I also love how they called it the R8....and then released a v10 version too and didn't call it the R10, removing any meaning the letters R and 8 have.

I believe that would be because it was named after the R8 race car, with which both versions share technology.

One of the ball joints doesn't quite seem to be right (the shank doesn't seem to fit all the way into the control arm), but for now everything is just fitted so the car will roll. Had to buy some cheap shitty Chinese wheel nuts as my factory steelies no longer clear the brakes (ST184 calipers, ZZE123 rotors).

Traced out an electrical fault on the surf. Turns out there were no wires crushed but the old owner had used the illumination wire off the surf harness for the earth on the head deck = blown fuse every time you turn the parkers on. What a waste of a day.

That should have been the most obvious fault ever?

Explain how?
A 4wd that gets used for 4wding, first point of call was exterior before interior and the headunit worked as it was earthed through the frame. If you could see the rest of the handy work, example of the clip on jointers for the towbar, it was a hit and miss experience.

I've had a surf, and I would not say it is the simplest electrical system, as they have been got at over the years by all sorts of electrical gurus, But good tip with any Toyota, undo ever earth (white with a black trace) clean spotless under it, retorque the bolts, spray with WD40, do it for all, also with tailgate issues, 95% of the time it is a broken wire at the flex point, hope this helps in future, Also ECU and auto trans issues, mostly the capacitors.

That's a super, super easy fix, plenty well known about for just about anybody that has worked on audio in a car before.
While the rest of the electrical system in Surfs aren't the best, the audio side of things couldn't be simpler.

I guess he was working on the assumption no one would be such a fn tard to use the illumination circuit when setting up the audio, like you say, it is one fn plug

Well, not really me doing it, but I got my stereo installed the other day tongue.gif

Was going to do it myself, but happened to go into Gold Coast Car Sound and they could do it all that day.. well makes it easy for me!

Head unit + aerpro fitting kit - looks really nice!

The amps. Due to the size of them, both back seats have to be dropped together. Not that big of a deal though smile.gif

As you can see, the sub had to be placed facing down. The box was just a little too big to fit standing up! In the future I will probably be making a box that will fit in there a little nicer and be a little more space efficient.

Theres a bit of room between the sub and the amps, and as you can see the amp is only held in by those brackets so its nice and easy to remove!
