2016 Audi RS 3: Forget Hot Hatches, This Is Hyper Hatch - XCAR

Presenting your new daily driving weapon. It’s faster to 62 mph than a Porsche 911, a Lotus Evora, and the entry-level Jaguar F-Type. It costs less than any of those three and can fit plenty of your stuff.

What’s more, it’s almost as quick and powerful as the original Audi R8 V8. This isn’t the Golf R or any other hot hatch. Perhaps it’s more accurate to describe the new Audi RS3 as the world’s first hyper hatch.

The specs speak for themselves: 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. Power comes from Audi’s awesome turbocharged 2.5-liter five banger with 362 hp and 343 lb-ft.Just to compare, that first R8 V8 produced 415 hp.

Our friends at XCAR just took the new RS 3 Sportback for a spin and, well, it pretty much makes all other hot hatches feel slow.

Almost as quick (yes, in a straight line - we don't know about track yet) but almost as powerful as an R8 4.2? it's 80 HP down by my count...

Avengers’ TV Show Star Patrick Macnee Dies at 93

Patrick Macnee, famous for his role on “The Avengers” British TV series, died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was 93.

Macnee, who played John Steed in the spy-fi show, died with his family at his bedside.

“Wherever he went, he left behind a trove of memories,” a statement on the actor’s website read. “Patrick Macnee was a popular figure in the television industry. He was at home wherever in the world he found himself. He had a knack for making friends, and keeping them.”

“The Avengers” initially focused on Dr. David Keel (Ian Hendry) and his assistant (Macnee), but Macnee’s famously bowler hat wearing, umbrella-wielding intelligence officer (he never used a gun) became the protagonist when Hendry exited the series. Macnee played the part alongside a succession of strong, female partners, including Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg and Joanna Lumley. The show ran from 1961 and 1969 and was reprised in the 1970s.

The series was unsuccessfully adapted for the bigscreen in 1998 in a film that starred Ralph Fiennes as John Steed and Uma Thurman as his female partner and Sean Connery as the villain they faced.

The original “Avengers” TV series is still broadcast all over the world.

Macnee also made guest appearances on “Columbo,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “The Love Boat” and “Frasier.”

On the film side, he appeared in Laurence Olivier’s “Hamlet,” the 1951 version of “A Christmas Carol,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” and the 1985 James Bond film “A View to a Kill.”

Macnee is survived by a son and a daughter as well as a grandson.

Donations may be made to the Actors Fund.

It's all marketing speak, trying to appeal to an audience that may already be familiar with Audi vehicles and enticing them to 'upgrade' from a vehicle that's a long way into its projected lifespan.

So Rossi sorted his qualy issues. Was quickest in FP1 and FP3.

With 30 sec to go in Q2 he was sitting in 8th.

Crossed the line to take pole and set a new pole record. Beat Stoners pole record by 1.01sec.

This time Jlo will start from the 3rd row.

Rossi lead for most of the way closely followered by MM.. he took the lead with about 8 laps to go.
Rossi took it back with 3 to go..
coming into the last chicain before the flag MM tried put it up the
inside of Rossi who was always ahead of him leading into that turn,, MM comes in to hot.. and puts it into the side of Rossi
and end up punting him off track but he managed to hold it through the gravel and take the win..

Great race with 2 riders at the top of their game, almost ruined by an idiotic move by Marquez at the last corner.
Very lucky they both didn't crash. Marquez has an unbelievable talent but this win it or bin it attitude that he has is getting old pretty fast.
There wasn't a gap there, so accept you got beat by a better man on the day instead of trying an idiotic move where you both could easily end up in the gravel.

JLo 6secs behind in for a lonley 3rd.

Doc

just watched the replay from many different angles..
my opinion.
1) Rossi was ahead of Marc and got hit from behind.
2) Rossi had the correct racing line and would have made the turn
3) Marc was coming in too hot and did not have the angle to make the turn.
4) Marc cut the corner even after contact with Rossi, if there was no contact he would have blown the corner even worse.

fair enough the last corner you have to try,, but Marc has done this move many times and ended up hitting another rider..

thanks for the blow by blow tale Doc. i knew the race was on but haven't been able to get onto the tele - my brothers doing his usual hogging of the television set, watching Babylon 5 seasons, it's same old same old with him - he's hogged the television watching the show now for the last 4 weeks just about every night, except for when the Witcher 3 and Batman were released. rolleyes.gif

MM is having abit of a sook. Says he feels he won the race coz Rossi cut the corner. Well he had no choice to stand the bike up and run straight coz you put it into the side of him. Where else was he meant to go Coming into a chicane

Dai.

