If there were an alternative

to water to extinguish out of control fires that are rapidly growing, would you want it funded and by who? If the end result was far superior and much more efficient compared to many man hours fighting the fires, would you want it implemented asap?

Just thinking of all of these poor c**ts that are losing everything due to the fires etc...

The retardants are there Bob, I would have thought the insurance companies would be actively pushing it, water is pretty rooted in stopping the intense heat fires.

I have yet to complete my bushfire setup as I am surrounded by it and I only have town water and a 13,000 liter tank, so I would be reliant on the fire service. the last big fires here came within 1klm, fn nervous times, just a wind change would have had all of us rooted.

I am aware of this, but i'm curious as to why they haven't been made in bulk amounts to fight fires. We have the technology, so why not implement the shit??

Because the retardants would cause more damage to the forest/animals than the fire would wink.gif

Trees can grow back and animals can be re introduced, but good luck cleaning up acres of AB(E) powder.

After the massive fires back home in Coona they told the local that owned the farm house etc not to drink the water out of there tanks until there has been some decent rain fall and the tanks have been drained and filled etc due to the retardants they used

We should change the name of this thread to "how many times can I mention my R8" lol

Working in the Fire Industry you will rarely ever see a Sapphire Extinguisher, based mainly because they cost about 5 times any other type.

It would cost millions to fight say a bush fire with 3MTMNovecTM

What about in sufficient sized one to suit a chopper to fight the initial stages of a fire? Then anything outrageous after that should be man power and water...

Surely the people would prefer a more severe method to being with to try and prevent extreme coverage by fire. Even if it cost them a bit more in rates etc... Either that or buy another house...

For a small fire the size say 2 x 2 meters possibly, but usually by the time bush fires are detected they are usually hundreds of meters wide.. It's a great idea though if someone ever comes up with a cheaper alternative.

Thanks for the Sapphire Extinguisher tip, It was part of a missing link in a blade server room fire containment concept.

The retardants for bushfires can be very prohibitive for mass use from what I have read, but there are some that work as a surfectant that slows the evaporation rate, which in turn extends the effectiveness of the water.

Where I live I would be totally rooted if an extreme fire event happened, all I could do is take window covers off, cover with foil, fill the gutters with sand and wet it, set the sprinklers under the house, then at the last minute kick the gen set in, set both pumps to max spray and bail down to the beach and just hope to fk the firies can manage with better odds.

Rex has a leaking front shock, should have a new one in by next week.
Good thing I didn't put lowered springs in, they probably would of said that was to blame and wouldn't cover it on warranty mamoru.gif
