Was going to suggest buying a new one, nice to get more time out of them, but I never complain if I get 5+ years out of one. Probably an easy date to remember, last day of the year, but I always write the install date on it,did you go maintenance free?I'm still a little confused as to these lights you're referring to,warning or other, you mentioned 'switch',in your post before.
Catch you next year Alpha,if you're partying be safe,I dare say I'll be notching up Z's by 8-30pm. beer.gif

funny thing, the last battery...... i bought that december 2010 according to the bloke at turbo batteries - that was the date that's on top of it. yet to get my paint pen out and mark it's date, but i'll get onto it. gotta service the car / do an oil change, it's overdue now - 750km over atm. i've been told that batteries don't like the humidity up here (qld), hence why they fail more often. from my experience, you get a lot longer lifespan down in victoria.

what happens, (and this oocurred last time too, so i sortof knew whats was happening) when the cars battery drops a cell and you go to start the vehicle, the headlights flick on / just a brief flash.

i also spoke about the battery charger 'float' light coming on, meaning that it was fully charged and was then only maintaining that charge height, so ready to be disconnected

I do have a camera Alpha but for some reason i didn't take it with us or it would have recorded the incident. I'm yet to invest in another that faces the rear but it's on the shopping list.

i was looking for something that had a camera facing the rear as well, before i received a dash cam for christimas from my bro. lot easier facing one to the rear on a bike helmet. biggrin.gif

Disney’s VertiGo robot climbs up walls with such ease

Technology Robotics News December 30, 2015LARA LOPES

Every now and again the Disney Research team surprises us with new entertaining and ingenious gadgets, like the Beachbot that autonomously draws art in the sand or the coloring book that turns brings characters to life with augmented reality. This time they partnered up with ETH Zurich to create a wall-climbing robot that is capable of transitioning from the ground to the wall.

This 4-wheeled car is equipped with two propellers that helps the robot transition to the wall and then keep it from falling by pushing it up against the wall with unusual speed. Vertigo is undoubtedly an amazing “toy” to play with in any environment without being stopped by the presence of vertical walls. The Disney team also highlights the agility that VertiGo react to various environments.

Disney has not yet shown any intention to mass produce and sell this concept, however, its technology can be expected to be used in some gadget that might hit the markets in the future.

I think manual vs auto vs DCT depends on the character of the car. Hot hatches are great with manuals, AMGs are great with autos...I'd NEVER buy a high performance car that was hobbled by a clutch peddle though.

Trying To Fight The Cops Is Never Going To End Well For You

Whether or not you think that this cop intentionally swerved into this biker or not, the answer is not to get up in the cops face cursing at him and acting like you are going to try to fight him. That will only get you tased, pepper sprayed, or even shot! The big dude that was trying to fight the cop was fortunately restrained by his friends who had a lot cooler head at that moment then he did, and that’s a good thing. We aren’t going to comment on whether the cop did do something or didn’t, but you can’t try to fight a police officer and expect it to end well.

Was that the one you had when you visited me?Did you sustain any helmet damage,it looks pretty vulnerable to damage where you have it mounted?Do the ones mounted on top of the helmet fare better in the case of a prang?I would have thought there would be more chance of whacking the side of your helmet than the top dunno.gif

Indiana Jones 5 is officially happening, Disney confirms

Disney has confirmed that Indiana Jones will be back in his boots once again after months of speculation about another movie.

CEO Bob Iger announced the news during a video interview with Bloomberg News, promising “more great stories with George Lucas’ Star Wars and Indiana Jones, by the way, which will be coming”.

Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four films in the Indiana Jones franchise, has already hinted that he would sign on for another movie with lead actor Harrison Ford.

“As long as there’s more adventures out there, I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done,” he said in an interview with Screen International, adding that it is “certainly not [his] intention to ever have another actor step into [Ford’s] shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman”.

Ford, now 71, has played the adventurer since 1981’s Raider of the Lost Ark but it remains unknown whether he would definitely reprise the role. Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper have previously been rumoured as contenders to take on the iconic part should Ford not return.

Disney acquired the rights to both Indiana Jones and Star Wars when it bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion 2012. There is currently no word on a possible plot, release date or cast.

AMAZING TECHNOLOGY – The Biggest Shiplift in The World

When it comes time to achieve a rather impossible goal, humanity shows its awesomeness, constructing machines that surpass our wildest visions.

The Krasnoyarsk Dam in Russia was constructed in 1982 and with a 1500 ton displacement is the largest ship lift still standing, that is until the Three Gorges dam ship lift in China finishes construction.

It’s truly amazing to watch as this lift navigates dry land, lifting the occupants up to a tad over 341ft in the air and setting them back down on the other side

Golden Gate Bridge Road Zipper in action at the tail end of its morning run

Published on Jan 15, 2015
Some closeups of the Barrier Transfer Machine (BTM) repositioning the new Moveable Median Barrier (MMB) on the Golden Gate Bridge at the tail end of its Thursday morning run on January 15, 2015. It started at the northern (Marin) end and this video is of it reaching the end of its run at the southern (San Francisco) end, near the toll plaza.

The new Moveable Median Barrier (MMB) system is about 13,340 feet of 12-inch wide and 32-inch high steel clad units filled with high density concrete pinned together to form a semi-rigid median barrier. There are two barrier transfer machines, aka “zipper” trucks.

This replaces, and is a vast improvement over, the old yellow plastic pylon divider system, which you can see still in partial use here to block off some lanes at the toll plaza.

Looks like a few changes coming for Motor Cycle operators in QLD this year
Motorcyle deaths make up one quarter of Queensland road toll: police

QUOTE
Almost one quarter of Queensland's 2015 road toll – the 242 Queenslanders who died last year in a road accident – was linked to motorcycles, senior police confirmed on New Year's Day.
And yet motorcycles make up less than 4 per cent of the 4.9 million registered vehicles on Queensland roads.
Queensland's 2015 road toll was 242; 19 more than 2014, but the second-best result for Queensland road safety authorities since records have been taken.
The per capita road toll trend shows a gradual decline with the fatalities falling from 32.14 fatalities per 100,000 population in 1974 to 4.72 fatalities per 100,000 people in 2015.
Motorcycle licence changes: Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey
"Of great concern this year has been the number of motorcycle fatalities," Mr Bailey said.
"It often involves a single motorcycle and no other vehicle," he said.
Mr Bailey said changes to motorcycle licences would be bought in to place from 2016.
"Motorcycle riders will need to have longer at each level before they progress to more powerful bikes," Mr Bailey said.
"That is to get the experience, so we can drive the motorcycle road toll down."

the changes they propose won't do much if anything. it's attitudes of vehicle drivers that need to change as much as anything with regards to being more observant. once you're in an accident on a bike it's probably not going to end to well in comparison to having those crumple zones that driving a car affords.

Yeah thats the one. It is prone to damage but thankfully the memory card can be saved in event of an accident, the only reason it's positioned there so the po po can't book me for having it stuck to the actual helmet,it's located on a cover that only covers the visor mechanism.

They've been fining people who have cameras mounted to the helmet itself because the glue "ruins" the integrity of the helmet but unfortunately the police have it mounted the same way. I've been considering mounting one on the front and rear of the bike but after vibrations and winds get ahold of it,they disappear and are prone to falling off.
