Do A5 dials have "R8" written on them and indicate up to 350 KMPH?

The bucket seats are from the R32, the standard seats are from a TT.

Either way, is there a point to this? I'm the one who brought up the fact that it's full of parts bin pieces in the first place-well aware of the fact.

Ok very valid points, you only have to start snooping under the skin of most major auto manufacturers to see the SENSIBLE parts sharing, to me the visual cues and tactile parts that differentiate the models and feels are where it matters between models.
I must admit, I am the first one to bin the standard wheel in any of the cars I have owned and sourced the better leather version of the premium model range, just a personal preference, so totally understand the wheel upgrade on the R8, rather tidy and looks like the way it should be

And that's just the start of it. See, un-optioned the R8 interior is actually appalling. That's the main thing that kept me out of them for so long-it's very difficult to find one with the extended leather package (which is absolutely vital to stop it looking like an i45 inside) and the carbon package. I eventually found the one I wanted with the leather and all the other good option...except the carbon, so I bought and retrofitted that.
Then the next step was to buy nicer bits to spruce it up. The good thing about the parts-sharing is that there are really nice alternative bits available...so I fitted the door handles from the TTRS, and the window/mirror controls from the very limited edition R8GT Spider, for example. I have also replaced the hand brake, storage bins and other such things. Good little hobby, and really spruces things up.

Shit, I dropped 33k on a car and it has perforation on it's leather steering wheel, that being said the leather wheel on the VW Golf I rented a week prior felt a bit nicer (but with no perforation omg), but maybe that was just because the car had 20,000 on the clock and has worn in a little bit.

I can get carbon bits for my interior to make it look like your R8 for a few hundred bucks instant supercar

First. Yes, the EU ones do. AU ones don't. Much of a muchness really. From memory, the R8 (V8) one is a sticker. It wasn't until the V10 model came out they replaced the R8 logo with a light up V10 logo.

The Audi R8, particularly from the first gen one, were made from the parts bins of a lot of their cars.

As for the door window gauges. You'll find they're from a Mk6 GTI Golf. They later made it to the R8 GT because after a while the black finish would get worn off. I know, I've got them in my car as well. All the switches got replaced with the chrome tipped ones.



Sorry, Audi is just VW expensive arm. Infiniti to Nissan and Lexus to Toyota. Same same really.

Well aware of all this-you just sound as though you are expecting me to be shocked.
I agree entirely with the Lexus/Audi-Toyota/VW analogy-doesn't mean that the R8 isn't in a category above the rest of the Audi Range though-in the same way as the LFA is in a category above the rest of Lexus. NOTE: I am not comparing the R8 to the LFA-simply their positioning relative to the rest of their respective cars.

TRIVIA:
When I had the mirrors off the car, I found that all the wiring and motors are also stamped "VW".
At the end of the day, when you spec the interior of an R8 correctly it is absolutely gorgeous-one of the nicest I've ever seen. You just have to make sure you DO do that, or it's very ordinary indeed.

An aside;
you do realise that there isn't a "first gen" R8 as of now right? We are still in the only generation. The new one is slated (speculated) to come out in 2015. The only things that have changed along the way are the gearbox, lights and badge designs (2013) as well as a few little trim niceties, such as the ones I've mentioned.

Facelifts are the pinnacle of the VW / Audi GmbH. Line up they only do a new platform for most of their cars every 5 years at least. Everything in between is just a facelift.

Mk5 and Mk6 Golf. Same platform, different molds for lights and some interior bits. Underneath? Still the same.

Mk7 is newest platform for the entire VW / Audi / Skoda / SEAT range.

Biggest update in 13 years for around ~200 different car makes.

And they will probably use it for another 20 years.

Believe me-I'm super familiar with the German style of "upgrading". I would call (coming from my more Merc-y background) changes of that nature a mid-cycle facelift, not a "second-generation". ie; the R171 SLK was born in like 2004, had a faceift in 2008, then the third gen (R172) came out in 2012.

This is what I don't get. Some idiots puts some wheels that don't fit properly on anything from a Civic to a S13 and you guys jizz all over it, somebody who has a nice as fcuk car upgrades it with parts that suit it (and IMO look awesome) to suit his own tastes and you all have a cry. If you were in his shoes you would all do EXACTLY the same thing.

If I had to do mods to a 200k car to 'upgrade' it I would feel ripped off. Atleast mods to Civic or S13 are usually expected to be needed.

While hardly high end I know my Nissan is basically like somebody took a Sentra, base model pulsar, GTiR pulsar, and from memory a p10 Primera, threw them in a blender and whacked a new body over the top. Pain in the ass trying to order parts.

As pointed out. Diablo uses 300ZX headlights. That does not make Nissan 300ZX's Lamborghini's.

Whilst they might make bespoke cars. They only making them for propping up their economy of fish wives and drunk ship captains. That, or escaping flawed designs which cause body work to catch fire.

I'm driving a courtesy car Corolla while my car goes in for service and the steering wheel is plastic. It has some textured mouldings at 9 and 3 and textured all the way around, but it definitely feels like a total piece of crap and I am glad that while they cheaped out on the 86 interior they didn't cheap out to base Corolla spec. Eventually with use it wears down to a glossy black sheen I can assume based on the basic cars I drove when I was 17-18. Oh and Domino's cars lolol

Admittedly the steering wheel on my car is deplorable. Absolutely deplorable.

Its plastic as well and soon as your hands even think about sweating its so slippery you wouldn't believe it. I actually almost crashed in a carpark because of it lol

Yeah, while the 86 interior is one of the few that actually manages to make the stock VW ones look good, it is admittedly not down to Corolla spec. Been driving a few rental ones recently... Oh my.
