I believe that would be because it was named after the R8 race car, with which both versions share technology. |

Traced out an electrical fault on the surf. Turns out there were no wires crushed but the old owner had used the illumination wire off the surf harness for the earth on the head deck = blown fuse every time you turn the parkers on. What a waste of a day. That should have been the most obvious fault ever? |

That should have been the most obvious fault ever? Explain how? A 4wd that gets used for 4wding, first point of call was exterior before interior and the headunit worked as it was earthed through the frame. If you could see the rest of the handy work, example of the clip on jointers for the towbar, it was a hit and miss experience. |

I've had a surf, and I would not say it is the simplest electrical system, as they have been got at over the years by all sorts of electrical gurus, But good tip with any Toyota, undo ever earth (white with a black trace) clean spotless under it, retorque the bolts, spray with WD40, do it for all, also with tailgate issues, 95% of the time it is a broken wire at the flex point, hope this helps in future, Also ECU and auto trans issues, mostly the capacitors. |

That's a super, super easy fix, plenty well known about for just about anybody that has worked on audio in a car before. While the rest of the electrical system in Surfs aren't the best, the audio side of things couldn't be simpler. |
