'Police Academy' star George Gaynes dies aged 98

George Gaynes passed away on Monday at the age of 98, his family has confirmed. The Police Academy star died at the home of his daughter Ivy Gaynes Falcone Brown in Washington.

The actor was best known for playing Commandant Eric Lassard in all seven Police Academy films and had performed in the Oscar-nominated film Tootsies. George also had a lead role in the 1980s sitcom Punky Brewster.

His long-time agent Jonathan Howard confirmed the news of George's death in an interview with Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, describing him as a "sad, sad loss".

"The last couple times I got in touch with him, even in his 90s, he was always happy to take the call and consider something," Jonathan said. "He was really one of the true gentlemen in this business and was working steadily for 50 years or more. A sad, sad loss. But he had a really long, great life."

George's Punky Brewster co-star Soleil Moon Frye also tweeted to express her sadness at the loss of her on-screen grandfather.


"The universe just gained a gigantic star. You will be in my heart and soul always & forever. Your little Punky. RIP George Gaynes," she tweeted.

George was born George Jongejans in Helsinki, Finland on 16 May 1917. He was raised in France, England and Spain before settling in New York after the end of World War II.

There he joined the New York City Opera, before getting his first role on Broadway in the musical Wonderful Town in 1950s. George went on to star in a number of films and television programmes, including Hawaii Five-O, Columbo and Chicago Hope.

George retired in 2003 after playing Father Robert in the romantic comedy Just Married, alongside Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy.

STAR WARS: KOTOR Being Remade In Unreal Engine 4

The classic Star Wars RPG Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is getting a graphical upgrade. It's a project driven by fans, love, and a team of developers at Poem Studios. The ambitious team is actively working on updating the game to run with Unreal Engine 4. While they have no legal okay from the Disney attorneys, the team justifies that the rework should be okay given the following:

Can you make a Star Wars game? Remakes of games have been around since the 80's and some have become very sucessful. Games like Black Mesa did it with Half Life and Renegade X rebuilt Command and Conquer in the Unreal Engine 3.
A quick Googling of Poem Studios didn't reveal any games that they've released thus far, but the screen shots they've taken of Tatooine and Endar Spire look gorgeous!

If it makes it to release, Poem says "KOTOR Apeiron" (what they're calling it) will be absolutely free to the public. I can't help but root for them solely based off that! If you want to show your support, follow their development on Twitch and Twitter!

Council administrator's decisions cost Mehajer family millions

Former western Sydney deputy mayor Salim Mehajer and his family lost more than an estimated $10 million in a matter of minutes last night when a government-appointed council administrator overturned planning changes benefiting their property holdings.

Ex-Mosman council official Viv May is now in charge of Auburn Council after NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole suspended all councillors including Cr Mehajer amid concerns about conflict of interests, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

During Mr May's first meeting as administrator he reversed two controversial planning decisions that could have earned millions for Cr Mehajer's property development company.

Mr May overturned a decision to sell a council-owned carpark to a Mehajer-owned company allegedly for millions below market value.

In December, the council had voted to sell Cr Mehajer the land for $8.5 million despite receiving an appraisal that valued the land at least $5 million higher.

Cr Mehajer and his company planned to build a 96-unit complex on the land. With each unit worth more than $100,000 the project would have earned the family a profit of more than $10 million.

Mr May also overturned a decision to rezone land on Auburn Road and Susan Street as high-density residential and commercial mixed use.

The decision would have permitted building up to 21m high to be built in the area, where Cr Mehajer's sister owns a video store.

The rezoning was expected to more than double the shop's value, which was bought for $800,000 in 2011.

A rezoning of Berala Town Centre to include the family home and investment property of Cr Hicham Zraika and the rezoning of a large area in Lidcombe, where Cr Ronnie Ouiek owns property were unaffected by Mr May's changes.

Ie, if you want to bring in an R35, it will be about 130k (because Japan/UK and new), and you will be up for 60 odd grand in taxes.

Village Roadshow prepares to launch legal action to block several piracy-related websites in Australia

Movie company Village Roadshow is preparing to launch legal action in the Federal Court, to have piracy related websites blocked in Australia.

