they definitely need to reboot the culture at Essendon......surprised that Hird lasted this long tbh.

What they said as Hird left Essendon

Essendon have ousted James Hird as coach of the embattled club after his failure to arrest the Bombers' alarming slide down the AFL ladder.

NOTABLE QUOTES AS JAMES HIRD LEAVES ESSENDON:

"Paul said it was the board's opinion (that) the football club would never be truly free of the ASADA issue while I was coach and he was the chairman. On Monday night, I agreed to tender my resignation to Essendon, which was accepted by the board." - James Hird

"Personally - some of you may disagree - I believe I am a good coach." - Hird.

"Tania, Stephanie, Tom, Alex and William - I am truly sorry for what you have had to endure." - Hird shedding a tear as he speaks about his family

"Perhaps if WADA hadn't appealed, we would have had that clear air ... The WADA appeal probably drove us back into the mire." - Hird

"What's a scapegoat look like? Has it got horns? Has it got a beard? Is it a normal goat? I don't know ... You know what, I don't feel like a scapegoat. What I feel like is an Essendon person who wants this club to be successful." - Hird

"Are you trying to get me in trouble ... I don't want to get into any more trouble at the moment." - Hird, when asked to comment on the AFL-ASADA investigation into the Essendon supplements regime

"What do you think?" - Hird, when asked if he had been asked to sign a non-disparagement agreement

"Certainly ... the decisions in 2011 that were made, in hindsight, some of them were mistakes. "Were they mistakes to the level that we've been crucified for? No, I don't think so." - Hird, when asked if he has any regrets about the supplements regime."

"I don't have any direct evidence of that." - Hird, when asked if he thought the AFL had any role in his demise at Essendon

"I have a lot of friends in that playing group." - Hird

"The board and James have agreed on a negotiated settlement, the terms of which shall remain confidential." - Essendon chairman Paul Little

"I plan to stay on as chairman until I can steer the club and our players through the final stages of the WADA appeal." - Little

"I don't accept we've sacked the coach. We've been to a lot of trouble in the last 15 or 20 minutes to explain that the culmination of events ... had James offering to resign if we collectively thought it was in the best interests of the club." - Little

"James touched on it before, but this whole thing has changed people and no one's for the better because of it." Essendon captain Jobe Watson.

this is from a Fb page that i follow, of a fan made Star Trek series that i've been following for the last 18 months.

it was always hoped by the Renegades producers that their concept may have been the spark sufficient to have seen Star Trek resurrected onto our television screens. seems that won't be happening though....

QUOTE
Renegades continues!

We are very pleased to announce that Star Trek: Renegades will be producing further episodes!

As promised to our backers, we engaged the top entertainment attorney in LA who has exceptional connections to CBS and Paramount. For reasons we are not able to disclose, CBS cannot move forward with Star Trek Renegades at this time - or any Star Trek series for that matter.

We have nothing but praise for CBS. Their approach in allowing these independent productions supported by fans is enlightened and progressive. They deserve kudos for understanding that it is us -- the fans -- that keep Star Trek alive.

So, we are excited and pleased to announce that we will be moving forward with Renegades as an independently produced fan-supported Internet TV Series!

Our current film will be denoted as Episode 1 (the pilot) and we are actively writing Episodes 2 and 3. Walter Koenig has agreed to reprise Admiral Chekov in this two-part episode, with Episode 2 ending with a cliffhanger, and Walter has decided that Episode 3 will be his final performance as Chekov. We are so honored to work with Walter, who will be an active participant in the writing and production.

In addition to most of our returning cast, we also plan to bring in many fellow Trek stars and their familiar characters to join us.

As we complete the final fulfillment of all our rewards, we will be announcing a new crowdfunding drive for the next two episodes. Beyond that, however, we have an innovative new plan for funding subsequent episodes. Our goal is to produce 12 episodes a year, or roughly one per month! To accomplish this, we’ll use conventional episodic television production schedules, including shooting each episode in 7-8 days, editing and scoring the episode over the next month, then completing the VFX over the following 2-3 months. And this is now possible since we have the core Renegades team in place, and most of the difficult and time-consuming VFX work was accomplished for the pilot.

We hope you enjoyed Renegades and will continue to support our Series. We have multiple story arcs in the works which will extend over multiple episodes and even seasons!

The Adventure Continues!

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has been made an honorary member of the exclusive British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), the organisation has confirmed.

Rossi, who has won seven premier class motorcycle world championships, will be presented with his membership by BRDC president Derek Warwick ahead of MotoGP's British Grand Prix at Silverstone next weekend. Rossi becomes the first person to join the club purely for his achievements on two wheels.

"I am very honoured to have been invited to become an Honorary Member of the British Racing Drivers' Club," said Rossi. "I know it's very difficult to become a member of this exclusive club, there are very selective criteria. There is no rider in the BRDC, I will be the first and for this I am even more honoured."

The BRDC's vice-president John Surtees is famously the only man to win world championships on two wheels and four. Surtees says Rossi's honorary role was in recognition of his importance to the Silverstone circuit.

