Karmichael Hunt charged with supplying cocaine, Titans players caught in sting

Reds Super Rugby player Karmichael Hunt has been charged with four counts of supplying cocaine.

Hunt met with detectives on Thursday night and was charged with four counts of supplying the drug as part of a probe by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission.

The ARU and Queensland Rugby Union have released the following statement.

“The Australian Rugby Union and Queensland Rugby Union are aware of reports regarding Karmichael Hunt.

“The ARU’s Integrity team and the Queensland Rugby Union are making enquiries into the reports.”

The report says Hunt is scheduled to appear at Southport magistrates court on March 5.

Hunt was identified as one of four people “arranging the supply of cocaine during an ongoing drug trafficking investigation,” according to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

“The CCC will allege that during an investigation focused on a cocaine trafficking syndicate operating in South East Queensland, these four individuals were identified contacting the syndicate and arranging for the supply of cocaine,” it said.

The CCC would further allege “the three men and one woman arranged for the supply of cocaine for personal use or to on-supply cocaine to friends and colleagues between June and December 2014”.

The Guardian has linked the arrest to former NRL and Queensland Origin player Jason Smith, who was charged with trafficking cocaine earlier this year. The investigation has been ongoing for over seven months.

Smith and his alleged accomplice have been charged with trafficking 280 grams of cocaine. There have been no figures released about Hunt’s charges.

Smith’s charges related to a period between June 2014 and December 2014. There’s no updated on the timeframe relating to Hunt’s charges.

Hunt is one of the most successful code hoppers in Australia’s sporting history.

Hunt switched to rugby union for the second time in his career this year to play with the Queensland Reds after signing a contract in August, and was made vice captain of the side in January. If he has been arrested, it surely throws his prospects of having any further contribution this season in serious doubt.

He played AFL for the last four seasons with the Gold Coast Suns, having moved from rugby league before that. He also played a short stint with French club Biarritz in 2009/10.

Meanwhile, according to News Corp reports, two of the three other people involved in the drug sting that has seen Reds star Karmichael Hunt arrested are players from NRL club Gold Coast Titans.

The two players are 24 and 27 years old, and have been issues with a notice to appear in court on the same day as Hunt, March 5.

The amounts of the drug they allegedly supplied, cocaine, is yet to be revealed. Hunt will face four counts of the charge. The 22-year-old Titans player is understood to be facing two counts of supplying dangerous drugs, while the 27-year-old Titans player is facing four counts of the same offence.

The Roar does not know the identity of the two Gold Coast Titans players.

Former rugby league players Jason Smith and Matt Seers are understood to be charged as part of the same sting by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission.

The CCC alleges that Hunt, the two Titans players and the unidentified woman “arranged for the supply of cocaine for personal use or to on-supply cocaine to friends and colleagues between June and December last year.”

Katayama, known as the “father of the Z,” who built the Z sportscar into a powerful global brand in the 1970s, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, his son said. He was 105.

TOKYO (AP) -- Yutaka Katayama, a former president of Nissan Motor Co.'s U.S. unit who built the Z sports car into a powerful global brand in the 1970s, has died. He was 105.

Known as the "father of the Z," Katayama won international respect for the Datsun Z as an affordable sports car at a time when Japan-made products were synonymous with slipshod quality.

Katayama, who retired from Nissan in 1977, died Thursday of heart failure at a Tokyo hospital, his son Mitsuo said.
Carlos Ghosn, who has led a turnaround at the Japanese automaker under an alliance with Renault SA of France, resurrected Katayama's legendary status at Nissan by bringing back the Z, which had been discontinued in 1996.

Inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in both the U.S. and Japan, Katayama is revered by Z fan clubs around the world, which nicknamed him "Mr. K."
"A car is a horse. I want to drive a thoroughbred that's in tune with my heartbeat, but not something that's too dressed up for someone like me," Katayama told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview about the Z's comeback.

In selling the Datsun brand in the U.S., Katayama stressed maintenance services, and courted dealers and employees alike. His vivacious personality, unusual for a Japanese person of his generation, helped.

He made one of the first color films of a Datsun, innovating visual storytelling for marketing, something taken for granted in the auto industry today.
"With a love of cars and a flare for promotion, he built the Datsun brand, Nissan's initial brand name in the U.S., from scratch," Yokohama-based Nissan said on its website last year.

Mitsuo Katayama mused that his father was happily zooming around in the Z in heaven, no longer worried about "gas, police or traffic tickets."
"His greatest achievement, I think, was the fact that he was able to give many American Datsun dealers their own success story," he said.

Katayama is survived by his wife, Masako, two sons and two daughters, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A family service is planned for Tuesday. A larger memorial will be announced later.

i've done the same thing in the rx7, losing traction going over a bridges 'bump'. i was going a lot quicker though.

Drug scandal: Gold Coast Titans Greg Bird, Dave Taylor and Kalifa Faifai Loa stood down

Rugby league has been rocked by revelations representative players Greg Bird and Dave Taylor have been stood down by the Titans after being linked to the drug scandal engulfing the club.

Bird and Taylor have been served with notices to appear in court surrounding the cocaine crisis which threatens to destroy the club. The pair join teammates Beau Falloon, Jamie Dowling and Kalifa Faifai Loa to be stood down by the club.

Reports suggest former St George Illawarra and Gold Coast winger Joe Vickery has also been served.

Titans players arrived back on the Gold Coast on Sunday following their 30-10 trial loss to the Cowboys.

article,saying if you use cocaine,you are earning too much money.On another note,looking at the synoptic map for the next few days,Ex Tropical Cyclone Marcia has started re-intensifying, and is heading back up the coast,linking up with a monsoonal trough,and will be almost back to where it hit QLD,by Thursday.....do it again,and get it right this time??