It will be the first time the anti-piracy website blocking laws have been used, and according sources in the television industry, the case is due to be filed later today.

The court action has been anticipated by internet providers, rights holders and legal experts since the laws came into effect in June last year.

The ABC has been told that pay TV company Foxtel is also likely to file a separate case later today.

It is understood that the rights holders and four or five of the country's largest ISPs have been in discussions over the last few months about the website blocking process.

The meetings were to smooth over any issues or disagreements before the case got to court.

Draft orders have been composed by the rights holders to be submitted as part of the court action.

The draft orders, which have not been seen by the ABC, require Federal Court approval before they are valid.

The draft orders also lay out the technical measures that ISPs would implement to stop Australians from accessing the list of piracy related websites.

Rights holders to use DNS blocking techniques

The ABC has been told that DNS blocking and "cache poisoning" is likely to be technical measure that rights holders want used to block access.

DNS stands for Domain Name System, and is a technology that powers the web by turning a human readable domain names (for example abc.net.au) into an IP address (203.2.218.214).

That allows traffic to be routed across internet links, and allows the user to see the website they want.

DNS blocking stops the server from turning the domain name into an IP address, meaning a user cannot access the website.

It is also one of the most cost-effective ways ISPs can implement blocks.

DNS blocking is the preferred method of the Communications Alliance, which represents many of Australia's internet providers.

In its submission to the Senate inquiry on site blocking, the Communications Alliance said it was the also the simplest way of blocking access.

"Blocking a web site at the level of the Domain Name System (DNS) is typically the simplest and least costly method to achieve the objectives of the Bill," the submission reads.

But the Communications Alliance also pointed out problems with the process.

"This method does, however, also carry the greatest risk of unintentional blocking of other websites and/or IP addresses that reside under the same domain name.

"In most instances it will also be impossible for wholesale providers to 'flow-down' to their wholesale customers the blocked access to a specific website, as those downstream providers will be using a different domain name.

"To further complicate matters, large corporate customers and Government customers also often use their own DNS."

The ABC has been told that the implementation of the DNS blocking method is preferred by some rights holders because it is the process currently used to block access to INTERPOL's so-called "worst of" list of child sexual abuse images.

Toyota Australia recalls approximately 98,000 RAV4 vehicles due to potential seatbelt issue

Toyota Australia has announced a recall of approximately 98,000 RAV4 vehicles built between August 2005 and November 2012 due to a possible seatbelt issue, the company have announced in statement.

"I didn't lose $10m in half an hour, In fact [I] MADE $12m in half an hour," Mr Mehajer wrote in a statement to Fairfax.

The $22million turnaround is possible because the decision to cancel the sale means the deal will revert to an earlier agreement by Auburn council to sell Mr Mehajer the land for a lower price of $6.5million, the former councillor claims.

"The old contract remains on foot which unfortunately sees the council selling the land at the LOWER price (less $2m)," Mr Mehajer wrote.

Mr Mehajer's suggestion he will remain the owner of the land at a cost of $2million cheaper than the December sale price is reportedly refuted by Auburn Council.

Lol. He'll still end up in jail either way.

Former NSW councillor Salim Mehajer has accused his former colleagues of targeting him for his "olive complexion" and because of their jealousy. Salim Mehajer has hit out at two former fellow councillors who he labelled "dole bludgers" and accused of targeting him for his "olive complexion".
In a Facebook post titled "The Facts" the controversial former deputy mayor of Auburn Council lambasted Irene Simms and George Campbell for calling his purchase of the council car park "dodgy".
The post comes during a rough week for Mr Mehajer, who is set to lose millions of dollars following a decision to scrap two major developments related to his property business.

So i need some help in regards to a vehicle i sold. We sold it on the 1st December with a roadworthy and the current owner was supposed to change the rego but still hasn't,i've copped a speeding fine and endless toll notices which i've passed on via stat declaration but this shit is getting annoying. What grounds do i have to cancel the rego and say the plates have been stolen?.