"Valentino is without any doubt one of the greatest motorcycle riders ever in a sport that has played an extremely important part in Silverstone's history. He has a huge number of British fans and will be putting on a fantastic show for the Silverstone crowd on 30 August."

Mad Mike Formula Drift Round5 Seattle

Published on Aug 19, 2015
Mad Mike Whiddett Throws It Down In Seattle

Mad Mike proves he has the skills, the team & the machine to be a threat in the Formula Drift.

The ‘Throwdown’ round of the Formula Drift championship is not only an important one for drivers contesting the entire seven-round Pro series, but also one of the most exciting, with a long, high-speed banked section running into a tight and technical series of left and right-hand turns. It requires total commitment and precision, and headed into the event Whiddett was excited at the prospect of competing at Evergreen Speedway.

"Seattle is one of my favourite tracks of the series, but like the other rounds, the biggest challenge will be learning the car quickly and finding a comfortable setup so we can be as competitive as possible. The other challenge, of course, is nature. If the rain sets in, we’ll have to do our best to adapt to the conditions."

If the weather forecast promised anything for the event, it was to expect the unexpected. Whiddett looked strong in the dry practice, but by the time qualifying rolled around on Friday afternoon, the sky had clouded over and the rain was coming down.

With 1,200 horsepower to tame, a clean pass was never going to easy, but Whiddett kept his composure and put some points on the board with only a slight wheel-off-course error to speak of. The second run, however, didn’t go to plan at all. Faced with a half-dried track, competitors struggled to maintain grip, and when Whiddett tried to hold close proximity to the wall, the bank bit back – hard. The impact tore the tyre off RADBUL’s left-rear wheel, resulting in an incomplete run and leaving Whiddett to rely on his first pass to secure him a spot in the next day’s battles.

Starting from 27th put the pressure on, but the team faced an even bigger challenge on Saturday afternoon when RADBUL’s Winters Performance Quick Change differential blew. An unexpected setback, all hands on the job ensured that a replacement was fitted – if only with a few moments to spare. With no time or opportunity to test the setup, Whiddett put all his trust in the fix and lined up against Hawaiian-born Forrest Wang in the Top 32.

The Nissan Silvia driver led first, but from the moment Whiddett initiated on the bank RADBUL looked unbalanced, and diving in tight resulted in a spin and a zero score. With an advantage to Wang, there was only one thing for the Kiwi driver to do on his lead lap: charge hard. And that he did, the MX-5 pulling a huge gap on the Silvia. Wang was hit with a zero for an ‘inactive chase’ and suddenly it was all tied up. The judges called a One More Time re-run, but that too ended up being too close to call, and the pair lined up for third time. Confidence restored, Whiddett was fast and focussed, pushing through to the next round after Wang succumbed to the pressure and spun.

Whiddett’s Top 16 battle was one he’s been looking forward to for a long time, but taking down former Formula Drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. was never going to be an easy task. Again, RADBUL seemed twitchy as Gittin Jr.’s Ford Mustang RTR led on the first pass, but Whiddett appeared to overcome whatever handling issues the car had by simply piling on more speed. That was something even more obvious in his lead lap, and had Whiddett not slightly straightened up at the end of the judged section, the outcome might have been different than it was – a win to the American. When that result was announced though, it was obvious who had won the crowd’s respect.

The Formula Drift Pro championship now moves to Texas for the ‘Showdown’ round on August 21-22, ahead of October’s ‘Final Fight’ at Irwindale Speedway in California.

Gene Simmons Home Raided for Child Porn

Gene NOT a Suspect

Gene-Simmons-tmzGene Simmons' house was raided Thursday morning by cops looking for evidence of child porn, although we're told neither Gene nor anyone in his family is a suspect.

The LAPD's Internet Crime Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at 8 AM, and we're told cops seized computers and other evidence.

Law enforcement sources tell us, someone downloaded child porn either on one of their computers or using their Internet access. We're told neither Simmons nor anyone in his family are considered suspects or persons of interest. Gene was away on tour when the downloads occurred.

It's unclear who, if anyone is considered a suspect. We're told the family is fully cooperative.

V8 Supercars star hurt in freak pit lane accident

A V8 Supercars star is in hospital after a freak accident ruled him out of today’s final practice session at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Courtney was in pit lane when a downdraft from navy helicopter overhead sent advertising signage crashing into him.

It is not known if the accident will rule him out of competition for the rest of the weekend, however.

Shortly afterwards Courtney tweeted a picture of himself in hospital, stating; “Didn’t think this was going to happen today … Doc has me flying.”

Details of the 2010 champion's condition are also unknown but a statement from V8 Supercars confirmed the Royal Australian Navy helicopter had caused the accident.

“ James was unfortunately struck by a piece of flying debris dislodged by the downdraft of a military helicopter display,” the statement read.

“He was attended to by medical staff at the scene and taken to the circuit medical centre for examination. He has since been transported to Westmead Hospital for further assessment.

“The Royal Australian Navy and V8 Supercars have commenced a full investigation into the incident.”

Footage of the accident shows Courtney attempting to shield himself as several pieces of signage fly around pit lane, however, he was unable to prevent one piece of debris striking him in the chest.

Other team members in the area also appear to be struck by the flying material as the attempt to move out of the way.
