‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Box Office Sinking ‘Titanic’ to Become #2 Movie of All Time

Star Wars: The Force Awakens cannot be stopped. The J.J. Abrams-directed sequel continues to ratchet up the box office charts, and as of today it has officially passed The Avengers to becoming the fourth-highest grossing film on the domestic chart with only $1 million and change to go before it surpasses Jurassic World. Indeed, with a total domestic haul of $652 million in just two weeks in release, there’s little doubt that The Force Awakens will be one of the biggest films in history.

But that #4 title will be short-lived. This weekend, the picture will overtake Jurassic World’s $652.2 million and Titanic’s $658.6 million domestic totals to become the second highest grossing film in history, with only Avatar’s $760.5 million domestic gross left standing in the way of the crown. Can it surpass that Avatar number? It’s a milestone in and of itself that the movie is besting Titanic’s 18-year-old #2 slot, and given that there are still many, many weeks to go before Star Wars leaves theaters, that Avatar number seems very do-able.

So how are things on the worldwide chart? Well at $1.33 billion the film currently holds the #8 slot, having just surpassed Frozen’s $1.27 billion gross. Next up is the $1.34 international total of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and then Avengers: Age of Ultron’s $1.4 billion take, which should fall pretty quickly. The real numbers to keep an eye on are Titanic’s $2.18 billion and Avatar’s $2.78 billion, which hold the #2 and #1 slots respectively. Jurassic World holds the #3 position on the worldwide chart, but at $1.66 billion it fell far short of touching even Titanic’s gross. However, given how quickly The Force Awakens has been raking in the dough, $2 billion is in no way a pipe dream. And with the film still yet to open in China, there’s a whole new run of potential box office dollars waiting to roll in.

Stay tuned, folks. This ride is far from over. If you’re curious, I’ve included the all-time Top 10 charts as they stand now for both domestic and worldwide grosses below.

Rank Title Domestic Gross
1. Avatar $760,507.625
2. Titanic $658,672,302
3. Jurassic World $652,270,625
4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens $651,965,583
5. Marvel’s The Avengers $623,357,910
6. The Dark Knight $534,858,444
7. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace $474,544,677
8. Star Wars $460,998,007
9. Avengers: Age of Ultron $459,005,868
10. The Dark Knight Rises $448,139,099

Rank Title Worldwide Gross (in Billions)
1. Avatar $2,788.0
2. Titanic $2,186.8
3. Jurassic World $1,669.0
4. Marvel’s The Avengers $1,519.6
5. Furious 7 $1,515.0
6. Avengers: Age of Ultron $1,405.0
7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 $1,341.5
8. Star Wars: The Force Awakens $1,331.2
9. Frozen $1,276.5
10. Iron Man 3 $1,215.4

This weather system has been going on since Christmas Day.Started up in the Gulf of Carpentaria, pretty much broken the drought in Queensland (which is bloody fantastic!),and now it looks like it has enough left to drown the east coast of NSW.

CES 2016: LG Previews Screen That "Folds Like A Newspaper"

It looks like the theme for Consumer Electronics Show 2016 is "paper thin and futuristic as f***." The Verge tells us LG is planning on showcasing an 18 inch screen that "folds like a newspaper." The concept first made its debut LAST YEAR (shout out to Facebook commenters who won't read and say this news is old), but this is the first time the public will see the product in action. Its many advertised uses included...

Tablet too cumbersome? Put it in your pocket...also it won't break easily.
Touchscreen car displays that contour to the shape of your dashboard!
Make that screen wrap around a wall!

You get the idea. Bottom line is this is looking to be the item that will change the future of technology as we know it. Then again...that's probably said atleast once every CES, so only time will tell.
