Tesla Model S price reductions in Australia

Innovative electric car company has announced price reductions across the range, making the highly attractive cars just that little more attainable.

However, the new price list is instructive for another reason as well.

Each State pays a different price for the same vehicle, due to the differences in registration fees, compulsory third party charges, and stamp duty. As a Federal impost, Luxury Car Tax is consistent from State to State.

Tesla quotes the following cash prices for its Model S 70:

It's $108,554 in the ACT (including LCT $7417 and registration of $1037). Another revealing note advises that “after incentives and petrol savings” this price is equivalent to $94,554. However, there are no “incentives”; the savings are totally as a result of fuel savings calculated over three years and an average distance travelled of 15,000km per year, and this is consistent across every State and Territory.

The next best place to buy a Tesla Model S 70 is in Queensland where the cash price is $110,308, with LCT of $7417, registration $304, CTP $335 and stamp duty of $2152.

Cross the border into the Northern Territory and you’ll pay $111,288 (including LCT, $543 for registration and stamp duty of $3228).

Drive a few thousand kilometres south into SA and the price rises to $112,421 (LCT, registration of $660 and stamp duty of $4244).

Across the Strait in Tasmania, the same car will set you back $112,865 (with LCT, registration of $1044 and stamp duty of $4304).

In NSW the cost is $113,152 (LCT, $594 for registration, $561 for CTP and $4480 for stamp duty).

In Victoria the price is marginally higher at $113,432 (with imposts including the LCT, $320 for registration and $5595 for stamp duty).

The winner for most gouging is WA. Sandgropers will pay $115,178 for their new Tesla Model S 70 (including the usual $7417 LCT, $672 for registration and $4304 for stamp duty).

So living in WA incurs a penalty in the purchase price of more than $6600 over buying the same vehicle in the ACT.

Tesla’s other models, the Model S 85 and Model S P85D cost $114,200 and $148,000 respectively, plus all the taxes, charges, duties and whatever else our various governments can think of to separate you from your money.

Audi R8 program manager speaks on working alongside Lamborghini

Cross pollination between Audi and sister company Lamborghini has resulted in a better R8 and Huracan alike, according to technical program manager for the R8, Alwyn Watkins.In a candid conversation with CarAdvice, Watkins spoke in glowing terms of working across platforms with Lamborghini engineers.“We work very closely and there’s no doubt the end result is better for it,” he said.“Sometimes I have to pinch myself to take in the fact that a guy from Canada with a sales and dealer background is working on such important platforms with a company like Audi, but the experience of working closely with the Italians at Lamborghini has been incredible."

Watkins reckons expertise travels both ways with the development of a better end-product ultimately paying dividends for both companies.“You have to remember that the Italians at Lamborghini had, for so long, worked with so little budget, with almost nothing to invest to design and build their cars,” he said. “So for them, having Audi on board has been something they have loved. It’s given them the freedom to explore even better super sportscars with the flair only they have.”“The other factor that is so valuable is that such a restriction on budget has made them incredibly smart at doing a lot with not very much. Contrary to what outsiders might think, Lamborghini has created efficiencies with design and manufacturing that have translated into great success with Audi. We’ve learnt a hell of a lot from them and the way they approach design issues.”

It’s fair to say then, that the flow of information and expertise has gone both ways. It hasn’t all been about Audi taking over and wielding a big stick in Sant Agata.Like everyone CarAdvice spoke to who was associated with the R8 project, Watkins was adamant that maintaining a different character between the R8 and Huracan has been fundamental to the success of both.“The R8 is a very different car than the Huracan and it needs to be,” he said. “We know the buyer profile is completely different for starters, and those buyers need a completely different car depending on which one they choose. Ultimately its the small details that make them different, but you can feel those details when you’re behind the wheel either on the road or the track.

“It’s fair to say, in Europe certainly, that while R8 owners usually have another vehicle in the garage, often another Audi, R8 owners generally use their cars more often than Huracan owners,” he said. “That is why we have such a focus on daily usability and comfort. You can feel on poor road surfaces for example, the R8 suspension tune is a little more comfortable and forgiving than the Huracan.”The end message is clear. Two factors stand out above all others for Audi when it concerns the R8. Firstly, it has to be usable and reliable as a daily driver. And secondly, while it needs to be different to the Huracan and stay that way, it’s the subtle similarities than make both cars such sensational driving machines

A FURIOUS driver got a lot more than he bargained for when he chased a cyclist during a shocking case of road rage in the UK.

The footage uploaded to YouTube by the cyclist, who goes by the username Uphillfreewheeler, shows the driver passing close to the cyclist.

The cyclist then follows the car for several blocks to tell him to be more careful.

“Too close mate, you passed me way too close,” the cyclist said.

However, the driver didn’t appreciate the warning, going on a foul-mouthed tirade about how much room the cyclist was taking up.

“Mate, how f***ing big is that bicycle,” he says. “ … If you’d have had the decency to go over one side instead of taking the whole f***ing road … are you a f***ing tank?

“Are you a car? No. You’re a f***ing little bicycle but you seem to want to be in the middle of the road.”

The argument continues, escalating when the cyclist tells the driver he’s been caught on camera and will be posting the video onto YouTube as well as reporting the man to police.

This infuriates the driver who threatens the cyclist, getting out of his car and placing his hand over the camera.

The argument continues and as the cyclist laughs the driver starts running after him on foot.

He kicks the bike’s back tyre but loses balance and falls onto the street.

The driver can be seen sitting up after the fall, and it’s not known if he was injured.

Doc,pretty sure you said you've reserved a download of it,if you have changed your mind,this article can be of help to you.It explains your options,and if you want out,how to go about it.I've decided to stay with Windows 8.1,and it explained which download to uninstall to remove the icon in the Task bar,so no more f'king annoying pop ups

It's covered in barnacles and other crustaceans,which seems strange.for only being in the water for a bit over twelve months,then again, I'm no marine biologist,but there is a number they have found,that they claim will help them identify it

I'm still on windows 7. I have used windows 8 and it was complete garbage. Seeing as windows 10 is free for the first year for windows 7 and windows 8 users, ill probably take it. For $0, how bad could it really be?
