Yeah, I'm fairly skeptical of the coming chinese supremacy, for a number of reasons to long to be bothered going into here. In short, they have built their economy on unsustainable industries, and I see them pulling a USSR in about 15 years.
India is a much more realistic (unfortunately) global domination prospect in the long term.
Either wsy, I think the USA is still by far the most important economy, government, military and nation in the world, and that despite all the fashionable doom saying it's going nowhere in the long term.
Also, a reemergence of Japan at some point is inevitable.

Yup.
You can see this going to the trade shows over there and how China Dominates the export market.
I try not to worry about it though, hopefully by the time they take over I'll be dead or in a nursing home with alzheimer's drinking my own urine etc.

Yes, the part China has not factored into the whole equation is the population continuing to be hungry for growth and the sacrifices required.

I can only speak from 20 years ago, my observation of the lack of common sense and rubbish attention to detail was everywhere, they were happy to leave shit everywhere, it was always the attitude there will be someone lower than me to do it.

Agree on the India call, they are so diversified, but once again after recently dealing with Infosys and the indian IT guys, Mmmmm, yes they may have an IT degree, but they cannot think outside the box

dirty filthy countries both, can't see either of them surpassing any western country in terms of the overall well being of their citizens as a whole. much like Russia, in that they'll have a wealthy elite, and everybody else will be skinflint.

Well the essence of the argument goes that they have build their development around the notion that they will build it faster and cheaper than other places. Now that their middle class has grown so much, the wages are rising to the point at which other countries are abandoning Chin as their factory floor, and moving to places like Brazil, Vietnam, etc. where you can still pay a pittance. Their goes their only real competitive advantage.
India on the other hand, as annoying as they are, have built their development around IT, medicine, engineering...ie; SKILLS that will always be needed.

Like I said though, America isn't going anywhere, despite how fashionable it is to say otherwise.

did they have the proper testing equipment, or are they requiring her to present the vehicle at a testing station?

Draven
Post #430

she has to present it to a testing station...

alpharx7
Post #431

depending on how they do things now - it varies dependant on what state you're in, that may just require her to present the vehicle to an exhaust shop, get it tested, then take the result down to her local RTA / VicRoads office.

in a sense, it's lucky they didn't have the testing equipment there - they often will have an area set up with the equipment at large organised gatherings / shows. the potential is there for some big fines to be issued / breaching EPA. last I knew upwards of 10k.

pisses you of though, these types of fines, it's like, we can't get you for anything legitimate, so we'll get you for this, just because we're bastards and we can.

I got no aircon

I have, but I like to seek refuge down in my garages, problem I have is beer fridge is too close,so if you want to drive down, plenty to drink and I have an appointment, with a big fat, juicy rump steak and my BBQ,when it cools down a bit.

alpharx7
Post #440

i have air con, not that it's worth a pinch of salt, still it takes the edge off the heat a bit, which is good considering i've been effing around with my computer half the day.

had a blue screen of death earlier today whilst transfering files, stupid computer would freeze up 20 seconds after boot up thereafter, so i've had to do a fresh system install.

i can see the next week being frustrating, updating drivers, finding neccesary programs again, ie11, adobe, direct x11 etc etc.

I put hundreds and hundreds of songs on the ipod for driving, I find myself skipping tracks all the time when driving waiting for something I want to hear.

I have a "car" playlist in the '55. Given that I only have tracks on my ipod that I have ripped from CD, I cut down on the junk I think. Then again, I have hundreds of CDs, some of which I don't even remember buying!
The Audi uses SD cards. Frikken' SD CARDS.

So do you think it was the heat that caused all your dramas? With the system you have, can you monitor the temperature of the CPU?I felt the casing of mine, and thought stuff this, and headed downstairs, with the Boss's laptop (surprisingly I can actually get quite a good signal, through all that concrete and brick)

i did have a way of measuring the heat, will have to find the application again now. rolleyes.gif

doubtful that was the problem, i have 5 fans on the box, as well as a hp50 cooling radiator.

i've experienced the blue screen crash previously whilst transfering files between two external drives - it's why i like to transfer things over one folder at a time rather than just clicking a large folder that contains multiple shows.

give me another day or two and i'll have had everything finished.

just happened at a prick of a time. i don't normally use my c drive for other task's / storage, however given how full my other drives were, it was just easier to do it this way.