That has been the attitude and mentality of Marquez lately, i personally believe they should impose penalties on him if he keeps this "Im going to win or take a few out" racing style he's adapted this year.Last year was impressive with how he had been racing but this year is becoming a joke with the dangerous racing and constant binning because people are doing better!.

Doc
Post #9261

yep he is becoming more and more dangerous with his torpeedo style passing..

Doc
Post #9262

as it happend.

Rossi's opinion
QUOTE
My idea is that I was completely in front in the last chicane. I braked hard, stayed in the centre and was already into the first [apex] on the right when he come on to me. But I just see his tyre, so he touched me just behind the elbow. That means [the contact] was at the maximum the middle of my bike. I braked and I was on line to make the chicane

Marquez opinion
QUOTE
I did a mistake when three laps remained and he opened a gap, but on the last lap I recovered it and during all the race I had studied perfectly the last chicane, to put the bike in the correct place, to not give the space to him,ť Marquez said.
But okay, I didn't expect that he will cut [the corner]! In the end, what I feel is that we won the race but now for it doesn't matter.

if it was the "correct" place to put your bike you wouldnt of touched him..

Race Direction Opinion:
QUOTE
We've obviously reviewed the incident from all the camera angles we have. The decision is racing incident. No advantage was gained, Webb told Crash.net. The basis of that decision is primarily the helicopter shot that shows at every stage Valentino was ahead. So Valentino had the right to the line.

So Valentino was ahead. He was not passed. As they reached the apex of the right-hand turn Marc touched Valentino, which made [Valentino] go wide. So that's a racing incident. It's unavoidable.

The two balancing things are that it was a hard pass with contact and you are not allowed to push another rider off the line. But the end result was that they entered and exited that series of corners in the same position. No advantage gained. End of story.

which is how MM rides.. pushing other riders off their line to make his way through..
Marquez : "I was on the inside!" ... SO WHAT? That's the stupidest defense I've ever heard

Doc
Post #9263

like in Argentina.. trying to make the impossible pass again ends in him crashing out..

Dai.

I agree, how is "I was on the inside" a defence when he hit another rider trying to pass. Both passes are reckless and honestly a pass wasn't there.

Also,he didn't expect Rossi to cut the corner?.What else was he supposed to f'king do?

Doc
Post #9265

He had no where else to go. As you see in the front shot MM was totally out of shape and he ran off almost onto the Astro turf. How was Rossi meant to get through there.

Rossi did well you can see he picked up the front wheel just as he was about to enter the gravel so not to dig in and just played on the throttle to keep it going. As he said he didn't know how deep it was.

Yer I'm a big Rossi fan and also think MM is a huge talent but he is just becoming very reckless lately going into corners way to hot and almost rear ending the guy in front. Almost took out Jlo last round under brakes

Doc
Post #9266

The thing that really annoys me about the moves Marquez makes is that when Simoncelli was riding he got absolutely crucified for doing aggressive moves. Marquez does far worse and consistently/repetitively and most of the commentators etc just laugh like its ok for him.

Dai.

Maybe because he won the world championship last year and the commentators give him a pass to the stupid amateur shit he does.

Doc
Post #9268

just listening to the interviews..
MM: "i did a good job, i gained the position and i was inside., when Valentino saw that he create the touch, i didnt expect
him to cut the corner"

oh please.. not only is he a torpeedo rider he's also in denial..

Dai.

Reminds me of Casey Stoner who cried about everything!.

Doc
Post #9270

Never thought MM was a moaner. most times when he pulled shit like this he won. Now he's struggling this year sitting 5th in the WC he's getting desperate to win and come off second best so now he complains.

Long way to go but it's prob going to come down to Rossi and Jlo for the title. Just hope MM doesn't ruin it by taking out either rider.

Dai.

I wouldn't hold my breath, lately the little shit can't pass cleanly so i wouldn't be surprised if he starts making people crash trying desperately to gain points.

i know you've seen enough superbike coverage to trust in your opinion Doc. i could see that Maquez was at best level with Rossi going into the corner where they touched. he was also out of shape, sliding the bike in his desperation to try and make the move on Rossi. end of the day (thankfully) it didn't deny the better rider the win.

they both rode brilliantly.. Rossi was so quick the entire race as was MM.. he couldnt shake him off..
MM only passed him once but couldnt pull away.. their lap times were so close to each other..
