TT Malibu Rebuild OVERNIGHT - Lights Out 7!

Published on Mar 3, 2016
This is a real life example of what hard work, determination, and good friends is all about! These guys had no engine, no EFI, and no wiring in the car the night before their first pass in their twin turbo Malibu! Based on a Chevy Big Block V8, this Malibu is now sporting FuelTech’s FT500 electronic fuel injection system running high 3 second 1/8th mile passes! WOW! Being a car with lots of history behind it, the crew was sure to get this race car done in time for Duck X’s Lights Out 7 at SGMP! This is one HELL of a story!

Hi guys, I'm Joel, Shuffs son.
This has been a bit hard to write but just wanted to let you know dad had a really serious stroke on Friday morn and died early this morn.
He really felt part of a community on here and had a lot of time for you guys and considered you very close mates and he'd want me to let you know what happened.

None of us knew it but looking back now the signs were there he had health problems leading up to this just we didnt realise how severe and the stubborn old bastard refused to go to the quack despite pushing from mum.
45 years of smoking had done its thing and one carotid artery was completely blocked and the other 70% blocked so it was a ticking time bomb, I'm just glad it happened while he was still in hospital recovering from his hip replacement and not at home where help might have been much longer to arrive.

one of the frustrating parts about this was after living with the pain for so many years he only got to enjoy his new hip for 2 days before this happened.

Anyway i just wanted to say thanks, you guys have no idea how much enjoyment dad got from here.
I haven't been real active on boost for about 6 years now but he was always talking to me about it and loved to have a chat or share some car knowledge where he could.

Thanks again guys
Joel.

Joel - so sorry for your loss. Shuffs was great value. Always had something interesting to say, seemly about every topic. He will be missed.

I doubt there will be one for available for a drive here before I leave. I am not IN LOVE with the styling, but the back and sides are good. The performance and features are there, but they sound a bit rubbish and are priced wrong. It has the advantage of being something I can just walk in and buy though, rather than something I'd have to import and comply (all the other candidates).

how difficult is it to import american cars to japan and get them complied in comparison to Oz?

surely there'd already be people importing the corvette? but i'm guessing that there'd be a fairly substantial waiting list / length of time / lead in to it's arriving for delivery.

Caught up with a 'old friend' at the Rotary Revival at QR today - i've been trying to purchase a motor from him. After all the trouble that we've had in getting a compression test, he's like, this is the price take it or leave it, motors are getting hard to get rah rah rah. I ask him if he's going to attempt to try and get it running whilst it's still in the car, or get a compression test after its out, and he's nup.

So i told him don't worry about it then.

I'm not interested in paying good coin for a motor in unknown condition when i can get a tested motor with good compression for a couple hundred cheaper from the importers.

Star Trek, early convention at Northglenn Mall 1976
ultimessence

Published on Feb 10, 2013
one of the earliest Star Trek conventions occurred in 1976 at the Northgenn Mall in Denver Colorado in Fall of 1976.
Only 7 years after the series ended, Star Trek already had a very strong cult following in the US and even abroad. There were small fan clubs popping up all over the world, so after a while it had such momentum that someone began organizing these gatherings into conventions...
At homes, schools, malls, they eventually had to rent large convention halls to accommodate the throngs of devoted 'trekkies'.

This one had Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and James Doohan (Scotty), so I had to bring my super 8 movie camera to the Mall to film it.
I brought my old pal Terry McCoy as the on-camera reporter to interview the cults and play with the toys.

The Northglenn Mall (The Mall of my adolescence) was only 8 years old at this point so it is fun to have this record of the old Mall before it got torn down 21 years later.

so no restrictions then on motor size and ability to go turbo vs NA thumbsup.gif

the only problem you're going to have is finding a good vehicle to start from. you'd have seen that guy out there trying to get 3,500 for that s2 rx7, and the condition of it. rolleyes.gif 'sif he was ever going to get that.

Lucas Browne has become the first Australian heavyweight boxing world champion

AUSTRALIA has its first world heavyweight boxing champion with Sydney’s Lucas Browne scoring a 10th-round stoppage of WBA regular champion Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny, Chechnya.

Sydneysider Browne showed enormous heart, coming back from a disastrous sixth round in which he was cut and knocked down by the southpaw from Uzbekistan in his second title defence.

The 36-year-old former MMA fighter and bouncer somehow survived the last 30 seconds of the round despite being wobbled a couple of times.

The Australian dug deep and landed several right uppercuts in the seventh, in a stirring comeback and took the round.

Chagaev, 37, regained his composure and probably shaded the next two rounds, but Browne sent shockwaves through the division in the tenth.

He caught Chagaev with a crunching right to the head inside the last minute of the round, depositing the champion on the canvas. Sensing an opportunity to finish the fight there and then, Browne capitalised on his opportunity, landing several more right hand shots to the head before experienced South African referee Stanley Christodoulou stopped the fight.

there's a pulled apart 323 for sale on Fb rotoriouz atm for $2,500

personally i wouldn't touch somethings that in pieces if i didn't have prior experience with that make and model.

it's the problem though with anything that's popular with young people who modify cars / and those makes and models. it's just hard to find something clean and in good condition. a good clean factory original s2-3 rx7 will fetch 8k all day long now.

price goes up for the rx badge mamoru.gif i'll get mark osgood / kustom kuts to make me some rx626 badges and start with a cheaper piston model mazda lol

Alf, pretty easy. You can drive lhd or rhd in Japan, and there are no particular taxes leveled on imports. You have to pay the same purchase taxes and compliance fees that a local dealer would pay before putting the car on sale though, so you're effectively being taxed twice (when you buy in USA, when you register in Japan. On a 100k (US) car like the Vette, you are looking at maybe an extra 25k all up to get it there, and on the road. For a 130k car (the others I'm looking at) that's maybe 35-40k. Still always works out cheaper than buying locally. They sell Vettes domestically, in Japan, LHD out of the dealers. They are around 200k.

With a 70k or so premium to buy from a 'local' dealership, i'm surprised that there's anyone that would support a local supplier and not go directly to the source in America like yourself. That 70k difference would pay for a plane ticket to go the States and test drive a lot of different cars. mamoru.gif
