EPIC Photo Finish STREET RACE - 427 SBF vs 1.3 Rotary

This was a KILLER Street Race between two COMPLETELY different animals. The Datsun is packing a 1.3l Rotary Engine with a 72mm Turbo while the Mustang has a 427 SBF with two foggers. It's pretty rare to see two cars glued together at the stripe, especially in Mexico.

Check Out The U.S. Navy’s New ‘Stealth’ Destroyer That Can Fire A Railgun Shell Over 100 Miles At 5,400 MPH

The USS Zumwalt was reportedly launched from Bath Iron Works in Maine on Monday to undergo its first voyage along the Kennebec River to the Atlantic. Measuring in a 600 feet long, the Zumwalk weighs more than 15,000 tons and cost approximately $4.3 BILLION – a number that is unsurprising considering the destroyer took four years to build. According to Daily Mail,

More than 200 shipbuilders, sailors and residents gathered to watch as the futuristic 600-foot, 15,000-ton USS Zumwalt glided past Fort Popham, accompanied by tugboats on Monday.

The $4.3bn ship departed from shipbuilder Bath Iron Works in Maine and carefully navigating the winding Kennebec River before reaching the open ocean where the ship will undergo sea trials.

Kelley Campana, a Bath Iron Works employee, said she had goose bumps and tears in her eyes.

‘This is pretty exciting. It’s a great day to be a shipbuilder and to be an American,’ she said.

‘It’s the first in its class. There’s never been anything like it. It looks like the future.’

Not only is the destroyer set to be the largest in the Navy’s fleet, but it’s supposedly going to be used to test a “railgun,” a weapon that’s being described as “futuristic.” Able to fire a shell weighing 22 pounds up to 5,400 mph over 100 miles “with such force and accuracy it penetrates three concrete walls or six half-inch thick steel plates,” the railgun is being described as something straight out of Star Wars.

Rumor: Amy Hennig May Be Working On Revived/Recycled Star Wars 1313

EA could have seen the opportunity when Hennig left Naughty Dog and secretly went into action.
by Ryan Parreno on 3rd Mar, 2015

StarWarsHQ claims that it’s likely the unnamed and unrevealed Star Wars game being penned by Amy Hennig is Star Wars 1313.

As reported by Mweb, they base this on an interview with Hennig from GameInformer. Hennig refutes the earlier rumor that they were working on an open world Han Solo / Boba Fett game in the vein of Uncharted. GameInformer says that they believe this game Hennig is working on is based on Star Wars 1313.

As a refresher, Star Wars 1313 was announced in 2012 and cancelled a year later, as a consequence of Disney’s buyout of publisher LucasFilm Games. What we knew then was that it was an open world adventure game set in Level 1313, a criminal underground den in Coruscant. While LucasFilm were reticent to name him then, it was confirmed after the fact that the protagonist was in fact going to be Boba Fett.

There is no tangible evidence that leads credence to this rumor, but of course, Hennig was most associated with the Uncharted games, as the franchise’s longtime lead writer. EA could very well have seen their good fortune when Hennig left Naughty Dog and set all of this in motion. If anything Star Wars 1313 could be a more solid project with Hennig taking writing duties.

What do you make of this rumor? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Pre-internet virals: Truth of the McDonald’s ‘hot coffee spill’ massive compensation story

You know the story. A woman spills hot coffee on herself at McDonald’s somewhere in the United States. She sues. She wins big. Not only do McDonald’s have to pay up, but they are now required to warn customers that, yes, coffee is in fact hot.

The story became symbolic of America’s overly litigious society. The woman became the butt of late-night talkshow jokes and the subject of a Seinfeld episode.

But is the story real? Did it ever happen? Or is it just an urban legend?

The New York Times has put together a video showing the true story. After hearing it, you’re probably going to have a lot more sympathy for the woman at the centre of the tale.

So, what really happened?

In February 1992, Stella Liebeck, a 79-year-old woman, and her nephew – who was driving the car – pulled into a McDonald’s drive through to buy a coffee. After getting the cup, they parked the car so she could add some sugar.

She took off the lid, spilling the entire cup in her groin area, leading to third-degree burns. What followed was a long, drawn-out process of hospitalisation, skin grafts, lawyers, courtrooms and misrepresentation which cast Liebeck as the villain – and McDonald’s the victim.

