and Belgian police arrived to search the flat on Tuesday, they were fired at from behind the door with automatic weapons. A police sniper shot one of the gunmen through a window: Mohamed Belkaïd, a 35-year-old Algerian living illegally in Belgium and known to police over a theft case in 2014. “Next to his body was a Kalashnikov, a book on Salafism and an Islamic State flag,” according to Thierry Werts, of the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office.

The Belgian prosecutor’s office said Belkaïd was “more than likely” one of the key logistics operatives behind the Paris attacks who had been sought by police under the false name of Samir Bouzid. Le Monde reported that investigators believe a man using the name Samir Bouzid had received the last text message sent by three of the Paris attackers before they staged a bloody gun attack on a rock gig at the Bataclan concert hall. The message said: “We’ve left, we’re on the way.”

Whincup fined $3k for burnout at F1

A burnout in celebration of his race win at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix has cost V8 Supercars star Jamie Whincup $3000.

The six-time champion was fined for breaching end-of-race procedures by laying down some rubber on the Albert Park circuit following Saturday's sprint.

Drivers were reportedly told not to perform burnouts at the non-championship event, perhaps for fear of ruining the track for the main event.

But that didn't matter to Whincup, who unleashed his Holden Commodore on the outside of turn 15.

Reigning champion Mark Winterbottom was controversially fined at Sandown last year for doing a burnout on the front straight following his win.

Stewards also punished Nissan's Dale Wood for making contact with Jason Bright's Holden in the third race of the weekend.

He copped a five grid spot penalty for the final sprint on Sunday.

But if these Oxford English Dictionary is doing it, then we can only assume that we're safe to proceed.

Earlier on this week, the OED updated its pages with over 900 entries and subentries - most of which were perfectly unremarkable words that had been hitherto overlooked, like 'bestie'.

Four words in particular, however, are far more eye-catching. If you'll excuse our language, those words are c*nty, c*ntish, c*nted and c*nting. We can all agree that these words are invaluable additions to any record of the English language.

According to OED, c*nty is a way of describing something that is 'objectionable or unpleasant,' whereas c*ntish is for describing a person or behaviour that is objectionable and unpleasant (a very important distinction).

C*nted, on the other hand, is a word for 'under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and finally, c*nting is an intensifier to be used like f*cking, meaning very much. As in, "I was really c*nting c*nted."

Now if you'll excuse us, we've to go wash out our mouths with soap before heading to confession.

The lore of multiple carburetors runs deep in the hot rodding world, and in the muscle car era it was common for the OE manufacturers to up their cars’ performance and image with either two four-barrel carburetors (a dual-quad, or eight-barrel) or three two-barrel carbs (known at GM as a Tri-Power and at Chrysler as a Six Pack). These days, everything old is new again, and both Holley and Edelbrock are offering complete setups to put multiple carburetors on your small-block Chevy (Edelbrock also has kits for many other popular V8s). In this episode of Engine Masters presented by AMSOIL, we will compare the price, the tuneup, and the power of the Holley Tri-Power setup (part number 300-521 with gold dichromate carbs) to the Edelbrock Performer RPM Dual-Quad manifold and carb kit (part number 2025 in a satin finish), all on our Blueprint Engines 383 stroker that makes 476 horsepower with an 850-cfm four-barrel. Can the multi-carb rigs match that power? The Edelbrock dual-quad uses two 500-cfm carbs, and the Holley has 325 cfm in the middle and 350 cfm on each outer carb. Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray torrent leaks online two weeks before release

An official Blu-Ray copy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been leaked online by movie pirates only two weeks in advance of its much-anticipated 5 April release date. In mere hours it has already been illegally downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.

In what no doubt promises to be one of the most pirated movies of all time, there are already dozens of mirrored versions spreading across popular websites like KickassTorrents and The Pirate Bay. As reported by TorrentFreak, within 12 hours of being uploaded it had already been downloaded over 250,000 times by eager viewers.

The Blu-Ray version is not the first footage of the film to appear online, however previous copies were mostly recorded on cameras in cinemas and were of relatively low quality. In recent weeks Disney Lucasfilm has been extremely busy attempting to contain any leaks by sending out nearly 80,000 takedown requests to Google.

The movie file came alongside a picture of the actual Blu-Ray disk, and appears to be a legitimate retail version of the film.
