Still waiting for the storm...... Probably count yourself lucky, apparently there are quite a few people complaining on various sites that Brissy missed out QUOTE Fizzer? No way! Everyone said storms, some severe, were likely to occur anywhere in the designated zone, not everywhere in the designated zone. Just how it panned out. Most of the SE and central coast got storms. Some got hammered. For once Brisbane missed out. Poor dears. There is civilisation outside of the Brisbane city limits! A lot of us are very happy with today's events. QUOTE I'm not sure you would call missing out on severe storms unlucky - however they were forecast and Brisbane hardly got a thing. Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and West of Brisbane all had severe storms today so what happened??? Well we had ample heat, humidity and instability for a start up until 2PM to generate storms. Storms developed inland first to the North West of Brisbane and they moved due East, it is possible these storms did two things... One - cut of the inflow needed to generate storms to the south over Brisbane or two- pushed an outflow boundary of stable air away from themselves this stabilising the air over Brisbane. This may also be the reason why storms on the scenic rim and Gold Coast stayed down there and didn't track North East. See what happens tomorrow It was all happening above and below Brisbane,Hervey Bay was hammered, and a bloke lost his life,in the storm, and as Alpha said just south, the Gold Coast was hit,as were we,and a bit further south.I lost my internet during the first storm that hit us,that's why I haven't been on,but they are saying it could happen again today,I personally hope it doesn't |

Some photos of the areas I've been looking at... Thanks for the pics Wolfie, some very interesting buildings, and areas, that would probably look even better, when the weather warms up,and the trees have a bit of foliage. It would appear that most buildings do not have the infrastructure to store their vehicles under cover, when you see a grand building like that, and the Bentley, living out in the weather How do house prices compare to Australia? |

That's a complicated question. House/land prices are, like most of the world, a fraction of Australia's. That's comparing apples to apples though-a "suburban" place in Australia is far more expensive than a "suburban" place in Japan. The areas I'm looking at are extremely expensive though (the 2 or 3 highest priced places in Tokyo), so you are looking at something comparable to an exclusive area in Aus. Total price for land and construction of a 3br house would be around 1.5-2 mil. Many of those in the pics would be far more. Houses have almost no value here-incredibly cheap to build. It's the land that kills you! Off to Singapore now, I'm in the Nagoya lounge. |

Should have gone for a run up Mt Tamborine, this was sitting on top of it,and would have filled your undies in more ways than one Looks like a super cyclone. I ended up riding home from the motorcycle shop this afternoon pissing down to the point the freeway slowed to 60km/h,here i am casually cruising at 80-90km/h and wondering why everyone is scared. |

That was the one that ended up hitting the Gold Coast, where it did a fair bit of damage |

Do appreciate you taking the time to do this,Wolfie,to me,it just adds that friendly/personal touch to computer chair travel Must admit it has a certain appeal to it,I'm guessing in law stamping grounds, maybe? Must be a reason why you don't settle there, and commute?People often travel to work, for longer time than it takes from Nagoya to Tokyo ,on the Bullet Train (if that's an invasive question,I will pull my head in ) |

We've got a small pointless "storm" rolling through now, wasn't out there when i was riding. Yeah they're building up out of nowhere,Dai,and doing 100Kph towards the coast, everyone is saying the sky is clear but we're hearing thunder, next thing it's pissing down. One just built up at Ipswich, and it has its eye on Logan next. QUOTE Just had a lightning strike over head where there were no storm clouds! So bizarre!! (In West Ipswich |

Where did you encounter it Dai?Apparently it's caused damage in some areas and passed over others, leaving them unscathed. The BOM put a 'This Storm is Very Dangerous' sign on it but when it hit the coast around Southport,it chucked a hard right, and followed the coast line.Last time I checked,it was located just off Tweed Heads, and was as black as Neddys Bum in the centre |