Liebeck’s burns are often trivialised when the story is told, but they were significant.

Third-degree burns are burns of the most serious kind, affecting all layers of skin and requiring extensive treatment including skin grafts.

She became permanently disfigured and was left partly disabled for two years.

Seeking to cover her medical costs, which were somewhere in the vicinity of $US10,000-20,000, Liebeck wrote to McDonald’s asking for compensation and to tell them that they probably should decrease their coffee temperature. They offered her $US800 and said they weren’t changing anything.

She decided to try her luck with a lawyer, who took the case to court, saying that 82 degrees Celsius was a tad too hot for a thing you are supposed to put in your mouth.

McDonald’s counter claimed, saying that scorching hot coffee was just what the customers wanted.

The lawyer who represented McDonald’s in the case told the New York Times, “McDonald’s had a really strong reason for why they brewed their coffee at the temperature they did. It was an industrial standard based on the maximum extraction of the flavour and the maximum holding temperature.”

Anyone who has tasted McDonald’s coffee would know that if they are looking to get ‘maximum flavour extraction’, they haven’t achieved it.

Instead, the higher temperature allows the coffee to last longer, saving them money. And when the lawyer says it was an “industrial standard”, she is accurate, but only in the sense that they were looking to cut costs too. Burger King, Wendy’s and most other fast food chains did the same thing.

After careful deliberation, the amount awarded to Ms Liebeck for her injuries and emotional stress was $US200,000, reduced to $US160,000 as she contributed to the injury by spilling the coffee.

A further award was made as part of the case – and this is the one that generally gets people talking – an additional $2,700,000, making the total amount just shy of $US3 million.

It was not Ms Liebeck’s crafty lawyer who scored the big payday. Instead it was the jurors in the case who felt only a higher monetary figure would send the message to McDonald’s that their coffee was too hot and force them to change it.

(There are different categories of financial awards that can be made when someone is sued. This includes money to cover the medical costs, but also money that sends a punitive message.)

The total amount was reduced by the judge to around $US600,000 and was then further reduced to $500,000 in the final settlement – something that most news outlets neglected to mention.

Aside from the huge financial award, the other thing that helped the story spread was that the more the media reported it, the more it changed.

Instead of her sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car when she opened the coffee, she was driving down the street, doing max doeys in the gravel and trying to juggle the coffee in busy traffic.

But, like a bad viral story, the word was out that she was money hungry and sought to abuse the American legal system to bring poor old McDonald’s down. She received considerable hate mail, most from people who had no idea about the actual facts of the case.

The Republican Party then jumped on board, using the distorted facts to push through new laws which were supposed to end ‘frivolous lawsuits’ – but were really there just to help out big corporations.

Now McDonald’s and other coffee sellers have warning labels, but this was not a requirement of the judgement in the case. Furthermore, they have only barely reduced the temperature of their coffee, to now sit somewhere around 78 degrees.

As with any viral story – pre or post-internet – it pays to check your facts before you spread it around.

2017 Acura NSX: The Slowest Supercar in the World? - Ignition Ep. 143
Motor Trend Channel

Published on Dec 7, 2015
The Acura NSX is certainly not a slow car – with 573 hp, it’s anything but. However, we’ve been waiting for this car for almost a decade. It’s finally here, with a bespoke, 500-hp twin-turbo V-6 and three electric motors that provide real torque-vectoring – and step in to mask turbo lag. The NSX has all the ingredients for the tastiest supercar, but does it all work as well as the original NSX did? Will it make Ferrari step back and say “whoa” once again? Does Honda’s decision to stuff the NSX full of so much technology actually make for a better-driving supercar? Motor Trend Senior Features Editor Jason Cammisa heads to Sonoma Raceway to find out on this episode of Ignition presented by Tire Rack.

I posted pretty extensively on these a few months back. I'm seriously considering it as the next daily.
The price point rivals are: new R8, AMG GTS, Porsche Something
I like it more than all of those, though I am still not SUPER into it
Pros: fast, good tech, liveable
Cons: looks meh, sounds meh

It will really depend what real world testing shows up for performance. If it is faster than they claim (which is already pretty good), that might seal the deal.

The other, left field thing I'm considering is the Corvette Z06, which is faster than all of the above (faster than just about anything under a million dollars really), looks better than all of the the above, sounds better than all of the above, is 40k cheaper than all of the above...but is a Corvette.
